  1. My understanding is as of today you will see/access only 2.2TB.
  2. More than enought for sure, many thanks to share that. They are charging me shipping, making $10 less then NewEgg for me. So I will hang tight and wait on a NewEgg promo, etc... dont like buying from someone I dont know to save $10 on a price item if you know what i mean.
  3. Johnm, you now offically own a ICYDOCK, just kidding!!! Like I said in the deal post I took one for the team (notice I didnt flag you out posting this topic ). I like the ICYDOCK, it will not go to waste. I need to look at my 4224 drive cages make sure they are the same (ssd holes in them) From the picture it looks like those screws come out past the cage (bottom) when you slide the cage back in is it scraping? and or elevated due to this? Thanks Rajahal, that is exactly what I wanted to do and pictured in my mind, but stupidly did not even look at the cages... thats what happens when unRAID is not your full time job Most important is finding the right screws (hopefully someone will so and get us the size/depth and easy to find, like ACE Hardware.com, etc...) the ssd needs to be secure and straight or it well break the SATA port on the backplane.

    Norco 4224 Thread

No guessing required go a few pages back I posted the specs and links Thank you! With that info and all the posts of what members posted fits in a norco 4224 you can make the right decision for you. My config with just unraid running I set my PWM fans to Performance in the bios(I have one notch up i can go "Full") With ESXi running (virtulized unRAID) other vm's, and i unleash a VM with Handbrake (v8 procs) the stock fin/fan on my xeon is not enough (plus to LSI controllers) I need to beef up the proc fin/fan combo and change my bios setting to FULL on the PWM fans. 17min to re-encode a DVD The IPMI is shooting me emails that the proc temp is "HIGH" every 2 mins, I ran down pulled out the chassis from the rack while it was running, put my hand near the proc fan, not good!!! We could barbecue here.. Can anyone recommend a xeon fin/fan combo that is not to tall in this case? I could really use some advice on this one.

  9. I need to replace all the fans, they're to LOUD!!!! Check out the 4224 thread and the 4224 rear fan thread
  10. $ isnt that always the case. I do agree with you on the revisions. I just slapped up what I though, dont know what the manf. is labeling them but it would be nice to know. Many DARK secrets with them. 1) Like we will add a bounch of metal sh^t in a small box with no parts list and see how many people we can drive up the Fin wall. 2) We tell eveyone at launch it will come with a 120 Fan plate, once a few thousand people order and drop a dime we did not, we will blame the part supplier and offer to send one out later, few more thousand orders later, multipule revision what still no 120mm fan plate in them, hum.... cant blame the parts supplier. We'll just sell them for $22 buck fu&k it. Thats how I read in between the lines
  11. At SuperBiiz $225.55 / $20 off w/code: LION1820 http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=CTFDDAC28G&src=eb&e=dD05NzcmbT1tZXJlbmJ1cmclNDBwcml2YXRlLW5ldHdvcmsuY29tJmw9MSZuPXN1cGVyYmlpel9jdXN0b21lcl8xJmQ9MjAxMS0wNS0xMysxNSUzQTIzJTNBMjQmdT1odHRwJTNBJTJGJTJGd3d3LnN1cGVyYmlpei5jb20lMkZkZXRhaWwucGhwJTNGbmFtZSUzRENURkREQUMyOEc= Anyone have experience with these? Is it really SATA3 6Gb/s interface?
  12. I personal though once you hot plug a drive at LEAST let it fully spin up before removing. I try not to hotplug add/remove unless absolutely necessary, perfer to shutdown first. I know what most will say, but I rather shutdown add 1-2 drives I just bought, bring it back up and start the array and then preclear those 1-2 new drives and add them to the array once done. Just my personal preference and nothing mission critical (not like you dont know if someone is watching something in your home, right ).
  13. Lets hope not I got (6) 160GB & (2) 320GB drives that are still working nice with MANY hours on them (used in desktop hardware with server OS for enterprise app products). Also have (1) 2TB 7200k & (3) 2TB greenies 4 preclears each, on everyday and just testing a large unRAID build on them for now, god bless they seem fine as well.
  14. I have seen issues with longer cables, some controllers are built for longer runs (mostly add on controllers) so thats why I feel shorter is better, as well as improper bends (most issues i have seen are do to this, detecting a 3.0 drive as 1.5, a 6.0 drive as 3.0, etc.). The Norco 4224 is at rev 3 at least. v1 usb up front. v2 no usb up front, front panel wiring ULTRA thin ribbon cables with large connectors at the end v2 no usb up front, front panel wiring is ultra thin but stops at the entrence of the chassis (mid plate area) and converts to regular wires with regular connector ends. Lots of pics on this chassis on the 4224 thread http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5912.0 Fan changes in some of these above as well.
  15. I am a firm believer to each his own. But FYI Xeon's (and ECC memory) are over kill unless your looking to run a VMware product and virtulize unRAID, which may not even work if the gear is to old. So you will be pay a higher electric bill for something thats just not needed.

Update my post with additional post mortem details and pictures on page 11
  17. Starting this post so others can share there 2.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive to 3.5" Converters and how/where they use it. I was think of trying a SSD drive as a unRAID Cache Drive, my chassis is a Norco 4224. There was SSD post not to long ago and in there I asked a question which a member brought me to the ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-1B and MB882SP-1S-2B 2.5" to 3.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive Converters. Nice video on NewEgg. I took a chance and bought the MB882SP-1S-2B because of the extra vent slots. The converter fits like a glove in the Norco 4224 Drive cage and the SATA connection seats well in the backplane. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994083 Now I just need a SSD drive Really want one of these "OCZ Agility 3", to keep moving with the 6Gbps controllers and spinner drives I am using. http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/ocz-unveils-agility-3-and-solid-3-ssds-for-thrifty-speedsters/
  18. I agree, I always try to go as short as possible but at least he got them nice and tidy
  19. From Newegg? I purchase my last 2 from NewEgg and they came in this packaing above. My statement "hoping this is what will be the normal shipping method going forward for ALL" is hoping all the merchants we buy from NewEgg/Amzon/Buy.com etc... package SATA drives this way. I you are referring to HP SAS drive, I dont buy them from NewEgg, but those would ship packaged the way HP packages them already. Hope this makes it clearer
  20. Be aware those rails (longest they have) do not allow the server to come completely out of a rack, you have to realease the plastic tabs on the side as if you were wanting to completely remove it out of a rack, carefully pull out about 3 inches to get the cover off, work with motherboard slots, basically anything in the rear of the chassis, with all the weight at the front it is a bit dangerious. Just an FYI, otherwise its a good deal. the 4224 post has alot of info from many members. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5912.0
  21. Yep, hoping this is what will be the normal shipping method going forward for ALL. I get HP SAS drives like this for years.
  22. LSI SAS9201-16i tested positive with unRAID 5.0Beta6a
  23. I purchased 2 on this deal, both precleared fine (3 cycles) and their packaging improved from the last 2 I bought before this deal. Large box with two smaller boxes inside one for each drive in the black suspension plastic, picture below is with one of the HD boxes open. Wondering if other are receiving this type of packaging. I perfer this over the bubble wrapped cardboard I recieved in one small box before. Those shippers always throw, kick, etc boxes around.
