Sorry to vent... It just seemed to be an appropriate time to post my gripes too in the context of the posts before mine.

Yes I suppose you summed it up very nicely. You all might be missing my point though. I'm really not trying to flame or start an argument here. Now that the unRAID core product is functionally stable I wish Limetech would polish it up a bit. That's really all I'm asking for. For example, Add Speeding Ant's theme into Baseline (because it's awesome). The roadmap at http://download.lime-technology.com/develop/infusions/aw_todo/project.php?id=1&view=roadmap hasn't been updated since Beta4 (a year ago). I just saw someone posted speeding_ant's SimpleFeatures iTunes Server on the 16th. Convenient. So that's awesome. We can check that one off. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Plugins I'm not saying unRaid doesn't do it's job. In fact, it does what it was designed to do very well. Unfortunately, unlike some of you, I have had MANY problems with unRAID. Most of them revolving around Networking issues as well as intermittent boot issues (Boots into single user mode with no networking, this one is complicated) which often takes days to fix. This happens when something gets added or a new release comes out and I attempt to upgrade. This is where most of that time I was talking about goes and it was no exaggeration. Time Machine (before b14) was also sketchy. Look, I understand it's Beta software, but I had all these problems on 4.7 too, and especially the networking ones. I also understand that is part of having this hardware independent which is huge plus. But all these issues were not what I was getting at at all. I was getting at the built-in video streaming (in a web browser) which is next to impossible and just "polish" overall . Plex is out there but it doesn't stream to a browser (AFIAK). A lot of what's out there as packages for unRAID were written by someone else who open-sourced it which is also fine. But if just about everyone adds it on, couldn't limetech package that up in put it into Baseline? I know he works his ass off and he does have a great product. Maybe he needs more help. I'm just sayin'

The real issue with no ETA is that there hasn't been a release or even a consistent status update from LimeTech SINCE NOVEMBER (4 months)! To me (a developer), a BETA that hasn't gotten touched at all in 4 months is dead... Vaporware. If it was a stable release, you could easily go a year with no update, fine, but it's not stable it's BETA... That's the kind of attention I'd expect some random open source project to get, not a product I paid for. I'm now looking at more competitive products like Synology or qnap. I really liked unRaid for it's relative support for white-boxes and it's openness for configuration and such but lack of support and latest industry features is a heavy price to pay for just that. It takes hours of screwing around for DAYS to get it to do anything other than just hold files. Other products have just about everything that you could get out of unRaid (Like built in video streaming, music streaming, picture viewing, webmin, nagios, smart stats, iTunes server, etc.) right of their box and without screwing around with it for hours. No Linux command line experience required. Admit it. Please. LimeTech needs this feedback. Customers aren't happy and if others saw what a Synology could do out of the box I'd bet even more wouldn't be happy.
  4. If you are using PHP52. There are serious bugs in PHP5.2 and using any sort of Zend Optimizer or xcache. Gist is stay away from PHP5.2 if you have control over that. I've had tons of problems with 52 in my experience. 53 fixed all my woes (if SMF will work with it).
  5. Yup, same here. I'm glad Lime-Tech knows about it. I thought something had happened to my flash drive that I just registered. >.< I just bought unraid and it had been working great for 1 week at least with the 3 drives I started with. As soon as I added the 4th and rebooted it started doing this which I thought was interesting... Kinda scary since all my stuff is on it. That's what I get for going with Beta i guess. This is slightly comforting...
  6. And now even though it's copying at a teeth grinding 900KB/s, it IS copying without a hitch so far.... only 184 GB to go!!!! >.< >.<
  7. On both drives (No Parity ATM) I got the following. I think this is fallout from when I first had network issues which were probably caused by funky BIOS settings: ran --fix-fixable and testing now
  8. Following this procedure now... http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Check_Disk_Filesystems
  9. Here's some more details. (Now I'm in v5) V5 symptoms are the same but actually display an error on the screen when it happens. I get the attached error in Windows First.... Then I see this come up in the console REISERFS error (device md1): reiserfs-2025 reiserfs_cache_bitmap_metadata: bitmap block 50659328 is corrupted: first bit must be 1. No array errors are showing up in the management web page. Here it is straight from syslog
  10. Hm maybe that's my problem. Windows 7 doesn't ask me to login when i just go to network places > Tower. How would i log in as root? I'm on 4.7 now but I did try that Permissions setting in 5 when I was trying it. I'd like to get 5 to work cuz I have several Apple devices on my network.
  11. Ok, WOW. one step closer Here's what I did because I was at the last measure before dropping unRAID completely. unRAID seemed to me at first about as picky as VMWare ESXi. But something in CMOS was just quirky I guess. 1) Unplug everything and rearrange cables a little more nicely 2) Restore CMOS to factory defaults 3) Disable all unnecessary peripheral devices....again 4) Make sure the flash is bootable 5) Turn off Quick boot 6) Boot up unRaid and now network is great....read on.. However, When I try to copy stuff over to the array now I get: I'm using Windows 7 to write to it and I'll try restarting right after I post this. I've attached a new syslog with network working this time. Restart didn't fix anything. syslog.txt
  12. Memtest came out good. No error after 1 full pass. I got my hands on a gb Realtek. My friend is using one of these on an unraid install (not sure which model it is) but it's from the compatibility list. It's working worse than my 10/100 Intel. It's gotta be the motherboard at this point. Bummer. I've seen others on the forums have success with the same model
  13. will do. My Mushkin RAM have been solid in the past but they're sensitive to their timing settings and get wonky if their wrong. I wish unraid came with something like nethogs or something. That would be nice
  14. Got my hands on an old Intel Pulse 10/100mb card. Results are MUCH BETTER. I still get the same symptoms except now the network lasts 10 minutes or until I run a major task like a parity check. It drops about 5 packets then recovers for another 10 minutes. At least now it can maintain connectivity. So my pings end up looking like: 200 good pings Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out 1 good ping with 3000ms latency 200 good pings Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out Timed Out 1 good ping with 3000ms latency ....and so on.
