  1. @Benni-chan Can't wait for you to release this... happy to assist in beta testing. PM me if you need any assistance.
  2. That would be very helpful - how might I go about getting these unMenu packages?
  3. Please could you share the commands you use to run them as nobody? Despite numerous attempts, I've not been able to do it from advice I've read in previous posts. Thank you!
  4. I already had Plex installed, so the folders were already created.
  5. I installed the light script and pointed it at the various directories and clicked "Save Configuration". That crashed the unraid web interface (the page never loaded). I restarted and the web interface came back to life, but when I click on the Plex plugin in Utils, it crashed again. When I say crashes - I mean that the webpage sits "Waiting for 10.x.x.x" but the page never loads. I cannot access any pages on the interface. Other web-based applications (SAB, Sickbeard, unmenu, etc.) however work. Any ideas (running 5.0b10)? No syslog errors. Thank you
  6. Can't vouch for them as merchants (I haven't ordered from them myself), but they do sell through Amazon which gives some credibility. http://vnnphim.org/store/product_info.php?c=789&n=493964&i=B002ZCXK0I&x=Western_Digital_2_TB_Caviar_Green_SATA_II_Intellipower_64_MB_Cache_Bulk_OEM_Desktop_Hard_Drive_WD20EARS Slightly better deal than Amazon has at the moment ($75 I think). If it were me, I'd probably go with Amazon's reputable service, but thought I'd share in case people would rather save the $5.
  7. Thank you for the update. Please do keep this thread posted on your results... I'm avidly watching!
  8. Best place to put those type of apps is on a cache drive. They will do lots of read/writes which will mean constant spin-ups of the parity drive. Not that you will require a plus or pro license to use a cache drive. Will work equally well on 4.7 or 5.0
  9. The 5.0beta9 is pretty stable now with no known severe defects. As a new user, you may however want to play it safe and use 4.7 (as you don't need the 3TB support in 5.0) It isn't necessary, but highly highly recommended. Much of the purpose of having UnRAID is the protection derived from the parity drive. If you're prepared to live with the risk of loss, the UnRAID will support this configuration
  10. So these should (provided they are as described/ pictures) go from a AOC-SASLP-MV8 to 4 SATA drives? Just wanted to check before taking the plunge!

  12. You don't *have* to preclear any drives. In layman's terms, preclear stress-tests the drive and formats ready for UnRaid use. The question is can you afford to have the disk fail? Preclear clearly won't prevent this, but should weed out a disk that's on its last legs. When answering this question, remember that a cache drive isn't part of the protected array, so isn't recoverable after a failure. On this basis, one could argue it is even more important to preclear. IMHO, I preclear every drive before using in a production environment - yes, I can't start using the drive for 24hrs, but better this than losing data in the future.
  13. Do you have UnRaid-Web installed? That can cause some conflicts with the UnRaid page.
  14. I believe those MV8 cards are 3Tb compatible.
  15. Two schools of thought here - one is that you've been trusting your data to a non-preclear tested drive for a year, so why test it now... Second one is perhaps you've been lucky so far, and the best course of action is to "quit" while you're ahead. Take the time to make sure the drive is reliable for the storage of your data while you're transferring to UnRAID. I appreciate you want it to be up and running asap... I know I did, but a day spent now could save a lot of heartache later. It's kind of like driving down a highway for an hour every day at 90mph. There won't be a cop out there to catch you every day... perhaps not even for a month, but I guarantee that you're not going to manage a year without a ticket. I can't take any credit for this quote, but I love it and think it is germane to this topic... "There are two types of hard drives: those that have failed already, and those that will fail in future"
  16. @bjp999 Many thanks for taking the time to put together such a thorough and thoughtful analysis. You have convinced me to go with the AOC-SASLP-MV8. It seems to be the controller of choice anyway. Very much appreciate your helpful comments.
  17. I took a look at the SuperMicro site for the AOC-USAS2-L8i card (here), which has a link to the list of compatible HDDs (here). I notice that there are 2 3TB drives listed... a Seagate and a Hitachi... makes me feel a little more confident about the card. I read somewhere that people were concerned with the "future-proof" effect of only 3Gb channels, which makes this card potentially less appealing. Is this not a big deal for an UnRAID user? Thanks for your assistance.
  18. Can you give me some reccomendations in the $100 - $150 price point? Thank you
  19. Hi, So - it's time for me to upgrade my array with some more HDDs, but I've run out of SATA ports on my motherboard (an X8SIL-F-O). I've got plans to add another 16-18 drives in due course, and whilst I'm not going to use 3TB drives until thoroughly tested, I would of course want the controller to be compatible. I've read a number of topics on controller cards, and thought the AOC-USAS2-L8i was the right card for me. I was under the impression that it would support another 8 drives (with the use of two forward breakout cables), but the Supermicro page talks about supporting 63 devices. Further my motherboard isn't on the list of compatible motherboards on the SM page either. The AOC-SASLP-MV8 seems to have been the card of choice... would I be better off with this one? Grateful for any clarification/ advice you could dispense! Thank you in advance.
  20. Please can you post a SMART report for the disk?
  21. The best place IMHO is the cache drive. That's where I run them, and the powerdown script takes care of the active python processes in a normal or UPS power down process

Might you have an invite to share? Would be very much appreciated... I love getting in on these Google beta programs. Thank you!
  23. Are you certain those drives were wiped? A failed SATA controller seems unlikely to do this.
  24. Cheers, TV > Show > Season > Movies > Type > If I were you, I'd put them into 2 different user shares... TV and Movies. Then use a split level of 2 for the TV (will keep all seasons together for a given TV series). Don't quite follow your movies structure. Do you mean? Movies > Action > An Action Movie (2006) > An Action Movies (2006).mkv If so, I'd go with 3, basically leaving it to split it up by movie
