How are you mounting the OWC Multimounts into the main chamber?

I'm curious to know if there are any updates also. This would work well for an unRAID that doesn't require much power. I use mine in conjunction with an HTPC that does all the processing anyway so the unRAID is only used to store media. Has anyone tried to mod the DS380 to fit 2 x Silverstone FF123B 120mm Ultra Fine Fan Filter on the other side panel for increased air flow?

Some reviews and people have said the drive cages feel loose but to me once drives are in and snapped in they feel tight enough. With the stock fans and the filter on, during parity checks the drives will go to 50C depending on location. If you remove the filter it will help tremendously. I switched them out for Noctuas because my motherboard only supports PWM fans. For me, if the fans are set to auto my cpu/system doesn't get hot enought to spin the side fans fast enough to cool the drives. I set them to a specific value and they run at 800-900 rpms and my rear runs at 600 rpms with auto. Drives are close to or below 40C. I also drilled out a bunch more holes in the drive cage and especially in the plastic gpu piece. As far as backplanes I don't know. I won't be poppin drives in and out all the time. Also I noticed some reviews complaining about cable management with a wad of cables shown between the motherboard and 2 side fans completely restricting air flow. For my setup, I wrapped the fan and case cables around the side fans, extra power cables fit above the backplane and power supply, sata cables fit behind the backplane and below the power supply between the rear fan and finnally my motherboard atx cable comes up off the motherboard and behind the backplane. This leaves an empty void and direct path from intake fans to backplane and motherboard to rear fan. Those drive temps seem fairly high to me. I'm used to seeing temps in the mid 30's and anything above mid 40's worry me. I don't think the backplanes fail from inserting the drives. It seems to me that most backplanes, in general, fail because the pcb traces weren't designed to handle the current load of the drives. Designers often fail to consider the current of drives during startup. For anyone into modding cases, I wonder how difficult it would be to cut out the right side panel so that the air flows right through the case from one side to the other. I highly suspect that is the reason for the high temps. It is difficult to calculate the exact path of the air flow, but I'm suspecting the current design creates small pockets of stagnant air which prevents proper cooling of the drives. If anything, someone should try to measure temps with the right side panel partially open to see if it makes a significant difference.

Any updates on this case? How secure is the hdd tray and how are the temps of the drives under parity check? Those seem to be the major concerns with this case. Otherwise, it seems perfect. From what I've seen, the only other major contender to this case is the u-nas 800. PS. How long do the backplanes usually last? It seems that there are always people complaining about failing backplanes.

How would we use this with unRaid?

Stupid question, but what do people use SAB and SB for? I know it is for usenet, but I tried it today and couldn't find anything useful as there is no way to specify exactly what is downloaded. Maybe I'm not using it correctly? At the moment, I use my unRaid only for BR main movie ISO rips with no compression. But it seems I'm missing out on unRaid's full potential after reading this thread.

Yea, and I bet that guy who purchased 16 units parted and resold a good portion of them. I'm actually considering purchasing a second or third one just in case any components go bad. When replacing a single component in the case comes out to almost the same cost as an entire unit, might as well buy the whole thing, right?

I actually just received mine today. I had my name on the waiting list ever since I missed the very first round. It is now $300 instead of $200, but it was still a good deal as shipping was less than $60. They are located in Utah and I'm in Los Angeles and the monster weighs in at a packaged weight of 66lbs!! They really pack it well. I haven't had the chance to test it yet, but overall, it looks very clean. It even still has most of the clear plastic cover. I'd consider myself a bit OCD and even I'm fairly impressed with the quality/cleanliness. Also, Andy at TAMSolutions is awesome and extremely responsive. I'm a happy customer. +1

Changed mode from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS and now the disks are recognized. I should have checked this sooner. The network problem is still unsolved though. It seems at the moment to behave properly. The next time it stops working, I'll try to get a syslog.

I apologize for not making my initial post more clear. I was testing the new build directly with monitor and keyboard hooked up. I could not get a response from the system with the syslog commands directly into the console: cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog-2008-04-10.txt chmod a-x /boot/syslog-2008-04-10.txt To explain in more detail, I ran the syslog commands to log a syslog. I unplugged the USB drive and plugged directly into another computer running Windows 7. There was no syslog file in the USB drive, even with hidden file view enabled. I'll try it a couple more times after dinner.

I need help. Using unRaid 4.7 and a Sandisk USB. I built a mini-ITX machine a couple years ago using a Zotact MB. Roughly 6 months using it fine, I started getting intermittent issues with the network and then one day it stopped altogether. I searched around and came to the conclusion that the NIC on the Zotac board had issues. Life got busy so I didn't bother building a new machine and stopped using my unRaid server. Just recently, I built a new machine using this MB (ECS H61H2-I3). The network works maybe once out of every 5 reboots. I searched the issue and found that it could be the following: 1. Volume not named UNRAID (not likely as I was running the server just fine for several months) 2. USB port is slow to initialize (maybe, but intermittent?) 3. USB drive is failing (I think it is this one) When I get this error, I can't even run any commands. Example: I will try to run ifconfig and nothing shows. It just skips a line and looks like it ran the command, but nothing actually ran. I can't even get it to save a syslog. Doing the below gets me nothing on the drive: cp /var/log/syslog /boot/syslog-2008-04-10.txt chmod a-x /boot/syslog-2008-04-10.txt Also, when the network does work, unRaid does not list any drives attached even though the drives show up in BIOS.

Is there a way to stop windows from doing that and could it be the reason teracopy fails? I always have the destination folder open when I copy and maybe windows rescans the folder everyone once in a while which might cause teracopy to time out?

Anyone know what the section highlighted in red means? The green bar that progresses to the right takes a long time and seems to be the reason teracopy times out when copying. Even when in cmd window, accessing my unRaid share (Z drive) takes 10s or longer. Merely switching to the z: mapped network drive doesn't occur until the green bar fills up.

I am wired. This only happens with Teracopy. Copying without Teracopy works just fine. Also, using Windows Vista, it looks like every time I try to copy, windows tries to index the unRaid share. I think that is what is timing out Teracopy. Does unRaid have an auto disconnect feature? What is a fast USB drive? The Cruzer micro I have right now is slow as molasses and it takes unraid forever to boot. It averages 10MB/s transfer rates vs. 30MB/s on my super talent.

I use Teracopy and I'm not sure if the disks are spun down since this happens even when I first start up the server. I'm just simply copying and pasting the ISOs from my Vista PC to the mapped unRaid drive.

Every time I copy something to my server, the first time it fails and I have to recopy it. The thing is even though the first copy fails, part of the file is copied over so when I recopy it, I'm prompted to overwrite the existing file. This happens every single time. Anyone know why this happens?

Newegg had it onsale for $320 with something free not too long ago. The 4220 was an even better deal IIRC. It came out to something like $250 with a free HDD. I think I'll eventually get a Norco just because it looks nice. It definitely is a luxury though since I have the iCute sitting downstairs. I bought it for $90 in Taiwan.
