Great find, thanks! How did you find out about it? Google doesn't find much about the iHD_drv_video.so driver on the Plex forums. Have you reported the issue to the Plex devs? If so, is there a thread that you can link me to so I can +1 it?
It's hidden away in their forum somewhere as a workaround.. I'll report back if I find it again!

For those of you interested in how to fix this.

For those of you interested in how to fix this: The PMS 1.18.1 branch includes a new driver that breaks Hardware Transcoding for Apollo Lake Intel CPUs.
In Linuxserver.io's docker image this is located at /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so
Just delete iHD_drv_video.so and transcoding will work again.

There seems to be a general issue with plex hardware transcoding that is likely the root cause of my report.
Seems like there is nothing you guys can do on your end.

I don’t know if there was another forum discussion about the problem but here is the beta announcement.
Thanks - this is likely the root cause of my current issue. I'll report back if that update helps solve it.

@rix Are you using Plex to test this? I ask because there is currently a bug in their Quick Sync code that affects 8th Gen CPU’s. It’s supposed to be fixed in the latest beta but that version is not available on their Docker container and it’s not yet released.
Could you link me to their thread about this? This could likely be the remaining issue.
Would love to close my bug report in this forum!

Hi all, this looks an aweful lot like my issue (that has only started after upgrading to 6.8 RC4 from 6.7).
I tried applying the syslinux line as follows:default menu.c32 menu title UNRAID prompt 0 timeout 50 label Unraid OS menu default kernel /bzimage append intel_iommu=off initrd=/bzroot label Unraid OS GUI Mode kernel /bzimage append initrd=/bzroot,/bzroot-gui label Unraid OS Safe Mode (no plugins, no GUI) kernel /bzimage append initrd=/bzroot unraidsafemode label Unraid OS GUI Safe Mode (no plugins) kernel /bzimage append initrd=/bzroot,/bzroot-gui unraidsafemode label Memtest86+ kernel /memtest
Hardware transcoding is now starting again, as it did on 6.7.2, but the video is extremely glitched and blocky (unwatchable).
Anyone else with a J4105 having the same issue on 6.8?

Why is this marked as urgent?
I don't see any core functionality broken
I edited the post accordingly.

Thanks for the helpful comment - this looks an awful lot like my issue, but the workaround is not working for me. Also note, that Quicksync was working fine with 6.7 for me.

The Intel ARK entry for your Celeron makes no mention of Quick Sync support. It's ominously absent from here too: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/celeron/j4105.html?wapkw=j4105
It has perfectly worked from 6.6 up until now - look up the integrated HD Graphics 600, the issue has to be something else.

Hardware transcoding with Intel QuickSync broke for me running 6.8 - has this happened for anyone else, or might this be a Plex-Update related issue?

Couple of times I've seen you post this. Is there a problem that say my Update Assistant should look for? Since he was coming from 6.5.3, I thought that an old version of dynamix.plg shouldn't attempt to load since it checked for OS versions. (Only really ancient versions didn't check the OS version)
see below:
45 minutes ago, bisk said:I had to delete the dynamix.plg file as well. I was getting the "File not found" error when trying to access the web GUI of the server. I deleted the file, rebooted and then I was able to connect. I too was updating from 6.5.3.
Me too (see page 1).. would highly recommend you automate this file removal.. I have upgraded continuously starting with 6.3, and this file seems to have stuck around. Seems highly likely I am not the only one.

Thanks bonienl! The new style is awesome... !
-
I deleted all plgs from /flash/config/plugins
Now it works..
-
The only ones left are
community.applications.plg
dynamix.cache.dirs.plg
dynamix.plg
libvirtwol.plg
recycle.bin.plg
unassigned.devices.plg
user.scripts.plg

Try the following:
With Unraid 6.5.3 installed change the theme to "white" (as you probably already did)
Upgrade to Unraid 6.6.0-rc1 and the default white theme should be replaced by the new theme.
GUI is tested and confirmed to be working on all major browsers.
Firefox 61.0.2 is working fine.
Thanks for your fast replies.. using safe mode it works perfectly fine.
It must be one of my plugins. How do I best debug this?
-
Okay, booting in safe mode works... one of my plugins must be at fault.
-
Hm, I did not modify any themes... but the unformatted screen (screenshot #1) showed up with "azure" still selected.
Screenshot #2 shows what happened after I rolled back to 6.5.3 and set my theme back to the white one.
-
-
Firefox,... am currently trying something: I moved back to 6.5.3 (powerdown -r and the flash share were my friend), and set the theme to "white".
I was using the azure theme, since it came up.
Should also help to just set theme to "white" in the /flash/config/plugins/dynamix/dynamix.cfg, as a workaround without required reboots.
-
Did that,... also using the "disable cache" option in the dev tools.. to no avail.
