  1. ah oops, i didnt see your response, sorry. you must have posted while i was writing. Im going to try your method now, lets see how this goes. Will update shorty.
  2. When i tried the above, just above the SCRUB button, under the pool information i see the following (maybe this is helpful to someone who knows what it means): ps: uuid partially hidden, not that anyone cares.
  3. Well, sadly, i cant do this. Obviously when both drives are selected and start the array, the "cache" section says "unmountable" and at the bottom of the page it asks me to format the samsung drive (refer to the original post screenshot, still the same). When i click the "cache" link to look at the settings/status page, the "scrub"/"balance" buttons are disabled (enabling help shows "Scrub is only available when the Device is Mounted", and obviously implying that i cant scrub if it says "unmountable"). ...back to square one? PS: i tried starting the array in normal mode and maintenance mode both, exact same outcome.
  4. Ran the same plugin scan with the samsung drive plugged in, im getting slightly different error:
  5. hey guys, can someone here give me a quick direction on how to resolve this problem: Im having some issues with my 2 cache drives after a power outage, keep saying unmountable (suspect file system problem). I came across this plugin and installed it, and it said the following: Although that is helpful, the "Unraid Main" button just brings me to the main page. Im not very clear on how to run these "file system checks". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the link to a more indepth explanation of my problem if anyone cares to read: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=50147 TY in advance
  6. Hmm, i had a quick look at the wiki, but i cant seem to find any actual instructions on fixing the file system. I came accross the "Fix Common Problems" plugin (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=48972), installed it and scanned and it suggests the following: The button above brings me to the main page, which is not helpful. Obviously i need to run filesystem checks, but i dont know how to do this. =/
  7. Physically unplugging OCZ: assigned the samsung as the cache drive and started the array, and outcome is the same as the original screenshot. the cache says unmountable and it asks me to format the samsung. ---------------- Physically unplugging the Samsung: Attempt 1: assigned the OCZ as the only cache drive. Blue circle still remain next to the drive saying its a new drive, error still in the status page of the drive (from the original screenshot). Started the array and and the cache is unmountable and asks me to format the OCZ drive at the bottom of the page. Attempt 2: samsung still remains unplugged but i plugged the OCZ into the sata port which the samsung was plugged into. green circle now, assigned it as the cache drive ans started array. took a long time to start the array again (every other time literally takes 5 secs, this took 1-2 minutes). Cache remains unmountable and asks me to format the OCZ (green dot next to it still). Stopping the array makes the greendot dissapear and blue dot appear...
  8. More strange behaviour: Turn the PC off, unplug the OCZ and plug it into a different sata port just to check, then turn the PC up again, assign it as the 2nd cache drive (samsung one is still the first), then start up the array, cache remains "unmountable" but this time the blue circle by the OCZ is now green, and the OCZ stats page doesnt show any error (but starting the array this time took much longer than every other time i have started the array, more like a minute or so vs 5 secs). However, when i stop the array, the OCZ is gone, doesnt show up in any of the dropdowns, and i can no longer assign it because its not showing up. Im really confused now. I bet if i restart or plug it into a different Sata Port, it would show up again.
  9. Also, i tried un-assigning the OCZ drive and only assigning the samsung drive as the Cache drive and starting the array, and the outcome is the same. Says unmountable and asks me to format the Samsung drive at the bottom of the page.
  10. So my Unraid machine went down unexpectedly due to external power issue (it was behind a surge/overload protector but didnt have a UPS), and when it came back up, im seeing some issues with the cache drives (obviously cant load my VMs since i cant mount the cache drives). So, my build: I have unraid setup with 5 data drives, 1 Parity drive, 2 cache drives (2x 250GB SSDs in btrfs, giving me 250GB space), and some other drives in Unassigned devices. Lets talk about the cache drives. They store my Windows VM, which i would very much like to get back if at all possible. the drives are 1x 250GB Samsung 850 Evo and 1x 250GB OCZ. Seems like after the power outage, the OCZ has errors, and the Samsung says "unmountable" (or is that the entire cache system?). Couple of times i restarted because, once the OCZ was not visible then the Samsung was not visible blah blah, but after disconnecting cables, reconnecting and restarting i now see both drives. Now once i have both connected and array stopped, i can click each drive and see its stats/settings. OCZ: says "partition format: error" (screenshot attached) Samsung: under "btrfs filesystem show:" it says "warning, device 2 is missing" (screenshot attached) When i mount the drives back into cache, then start the array, the cache says its "unmountable", followed by giving me the option to format the Samsung drive (screenshot attached). Also, on the main page, i can see that the OCZ drive shows up with blue icon to the left, which says "no data". I really dont mind if one of the drives are broken beyond repair (i can easily replace them), but i would very much like to be able to recover the data that was on it if at all possible. Can someone help me and give some advice? If you need any more info, please ask (im noob, so you might need to give me step by step instructions). ATTACHMENTS: http://imgur.com/a/G231c (sorry failed to attach here, so had to host externally, blacked out some identifiable codes) PS: this is Unraid 6.1.x
  11. Hey guys. Im somewhat new to unRaid. Installed and up and running for couple of months, and it's going great so far. Just thinking ahead and was wondering, what would happen if the USB flash drive that is running unRaid somehow dies or breaks, what would happen to all that I have? Should I be running some backup on this flash drive? If so, how? Cheers, Ty in advance.
  12. Awesome thanks guys. I didnt know that was called the "mover". Maybe someone should consider renaming it to Cache Mover or just something to do with the emptying of cache. Great if you know what it is, but not intuitive for newbies, and we all start as one. I have set it to run hourly now, so that should solve the problem. But wonder why this is not the default, and wonder why this is not automated instead of scheduled (maybe auto run the mover when the array is not heavily being used for say 5 minutes). Its also confusing why the cache is allowed to write the whole 240gb while 120 of it is allocated to the VM. This could potentially cause issues for the VM if the drive runs out of space (and windows still thinks it has space). Is this a bug?
  13. Hey Guys, I have an unraid system with a ssd cache drive. My cache drive is 240GB. I allocated 120GB of that and created a cache only share and installed a windows VM in it. Then for one of my other user shares (media), i also selected to use cache (so i assume it copies to cache first then moves to the main raid). i have couple of problems: When told my media user share to use the cache, there was no option to say how much of the cache to use. So now it seems like its using up all the cache drive and eating into the space that was allocated for my windows VM. Currently, my windows VM says the C drive has about 60GB free (so only about 60gb used), but the unraid control panel UI says the whole cache drive only has about 10GB free (and im getting warning emails saying that the cache drive is on critical levels due to 95% full-ness). For the last few hours, i dont believe anything was copied to the madia drive anyway, so i dont really understand why the cache drive is not emptying? Is there any reason why? Is there any way for me to manually empty the cache drive (obviously i dont want to empty the VM data, just the daat from the media user share)? Cheers.
  14. Haha i agree. Is there any reason why the UI simply doesn't have an "empty drive" button which simply sets the drive to some read only mode and offloads all the drive contents to other drives in the array. Once emptied, then "update parity and remove" button which essentially runs that dd command the unmounts.
  15. whats done is done, but maybe someone should add a bold/red disclaimer at the top of the first post saying that the instructions are incomplete? Because i digged up this thread, more people might see it and maybe assume its complete instructions. my bad for bringing this to the top
  16. Also @gundamguy, see if you can edit your initial response and remove the section about the directions for 5-6 (or maybe a mod can do it?). That thread has incomplete instructions, i followed blindly and ended up losing a drive (thank god it was a small drive), just lost 1/2 tb of media. Its my bad, i should have googled the console command, but lets try to make sure others fall on the same trap.
  17. Could you please explain what steps i need to take to achieve "removing the drive and rebuilding parity". Do i need to take a backup of the contents of the drive first, or are you suggesting that the rebuilding of the parity will recover the data from the drive and add it to the array? Few steps i need to take would be appreciated, im a noob here haha.
  18. Ah crap. well, nothing i can do now, whats done is done... Can someone here please enlighten me on my thread here (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=49044.msg470416) regarding scenario 5 and 6. I was linked to here from that thread, but clearly that is not accurate and its possible that others might follow my thread here then get stuck with the same problem.
  19. To where did you move the data from the disk you removed? haha, nowhere? more i think about is, more i feel like maybe there is a missing step haha. I simply followed the quoted instructions above, i assumed the console command ("dd bs=1M if=/dev/zero of=/dev/md3") copies the data from the said drive to the rest of the array. Im guessing there is another step i should have done before all this? Can someone please explain how/what i should have done? Also, is there any way for me to recover the missing data, the old parity might still be valid. ps: im reallllly new to this, im just getting the hang of unraid.
  20. sorry, cant seem to attach images, here is a link:
  21. Sorry for resurrecting this thread. I was linked to this thread from another post about how to remove one of my drives, but doing so made me lose 1/2 a TB of data it seems, and i dont even know what, grr Is there anything i can do now? screenshots attached for both before and after, obviously you can see that the used space went from 16.7tb to 16.1. tried clicking new config again and mounting the old drive, but that comes up as "unmountable". Im pretty sure i have to run the parity check again shouldnt i, obviously the parity wont be valid. here was the console output from the executed command: root@karie:~# dd bs=1M if=/dev/zero of=/dev/md4 dd: error writing ‘/dev/md4’: No space left on device 953870+0 records in 953869+0 records out 1000204853248 bytes (1.0 TB) copied, 22028.4 s, 45.4 MB/s
  22. Yup. But seems like programs running as windows services that are executed by the standard user (which ever the default is) does not seem to have access to access network locations nor the mapped network drives. However, they have access to normal drives.
  23. Hey Guys, Im new to unraid and having some issues with some applications not seeing my network drives. The specific application is Sickrage which i have installed within a windows VM. I also have a usershare called "Media" which the VM can see and is mounted as a Network Drive. However, sadly, the software (Sickrage in this case) cannot seem to see the network location \\UnraidName\Media nor the mounted network drive for that location (this is probably a issue with the said software). Anyway, what i was wondering is, is there any way to mount this Media User share as a drive (say D:\ drive) to my VM the same way i mounted my C:\ to install windows to it. Note: the Media user Share has all my media in it already, so i prefer not losing all of it by experiments (as i dont have other backups of it all).
  24. @dlandon thanks so much for clarifying things. That makes perfect sense, i think i understand it a lot better now. Felt like some sorcery before haha. I will format it and try again (in the process of copying stuff at the moment, it will be another half a day haha). @itimpi: Thanks for the Advice. I got couple of questions after reading your bit though: So, yes, i remember reading about this on the first post on this thread. I will be using the drive in unraid only, and only for this VM. So, it doesnt really need to be imported into another windows environment. I will likely try setup as a secondary drive to the VM rather than a "share". Is there a prefered format type if i were to mount it to the VM as a secondary drive, or should i use XFS? Also, how do you select your secondary drive: do you select under "2nd Vdisk Location" of the VM and select "/mnt/disks/MY_DISK_NAME_HERE"?
