  1. pendo's post in Recommended way to proceed - multiple disk failures was marked as the answer   
    Follow up:
     
    Changed 8087 to SATA breakout cable and restarted.  All disks were visible, and rebuild eventually completed, however now disks 2 and 3 showed “FAILING NOW” for spin retry count.  These were 2 of 5 disks purchased new when the machine was built in 1/2014.
     
    Replacing the aging 450W silverstone gold with a new Corsair sf750 platinum seems to have fixed everything.
