But the SASLP-MV8 will work fine in UNRAID with mixed drives correct? I mean I can use 2TB 3TB and 4TB with no problems? Also, I am using 1 SASLP-MV8 already, but I have all 2TB drives. There won't be a problem using another SASLP-MV8 with mixed drives on it as well....or will these cards (SASLP-MV8) not work with 2 of them attached to the same system with mixed drives. I know you can use 2 of them together but I am not sure if you can use 2 of them with mixed drives. Thanks for any info.

I use the command 'lsof', grepping for /mnt: lsof | grep /mnt It will list shares, drives that are open. Good luck and welcome aboard! Will using {UNMENU -System Info - Open Files} do the same thing? I mean that should show me all open files correct?

Actually I think that is the report for disk 3. I have a parity drive and then 3 data drives. The one that was precleared was disk 3. It had the error as it was installing it. I have since rebooted and the syslog shows no errors. Nor do any of the smart reports for any of the drives. Just was wondering what those errors were.

I just finished my first preclear (25 hours!) and I wanted to post my preclear log. I looked through it and didn't see any errors but wanted to post it here to be sure. Also, when I was adding it to the array there were 2 errors in the sys log that I hope are nothing to worry about. They (the errors) are at the end almost. There are at Jan 20 at 2:33:16. There are no errors on the webpage, and everything seems fine. Just curious about errors. Thanks. Hey all. I have a couple of questions about the supermicro X7SPE. I am having to replace my Asus P5K-E and I thought about this. 1. Can I use it on 4.7 or will I have to use 5.0 beta? 2. Smitty2k1 has it and gave it glowing reviews. But he mentioned that he only gets about 15MB's write speed with parity. That is about half the speed I get with my current board. Does anyone know if this is because he is using 5400rpm drives or that it is the board itself bottlenecking the write speeds. 3. I will be using the SASLP-MV8, that's why I asked question #1, and was wondering if this board is powerful enough to run 14 drives. Right now I am using all Seagate LP's. I know the CPU isn't much involved in parity computation, but I wasn't sure about bus speeds. 4. How is the streaming of HD movies with this? Any stuttering or lockups? 5. I had considered using the ASUS P8H67-M LE but read on a thread here that it won't work on 4.7. Is that true? The Asus would be a great little board for using 2 SASLP-MV8 and I doubt it would have any bottlenecks in writing speed. How do figure out which devices are open? I am new to unRAID and have a AOC-SASLP-MV8 arriving tomorrow. I would like to use this beta with it so I could have 3TB support. Thanks Jim B

This doesn't work. I replaced the 2 files after backing up of course, and it will boot, I can access the webpage, but it says Invalid configuration...too many wrong or missing disks. I went to the devices and set up the disks EXACTLY as they should be, but nothing. It still says Invalid configuration. I can shut down, copy the 5.14 files back over, and everything boots fine. I tried to downgrade to 5.11 and it went crazy. It worked fine until it was time for the drives to power down...then all hell broke loose. Couldn't even access the web page, had to force shutdown at command level. I just want to downgrade to 4.7 since I will be using a SASLP-MV8 that arrives on monday. I don't want to have to move the 2TB of data I have already placed on unRAID off, and then wipe everything and start over. But I will if that it the only way. Can anyone please tell me what's wrong that I can't downgrade to 4.7? Again just replacing the 2 files DOES NOT WORK. This week I built a unRAID server using beta 5.14. I also ordered the SASLP-MV8. User dgaschk posted in another post that I should use 4.7 since the SASLP-MV8 has problems in the beta's but that it should be fixed in the 5 release version. I didn't know that before installing. Guess I missed that in all the reading I did before installing. Is there a way to downgrade to 4.7 since I never had it to begin with. I have no configuration file other that beta 5.14. I might be able to put off using the SASLP-MV8 for a month or so before I need to add it to the server. This is the second time I have received this error. It deals with ata 2. The errors are at the end of the log. What is this error and is it something to do with the data cable or MB? I have checked the smart data for the drive and it is fine. Also, these are drives I have used without problems in WHS. When it happened before I was transferring about 1TB of data to the server. Nothing lost, just throw an error. This time it came out of the blue after the disk spin down. Could this be related to the beta? I am not using LSI based cards. All 3 drives are connected to MB. I have configured and setup my Unraid server. I am now in the process of transferring 8TB of movies from my WHS V1 to Unraid. I have a HUGE problem. I have used shortcuts on certain movie genres, "Ahem", "nature videos", that I am not using media browser for. I have all of these movies in their own folder by name, and have created shortcuts of that folder and placed these shortcuts in the "actress's" folder. That way I can browse either by actress or movie title. The only problem is that since transfering to Unraid, NONE of the shortcut links work. Someone please tell me there is a simple solution to correct this other than by going movie by movie and re-creating the links. I know of a program that will work in windows but I don't think it will work on Unraid. Also, for anyone reading this and getting ready to set up their own server, if you are re-using hard drives make sure that they don't have that HPA CRAP. Set up my server, tranferred over about 1TB, and then looked and discovered the dreaded HPA Wiped everything, removed HPA, and then reinstalled. Oh well, now I know. Never use Gigabyte Motherboards! Hey all. I am setting everything up and was wondering about user shares. Right now I only have 10 2TB drives that I will be using. 9 data 1 parity of course. I want Unraid to use all available disks kind of like WHS V1. I would hate to run out of space on a certain drive, and not be able to add new episodes to a TV series or new movies to the Movie folder. Should I set the level to 4 or 999. I am not sure about which one will use all drives. Also, is this a setting that I could change in the future, or is it a set at the beginning and that is it? Also, I did a run through with beta 14 with just the free version, and everything seems fine. I will be adding a supermicro SASLP-MV8 this week so I can use all my drives. Should I start with 4.7 or just jump in with beta 14? I see some people are having problems with the beta, but I don't have a LSI based card. Wasn't sure if the Beta was mature enough yet.
