  1. bump because this happens with remotely mounted smb shares off local network as well locking up my server.
  2. as an update, the new image created using 6GB ram and restored with the file from the 2GB img has been up for over 10 hours without issue. It seems to be a little bit snappier too, but that may also be a placebo.
  3. yes, I am aware, but I still need a switch there to provide the backbone to the main house switch, considering they are in separate rooms. also, that doesn't solve my "assigning more than 2gb locks up the webadmin and tanks the lan" problem. I've just completed making a new vm with 6gb and applied a backup/restore to it.. waiting to see what happens.
  4. yup. I'm going to try a fresh install with 6gb from the start and see how that goes.
  5. It has a quad port nic, so it has fully independent real ports.
  6. Question: how much ram are you all using? Anytime I go over 2GB the web gui will freeze within a few minutes and lan network goes down (though, the ssl vpn server still operates normally) Thanks
  7. They may have added new SPP for some mitigations and other exploits. Since I no longer have G6/7 hardware, I stopped following updates for those machines. I've updated that line to reflect that. most likely a bios setting since your previous machine did it without issue. My assumption is that you're using an onboard raid controller with the disks, which is causing the errors (this guess is made without seeing any info from your machines.) I would have similar problems early on using the onboard or even using a standalone hba card with the onboard raid controller still enabled.
  8. passthrough a usb card/port for the vm and done.
  9. I run sophos as a vm on Unraid for my firewall. Uses hardly any extra power and wasn't that bad to setup. There is a thread on here with specifics. But really, vpn is the way to go for simplicity.
  10. download krusader from community applications make sure the vm is off use Krusader to move the vm image from the array position to the cache go into your xml, fix mapping for image location boot vm enjoy faster os operating speeds optional: once you know the vm is operational, shut it down and enable trim:
  11. yes I would start by isolating the system from unRaid by removing the boot usb. if it passes the bios boot process, then that implies the hardware mostly checks out. power down, put the usb back in, boot and see what happens. if it fails to boot, the usb could be damaged (hard to say without seeing what occurs on the screen, if it makes it to the unRaid os load-in...)
  12. and as such a noob, you have posted in the wrong thread. per your syslog, your hardware is ASRock - B250M-HDV BIOS P2.20 05/11/2017 Thats not a proliaint or HP hardware. I would suggest starting a new thread and posting up the same diagnostics.
  13. @AnnabellaRenee87 could comment best on that.
  14. had to help without knowing your setup. post your diagnostics zip file.
  15. Tools tab>diagnostics and then upload the zip file here
  16. the only difference in SMB config between the 2 Unraid servers is that "server B" has "max protocol = smb2" added to it.
  17. I'll see what happens using NFS later today for comparison. NFS publicly mounted share going offline resulted in both servers responding without throwing errors or locking up. when the NFS shares returned online, they also continued on like nothing had happened. let me know if there is any other info you need or methods to try. much appreciated! twins-diagnostics-20190629-1128.zip
  18. no, also, you shouldn't be running a vm on an array disk. do it either on a cache drive or via on an unassigned disk.
  19. done brand new disk but possibly an older cable, but thats why it's preclearing, to check it out since its new. it'll get a full smart self test next. and maybe another run through preclear. this disk is going in another server, but getting tested on this one first due to space issues. server went offline for an unRaid os update. those things tend to happen. my network otherwise is pretty rock solid and stable. It is not directly a problem with the remote server or network, but rather, how UD handles remote mounted shares that go offline. It occurs across all 3 of my installs, when a mounted smb share goes offline (not randomly, typically are offline when I'm doing an unRaid os update, or hardware swap). its a reproducible error/problem caused only by interaction with UD, as demonstrated below, carried on just now on a fresh boot: I have server A connected via smb to server B (both running unRaid) I stopped the array on server B, imitating an os update/reboot. Server A, still has the remote share mounted in UD from Server B on my local network Server A tries to find server B but can't After timing out, the gui section for mounting remote shares disappears (as indicated by the moving graphic which stops moving and shows only the disks inside the server. At the same time, the nginx upstream timeout occurs in the logs (watching live updates via tail) Jun 28 07:23:00 Twins nginx: 2019/06/28 07:23:00 [error] 5371#5371: *1961 upstream timed out (110: Connection timed out) while reading upstream, client: fe80::c48:f133:39ab:5f21, server: , request: "POST /plugins/unassigned.devices/UnassignedDevices.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock:", host: "twins.local", referrer: "http://twins.local/Main" There is no way to unmount missing share in the webgui now it returns "resource busy" in CLI, additionally, forcing it off does not work either Clicking on any tab other than main, the webgui is still functional for a short time and runs without error. Returning Server B back online (that hosts the remote share) still results in web gui loading icon. when it times out, UD displays disks in that server as before, no remote shares or section where that option is normally preset is visible. after multiple refreshes of main tab, web gui can crash (and often does for me) even when having the ability to shut down via web gui, UD hangs the shutdown (following not included in saved syslog, but taken from tail monitoring) Jun 28 07:45:27 Twins emhttpd: shcmd (151): /etc/rc.d/rc.docker stop Jun 28 07:45:28 Twins root: stopping dockerd ... 20. this server wouldn't respond in CLI to diagnostics command but I was able to get the syslog to copy to the flash.... it's something I guess. you'll see that a few minutes after the network connection times out, nginx tanks. I'll try to get something off the other, but it has ssh disabled and with no webGUI, not sure what I can do (thought I do have access to the flash drive via share) syslog.txt
