  1. Try to enable a swap file. Or preferably a swap partition
  2. I'm checking the Intel options, still haven't come to a conclusion. As for the passmark results - it's true the 4590 has only 4 cores, but it has hyperthreading (which the fx does not). So if you look at per/thread (which the fx has only one thread per core totaling in 8 threads, just like the i5), the 4590 is slower...
  3. Just looked into prices (trying to stay at around 450$ in NIS). The Intel proccessor that is priced the same as the FX-8350 is the i5-4590, with the 4690 around 25$ more and the 4690k 50$ more. Still haven't even checked the MBs at the same price point as the Gigabyte, but is it worth switching over to Intel for the same price tag ? I also need the processor + MB to support virtualization, so I can VM my desktop using XEN/KVM... P.S. - SuperMicro MBs aren't available in Israel to the public. Mainly used for servers, hardly any desktops... Thanks again.
  4. As for the hardware aspect - opened a new thread over the Hardware section http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35972.0 Just need information about the virtualization support planned for unRaid and will this hardware combination will be fit.
  5. Hi. My current setup is: C2D E8400 SuperMicro C2SBA+ SuperMicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 8GB DDR2 2TB Parity, 3*2TB+4*1TB+3*500GB Data, 128GB SSD Cache. Running unRaid 5.0.5 with Dynamix, SAB, SickBeard, Maraschino, Transmission, CrashPlan, BTSync, mySQL My plan is to upgrade the server to 6b10a, so I can VM my main desktop (currently i7-920 on a GA-EX58-UD5 with 24GB and an R9-290X). I'm also looking into Plex transcoding to about 6 different clients. Considering upgrading to an AMD FX-8350 with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3. I've got a space 4x4GB DDR3 for this build, later will be upgraded to 4x8GB if needed. The CPU has a passmark of 9020, which as I understand matters for Plex transcoding. The MB has 2*PCIEx16 (so I can connect the SAS controller and the R9 290X) and 2*PCIEx4 (so I can even add another 2 video cards with HDMI output for 2 XBMC VMs). Will be happy to hear your opinions / experience with this combination or any of the parts... P.S. - the CPU is 990NIS (around 250$) and the MB is 700NIS (around 175$) here in Israel. Suggesting alternate solutions will be great so I can compare the prices and availability. Thanks
  6. Got the same MB and just curious about your experience with it - are you using any plugins or addons on this server ? Thanks
  7. So I should look into XEN? I thought I saw somewhere in the forums you guys have chosen to focus on KVM, not XEN, but I might be mistaken.
  8. Hi. Long time user of unRaid, I want to build an unRaid server that will be able to run a VM to replace my current desktop (i7-920, 24GB ram, R9 290x, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5). The server will also run Plex (with transcoding) and CrashPlan, probably directly and not VMed/Dockerized (still open for suggestions). I'm considering using an AMD FX-8350/FX-9370 on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 with 32GB... I'll be happy for any advice about the processors and the motherboard, as I've been a long time Intel user, but don't think Intel can compete in the performance/price ratio... ps - AFAIK, unRaid is going to the KVM solution. Is there a reason to go with XEN instead? thanks in advance

  10. Exactly the same issue I reported a couple of days ago. Glad to know I'm not the only one. +1
  11. A few questions: 1. When you move the data from ReiserFS to XFS, do you move or copy and then delete? 2.Does it leave the source disk all zeroed out? if not - how come formating the disk leaves the parity intact? 3. The biggest question - who said XFS is better then the fixed ReiserFS regarding corruptions? I remember there was a thread about XFS lockup/race condition or something like that. Isn't it a risk to move to XFS at the time?
  12. No, you're not the only one. This household uses *nix exclusively. Like you, I went to investigate Coez Checksum, only to find it always comes with the "for Windows" text appended! http://corz.org/linux/software/checksum/ - Checksum for Linux..
  13. Anyone? Does running a parity check on my 5.0.5 server will detect corruption?
  14. OMG. I've used BTSync to sync all my data from my main server (5.0.5) to my backup/test server ( 6beta8 ). Unfortunately, I've used two-way sync. As soon as I saw this thread I've shutdown my backup server. Is there a way I can check my data on the main server to find corruptions? Thanks...

  16. "Battery Level: 75" means the server will be shutdown when UPS arrives 75% capacity, not 75% depleted. "Kill UPS: Yes" means the UPS itself will be shutdown. My guess is that due to a peak of load on the UPS during the power cut, the capacity (at least momentarily) fell below the 75% and the UPS has shutdown. Just my 2 cents, anyway...
  17. Yes it replaces the stock version. It will be removed when Dynamix is removed because it is a package installed by Dynamix. More information here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31735.0 Hi. Currently I'm using a few addons from unMenu (apcupsd, ssmtp, scheduled email notifications, monthly check, powerdown on overtemp and clean powerdown). Does your version, been installed with dynamic, replace the package I install from unMenu ? Should I stop installing the "powerdown on overtemp" from unMenu (if I read correctly in your link, dynamix has it built-in) ? Thanks If you install Dynamix you don't need to install the powerdown package from unMenu. Dynamix does all the things you are adding from unMenu. Email notifications, monthly parity check, powerdown on overtemp, and clean powerdown are all a part of Dynamix. I still use unMenu pkgs to have the option of renaming all my plugins for a clean reboot of the server (don't have a keyboard or monitor connected), so using the unMenu pkgs makes apcupsd and email notifications with clean powerdown available. My question is - if I leave my unMenu configuration as-is, does the "clean powerdown" that dynamix install replace the one installed via unmenu ? Not necessarily. It depends on the sequence of installation. This is a case of the last one there wins. The last powerdown package installed will be the active one. The best way to get around this would be to install the new script that dlandon wrote as well. It's better than the one you're getting from unMENU anyway, and if you do require support you won't have to figure out which version of the script is running/causing issues. Can you post a link to dlandon's script? Or are you referring to the one integrated into dynamix? Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk

  20. Can someone add an explanation of how to use this plugin to replace my router dhcp and dns server at home? If I understand correctly, it will enable me to start using pxe boot from my unraid. Thanks in advance

  22. It will be great if added as an option. Not everyone will be able to buy a new streamer if the current one doesn't support NFSv4

  24. Hi. Any chance of making a plugin/addon for http://www.monitorix.org/ ?
