  1. Thought this method may help others

Struggled with getting my 1050ti to pass thru. Downloaded several so called 'Compatible' vbios from TechPowerup, edited out the header but all of them failed.

The key to my success was to, build a physical pc using the 1050ti then use gpuz to dump the vbios, edit out the header info, then pass thru. This method worked flawlessly

Does it survive a reboot? I have to redump bios if I reboot.

  2. @rxnelson - Good Point, and most likely why it didn't work for me!
I had just moved my 1080 GTX from an i7 6700K based gaming rig to my Dual Xeon E5-2660 Unraid rig, and completely forgot that the Xeons don't have integrated graphics However I would be curious to know if it will work with an integrated or non-nvidia GPU?

Oh and apologies for late reply - I am not getting notifications for some reason!

Pretty sure it will work with integrated graphics. I think I had a test machine set up on a 4790K using the integrated graphics.
  3. Allegedly, from 465.xx.onwards nvidia drivers now support passthrough (GPU Passthrough), as passthrough was software hobbled in drivers to "force" upgrades/purchase of Tesla/Quadro.

However unable to passthrough EVGA 1080 GTX SC - 8GB successfully to a Win 10 VM - I czn see it in device manager but is a code 43 regardless.

Will attempt this script this week at some point if I get time.

Do you have a second GPU? Nvidia documentation still says you need two.

    From your link-
Do you need to have more than one GPU installed or can you leverage the same GPU being used by the host OS for virtualization?
One GPU is required for the Linux host OS and one GPU is required for the Windows virtual machine.
  4. Great video. I used this method to dump a 2080ti bios and it got it working. I had to use the bind vfio method and was able to get a Windows 10 VM. Everything worked great at first and the VM survived several reboots. However when I rebooted Unraid I started getting error code 43s and no drivers. I watched the other video and manually updated the xml to multifunction and changed 4 devices to the same slot but still getting the error.
Any ideas? It worked before rebooting the Unraid server.

  5. I bought those dual E5 rigs that were going for cheap some time ago.  I have been thinking of swapping that out for an AMD x570.  If I go high end I'll keep the same number of cores and threads but in a reduced form factor and probably power draw.  However, the E5s have been set it and forget it.  Any opinion on swapping to Ryzen?  I don't do a ton with it.  Sage, a test VM, Plex, not really hammering it with anything.

  6. Anyone use these for gaming or setup a bare metal pass through? I keep going back and forth on building an Unraid server and using a VM for work/gaming versus two separate machines. I have the old dual E5-2670(?) I picked up a while ago when they were cheap I set up a VM in it and tried some VR and games but it felt a little “jittery” in games and I eventually abandoned that project.

This is not an error, that's just a warning that steam isn't running, but if you think of it, why should steam run on a dedicated server.

Please post the fill log, does the container somthing after this message?

Have you installed a cache drive, also please post a picture of you docker template page.

This is a thing that i can't tell you since i'm not owning an xbox.

But this link should give you the answer: Click

Btw if you goole something don't forget to include the term: 'dedicated server' since this is a dedicated server (actually the 3rd post should link you to this forum topic :D).

That was the last bit of the log.  I think that I have it working correctly as it shows up in the LAN games when I log into Steam.  However, it appears to get the Xbox connected to it you have to run the windows store version and connect through gamertags.  Thanks for the info and links.  After some further googling it still appears that steam can only play with steam.  I found this from a gaming host.  I was hoping that most of these posts were just old info ~2018 but it still appears that crossplay is still somewhat limited.  I can still post the screenshots if  you wish but it looks like I've found my answer.

Steam Version -Windows, Steam-Linux and Steam-Mac. You “can” play together on a Steam based server.
PS4 Version – with other PS4 players or a special custom PC server, available from Studio Wildcard ‘selected’ hosting providers.
Microsoft/Xbox Version – with other Xbox players and/or those running the Windows 10 version of ARK (available in the Windows App store).

  8. I'm attempting to set up one of these for the first time using ARK.  I'm getting a message in the log at the end which makes me think it isn't working.

    Success! App '376030' fully installed.
    ---Prepare Server---
    ---Server ready---
    ---Start Server---
    [S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() failed.
Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 346110

I've googled around but can't find a silver bullet to fix this issue.  Also this being the first time trying will I be able to find this server via Xbox?

I've set up port forwarding so I don't think this is an issue.  Thanks for any help or pointing me in the right direction.

  9. For your windows VM are you stubbing out a hard drive and being able to run it bare metal like spacedinvader or do you have it running off an SSD or something?

Also not to troll but I guess I expected the 3900 to be able to surpass the 2600. I guess there is that much VM overhead or did you just configure it to be equal. I know the 2600K is still somewhat relevant. I’m still running that in my main rig now.

  10. Unraid never clears parity. Only data drives. And only if you are adding a drive to a slot that doesn't have an existing drive.

When replacing a data drive, adding or replacing a parity drive, Unraid directly writes the data that belongs, it doesn't bother clearing the drive beforehand.

The only reason a clear drive is even needed is to add a totally new data drive slot to an array with existing valid parity.

Thanks for clearing this up. Sorry for bad information. Is there something different with parity though? Maybe in the old days, like parity writes to the entire drive?
  11. Personally I view it like test driving a car. Normally it wont change your mind about the confidence level you have in it.. but the rare event it does... it pays for itself. The time and energy/stress related to having your parity drive or something out of commission while you try to get another drive to replace it is just not worth it. *(which is why you should always keep a pre-cleared drive as a spare to reduce that scenario).

I’m not disagreeing with the value of knowing if your drive is healthy but I think even if your drive is cleared Unraid will clear a parity drive.
  12. I could be mistaken but I don’t think the two are necessarily related. The CPU being pegged suggests that a transcode is occurring. Your chip has an ~8000 passmark so it should work. Are you trying to transcode 4K or something?

I’m thinking if the CPU is pegged that it would be pegged wherever your transcode location is.

  13. Is there a place to start looking for errors? I found it strange that both machines had issues around the same time. Another thread suggests looking in /var/log/nginx/error.log

Any other ways to go about pulling a diagnostic? Even after I was able to restart the GUI on the second server it was effectively hung. The shares weren’t accessible and the diagnostic wouldn’t run/download.

  14. Thanks, that worked.  Got a strange issue though, on both servers this has just recently occurred.  The first one I tried a clean powerdown from the command line but it didn't work.  After that I tried to access a share on the other server and it hung.  When I refreshed the GUI it hung.  Your instructions allowed be back into the gui but the share is now not accessible.  I'm attempting to pull diagnostics from the GUI but that seems to not be working.  Any other ideas?

  15. Anything on 6.7 or 6.8 that is built in and works or maybe better instructions if this works?  I used putty to get to the server, logged in and tried to run the commands but they weren't found.

    From the link above.

For testing purposes I swapped menus a dozen times to the extreme, but never experienced a break.

Side note: a full restart of the GUI requires "rc.nginx restart" and "rc.php-fpm restart"

(make sure all your browser sessions are closed before restarting)

  16. I followed these directions and copied my docker image to cache but I'm getting a warning now that tells me to recreate the docker.

"Your existing Docker image file needs to be recreated due to an issue from an earlier beta of Unraid 6. Failure to do so may result in your docker image suffering corruption at a later time. Please do this NOW!"

I don't think I've ran any betas of Unraid 6.  If I delete it what happens?  Do I need to go recreate them all again?

Also:  I copied the file with windows explorer.  If I change it back to the original file in the original location the message goes away.
