  1. Didn't get a chance to do it this weekend. Looks like it is pretty simple if I am reading correctly. If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.2-beta1 or higher (including 4.2.x 'final'), please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot reboot That's it?
  2. Well here is their reply. Dear customer, No matter what revision board, virtual bios is on by defaults.
  3. Thanks. Maybe I will take a look at this over the weekend. Does the fix to 4.5.6 include the huge performance increase from 4.5.3 or was that something that had to be slowed down because of the not waiting issue? Also, if you are correct none of the drives are yet "infected". I see no way in the bios to turn it "off". Have I just been lucky up to this point or something else? I emailed GB to see if they know if it was implemented with my board revision. It would seem I got the first revision first bios. I'll see what that say. It's a little unnerving to think I may be sitting on a 10TB time bomb.
  4. Everything was working as far as I knew. No time. Too much data to worry about backing up if something screwed up. Not sure any enhancements would help me. Choose any two Also when I did look at updating it always appeared there was a fix to a fix to a fix. It didn't inspire confidence. Not trying to be critical...just how it seemed.
  5. So I saw in your link there is a kernel bug that misreports the native. I am still on 4.3.3 so I think the kernel issue still applies. I didn't see anything in the bios to turn HPA off. I wonder if what another poster suggested is true and it is actually introduced with a bios update. According to that thread I should verify they all end in 168? After that keep hoping I am lucky or switch boards.
  6. So I came back to the forums after a long while to check on whether the supermicro card was still the one to get only to find that GB motherboards have this HPA issue. (Yes it's been a while.) So I did the syslog and sure enough it says HPA detected. I saw the hdparm fix (which doesn't seem to always work) and the HDAT2 tool. Are these still the best methods? I think I have the F1 bios which is a revision 1.1 I am not sure if you can disable it with an upgrade or not. Someone made reference to a FC bios but it looks like that was revision 2.0 I was tempted to try hdparm but it looks like my numbers are way off (native very large) in comparison to what everyone else is posting so I decided to just ask. I haven't really experienced any problems yet AFAIK. I haven't noticed data loss or lock-ups etc. Also I am thinking of getting this board if I can't disable HPA--Asus M4A785-M. I want to retain 6 SATA, 1 PATA, and expansion for supermicro card while reusing AMD and DDR2...any better alternatives? Oct 6 19:26:20 Tower kernel: ata2.00: HPA detected: current 3907029168, native 18446744073321613488 syslog.txt
  7. Thanks. I may try that later. I gave up on that board for now and ordered a GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 from the other post. I haven't gotten to fully test it out but it boot on the first try. That is promising. I am pretty sure I had many things turned off in the BIOS as it stood. I think the mobo was OK because I installed windows XP on it and torture tested it. Perhaps the ranking should be moved down from A- since your experience rocked and mine sucked. So from what I can tell it is 1 for 2.
  8. Don't feel bad. I am sure yours is working fine. I should have done some more research myself I guess. Currently, on 4.3.3 it is saying something like BIOS e820---then a bunch of zerson and a 1 followed by more zeros a dash more zeros 1fff more zeros (usable) I can type it all out if you think it will matter. Also, it is still exhibiting the same behavior. It did grab an IP, and I can get in the web gui for a few moments and then it drops the IP address. However I never did get to tower login prompt from the console. Do you think I could telnet into the tower and capture a syslog before it drops off the network? Would that help?
  9. ...changed to SanDisk Cruzer and it is booting again but still hanging. I guess I need to start taking some pictures and see if anyone can help me. I have yet to get to the login screen on this mobo. Strangely enough though I refreshed my router and it said it grabbed an IP. I got into the web admin for a few minutes but then it hung. This seems to be a common occurrence. Even though the boot process appears to be hung it does obtain an IP and I can get in the web admin for a few moments. Then it drops off the network.
  10. So as an update still having trouble with the board. I attempted to get back to the standard config and formatted the card added syslinux version 3.63 and unraid version 4.3.3. Now I get a "Boot Error" at the post screen and can't get past it. After an hour of messing with it I put the flash drive back into my nforce2 board and it worked. This Epox board is giving me fits.
  11. Thanks for the reply. I figured something was up. I reverted back to 4.2 since you said it didn't need the noapic option. Before I go on I will also say in desperation I also am on syslinux version 3.72. 4.2 looks like it hangs around Table [DSDT](id 0001) - 1114 Objects with 104 Devices 325 Methods 43 Regions. I did get the kernel panics with 4.1 and 4.3 that said to go to noapic option.
  12. Tried 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 beta with no luck. Although they all seems to fail/hang at different points. Any ideas? Is this the right forum for help?
  13. I bought this based on a post by Rob J thinking that I could just add noapic to the append line and be all set. Well it didn't really work out that way and I'm stuck. I fiddled with it last night adding various boot codes and still haven't had any luck. What is the next step for troubleshooting? Is there away to log the boot to the flash drive? Is just hangs and I can't do anything as far a keyboard input is concerned. Actually, it's more like a loop. When I press enter it just repeats the same process over and over and over. I am running the free version of 4.3.3. I have also tried a version of 4.2 and the beta of 4.4. I am kind of bummed because I had this running on an nforce2 board with no major booting issues.
  14. Yea...that is what I was thinking as well but it's on the list. I have an A7n8X that works but I don't trust it. It is nforce2 and had SATA corruption issues when it first came out. Currently I am still in the test phase with 3 IDE drives.
  15. This board still working for you? Just checking before I order.
  16. This what you want? 17. No wa while writing to UNRAID bounced around all over the place. It peaked at 49, hit 44 once. A couple times in thirties...etc. wa while reading from UNRAID hovered around 50. Not sure why it was different this time.
  18. writing max around 10000 KB/s, 400 KB/ss reading max around 175 KB/s, 17400 KB/ss That help any?
  19. on writing the three numbers were around 13000, 270, 813000 on reading the three numbers were around 120, 11700, and 811000 wa on writing went up to 34 once wa on reading stayed at zero.
  20. OK...found one of your other posts with a screen shot. I have it running now I think. Just start transferring and tell you what I get? I have eth0 which bounces all over the place when I transfer a file. There are three columns. Just tell me what to do and what to report thanks.
  21. OK more stupid questions. Should the file be located on the flash or on the hard drives? Can I do it from a telnet session? Do I need to get to a certain directory first? Sorry......all new to me.
  22. OK I got the bwm-ng but haven't been able to figure out how to run it. I tried to use installpkg and I think it told me it doesn't end in .tgz Directions for dummys?
  23. syslog attached Switch should be OK. In windows I can transfer about a gig a minute? I am linux/unix retarded. I will have to find out what bwm-ng is and how to install. Thanks.
  24. I am still toying with the free version. The main use for this is going to be video storage so I am testing specifically for stuttering. When I use the onboard 100mb NIC of my A7N8X mobo I can write to "disk2" while watching a movie from "disk1" without stutter. I had a 1000mb realtec NIC I swapped in and I can't do the same. The movie stutters. I then bought an Intel NIC thinking it was a driver issue but have the same results. Any ideas?
