  1. Oh awesome! thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have run into just one hitch though. I want one line of the script to complete first before it moves to the next. For instance I want share A and B to sync using rsync before I empty Share A to the usb backup. In ubuntu, I use "wait %%" between rsync jobs to achieve that but that command is somehow messing up unraid and its not running the script. Any suggestions?
  2. I am looking to backup some shares from my server to a usb drive which I will connect as an unassigned drive to the array. How can I cron a script to run automatically and copy the data from the array to the drive? I have a script ready but I am just not share where to copy it for unraid to execute it and how to cron it like I normally would on a linux machine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  3. i can schedule it but it doesnt allow me to pick days/dates/times etc.. i get a drop down for picking weekly/daily/monthly etc and when i click apply, it says schedule applied. perhaps i need to choose the custom schedule? if so will you be kind enough to provide the guidelines around the format it expects the information in?
  4. I am using the vm backup script, is there anyway to schedule what time it runs? I don't see any option to schedule a time for it? Also is there any option to delete older backups? thanks
  5. Anybody? Would be great if someone can point me I. The right direction to get the server to get its up from the bridge thanks
  6. Thats exactly what I am looking to do. Can you describe how you did that? I have two nics and I am passing one to pfsense completely for WAN but I want the second one not only bridged to the physical unraid box so it can have network connectivity, but to my network switch as well. Sounds identical to how you have yours setup. If you have any step by step guide on how you accomplished this, please share, I'll be much obliged. thanks
  7. I am trying to run pfsense in a vm on my unraid box with two nics. I want to pass both to pfsense. Since I don' t have a physical third network interface, is it possible that unraid can connect to the network using a network bridge? I know the vms are on br0 but I am not sure if the host machine can connect to it as well. Is is something like that possible at all?
  8. They are just laptop disks and this is just for home use, serving files, running backups, etc. I have the server running some vms but they reside on a cache ssd. Seagate 3TB BarraCuda 5400 RPM 128MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Laptop Internal Hard Drive ST3000LM024 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-179-106
  9. Is there a noticeable difference in performance between the two types? i have a a couple of 3TB, 2.5 in 5400 rpm drive that I want to use for a new install but not sure if performance would take a hit. Thoughts?
  10. I am storing the vms on the cache drive. I am worried in the event of a cache dr failure, I would lose them. Will I be able to recover them from the parity drive?
  11. I can't. It's a WD passport for laptops, and I looked the innards don't have the sata connector. I guess I could try pluggIng it in but will there be a hit on the performance?
  12. I have a USB 3.0 drive 3TB sitting idle in my study and I was wondering if I could use it as a parity drive on my unraid server. So: 1) is it possible? 2) if so, is there any downside to using a USB dr instread of SATA or PCIE?
  13. Hi all, I am a novice at this stuff, so please pardon if my question sounds silly. I am am running a firewall and dhcp in a vm in unraid and I want the unraid server Ip assigned by the vm. This is on a test machine with just one nic, but I do have a smart switch where I have the isp modem and the server plugged in using vlan tags. so what I am trying to do, is that possible at all? If so, what sort of network configuration will I need to make?thanks
  14. Newbie here, please go easy on me. What is the best way to backup my unraid server using crashplan? I am looking to save the configuration, VMs, appdata, basically everything unraid except the shares which I am already backing up using a different utility. I am looking for a complete backup solution, example: if there is a fire and the hardware is all melted, what folders/data will i need to rebuild and restore my server? The folders I see in the Crashplan UI are Backup Config Core Data Home Lib64 media mnt ( This is all the disks and shares) nobody root run unassigned Thanks for your help..
