  1. hi thanks for the reply thats great thank you
  2. hi all, i have a question hopefully you can answer. i am currently migrating all my data offsite and therefore will be retiring my server, however when i come to sell this i understand the licence for unraid pro is not transferrable, so i am looking to utilise this in a little NUC i am going to use for sonarr, nzb stuff and a couple of VMs, i aim to use an MSI cubi which has space for both an mSATA and normal SATA drive, so i was going to put 2 x 512 ssds in the box. however i am not really bothered about backup or parity so just want a single drive for storage (which would be temp until it gets moved off the box) and another disk as a cache drive to store vms and docker. i know i could do this with a normal linux distro but i like the simplicity of unraid and using web console for configuration etc but appreciate im not going to be using it for its primary intended purpose, plus its a waste of over £100 for software i wont use anymore so do i need a parity drive if i dont care about whats on my single storage drive. would i be better just using slot 1 and slot 2 of the array for the disks (any advantage to using the cache drive) i dont use mover and at the moment i dont use cache for anything apart from storing vms and docker as its an ssd over spinny drives in my array
  3. Hi all i am after some help hope you can help, i have rclone running on an ubuntu VM with rclonebrowser (great bit of software) that means i can upload to my ACD, I am hosting some files on there that i would like to play on plex, at the moment i have the same ubuntu vm playing them through plex server which is working ok but seems a little slow to start to play both local and networked files. i have a beefy i7 and 32gb ram and am sharing 4 cores and 8gb for my vm which is on an SSD. i understand there will be a delay in playing but is there any way i can mount my acd drive which is unencrypted so plex can see it and play the contents, ive tried to do this via terminal on SSH but i keep getting fuse errors which i dont get on my linux disto, i just want a read only mount point i can place in mnt/disks/acd but it refuses to play ball, is there something i am missing, i noticed the rclone plugin has some mount point setups but ive tried that too and cannot really find any info from the rclone site apart from how to do it manually in linux which woulds on my vm! i would prefer to keep unraid running with plex as a plugin, instead of having a dedicated vm running it. thanks all in advance
  4. hi thanks for the reply, luckily i had the list of contents so if i cant recover i could redownload and restore.
  5. hi all, i use dolphin to manually do some tidying up, i was removing two empty folders and must of had the parent folder selected as well and now its gone.........and deleted everything on the drive what would be the best way to recover, can i pull the drive and put it in a linux machine etc, its xfs partitioned. thanks all in advance.
  6. i agree about the board but now i am using a lot more resources on unraid, it doesnt seem to have the grunt i need now. im finding that when plex is in full swing with several users along with all my vms etc, im seeing slowdowns with stuff in general. also being an ITX size board, there is not much room for upgrades as far as pci expansion goes. i spent a while looking into the options when i upgraded and heard a lot of good things about it, i was toying with the idea of freenas before i got it and was told some of the sata controllers didnt play nice with BSD but ive been happy with it on the whole. i didnt go down the server and array case route due to the cooling and noise as my server is in my office. ive had a nas in one shape or another for about 10/11 years, starting with windows then moving onto ubuntu server then more customised builds such as omv and ive tried amahi, but i love unraids simplicity and docker support is great. ive not had a drive die yet to test out the recovery (touch wood!)
  7. sorry i meant cards that are sas/sata as my drives are sata similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/KALEA-INFORMATIQUE-Controller-SATA-8-ports-RAID-10-MEGARAID-9217-8i-Microsoft/dp/B01ETCAMF2/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1483446485&sr=8-19&keywords=8+x+sata
  8. Hi all i am looking to move away from my current setup as it is no longer meeting my needs. i have an asrock c2750 with a octocore atom CPU. im going to move away from this to a much more powerful setup, the one question i have is i currently use all 12 sata ports on the board plus a 4 x sata pci adapter and am looking to go with a gaming board and put a couple of SAS cards in for my 16 drives with adapters plus whatever is onboard, (prob six satas) i would prob go with the 16 spinny drives on the two SAS cards (none raid) and use say 4 x 480gb ssd drives satas as cache and 2 x ssd unassigned drives for VMs and docker images etc. I would look to expand this at a later date using additional raid cards. should it be pretty painless to move my array over? ive rebuilt my unraid box before and its been a breeze but as im moving away from hardware i know works to the unknown. i was wondering if i would have any issues with the array, is there any raid cards i need to particularly stay away from or come recommend for unraid with minimal fuss, i did buy an LSI one that refused to work with OMV in my days prior to unraid so that put me off a little. thanks as always in advance for your advice/replies
  9. ok ive just created a test folder in unraid and told it on disk 1 only called test, i then moved a file from a folder on disk 12 to the usershare test and it has done the same thing. so it seems that unless i tell unraid to exclude disks, it writes where it wants to ( on both occasions on the same drive that the original file is located) i keep my data seperated on the actual disks so its not a huge pool of space that anything sits anywhere, maybe i shouldnt do this but its more of a failsafe as i have a pnt list every week reporting the contents of each disk so if i lose the parity drive and another disk, i know whats on it to replace from my backups. should i move files and folders only on a disk to disk level and not user level to avoid these problems as i think this will help I am going to load krusader to see if this is a dolphin issue or not as this is how i move stuff around.
  10. hi thanks for that, but the point i was making is movies = disk 1 2 3 4 only and not anything else. downloads = disk 5 only moving folders from the user share download to user share movies creates a folder on disk 5 called movies? why is this happening? its like the exclude disks if not selected over rules the selected disks. if i exclude the disks, it does as it should and fill up disks 1-4
  11. forgot to mention, i do not use the cache disk for anything apart from VM and docker so there is no mover tasks being completed.
  12. hi all quick question, i have a folder in my user shares called downloads, its actually hosted on disk 5 of my array and set to fill up, no cache drive used. my movies user folder is set to user disk 1,2,3,4 and most free, when i move a folder/file from the downloads folder to my movies folder, it doesnt actually move it to the movies share, it creates a folder called movies on disk 5 and includes this in the movies user share. i have confirmed this by browsing the disk folders in dolphin. i got around this before by ticking exclude all my disks when creating a share. i was told not to do this and the lifering system check advises not to do this either, but if i dont, my shares seem to write to where they want to and not sticking to the rules of only using the disks i set in the share. hope this makes sense the way i have explained it
  13. Thanks Groxypod for this Plex is now playing everything it should be although i didnt need to do anything with the key, just copy and paste the link in again one thing though. i took a snapshot of my old pen image to i can investigate the issue.
  14. I would like to know this too. I am having issues with Plex not being able to play back files and I tried reformatting my cache drive to remove the docker image and appdata folder and it still does not work properly. There has to be some kind of residual configuration folder outside of the appdata folder that unRAID is holding on to. Even after adding the plex docker again I am greeted by users in my plex home on the configuration page of plex. How does this happen on a newly installation of Plex? This is because users etc are linked to your actual plex account on the web, go to plex.tv and login. you will find you can add and remove users etc without having a server attached. also if you find issues with multiple servers in the list that you connect to, then click on them and remove them in the web page, them when you log into plex on any device, it doesnt show all the failed/old/ servers
  15. ive tried multiple browsers and even tried it on a browser on a new vm to rule out he possibility of cached pages or data. so just to confirm plex server will play audio both in browser and some devices (cannot confirm them all but) amazon fite TV, amazon fire tv stick, roku 3, custom boxes with openelec plex on, mac mini with PHT, and they all get this same issue. transcoding is going to the cache drive via the docker settings. the only thing other that wiping the config on the unraid pen and starting again would be to downgrade PMS to a much earlier version as it may be specific to the docker image (im using linuxservers) however my original q of data integrity, how would this work if my usb pen died and i needed another (once i have a new licence key etc, how do i go about imported existing data drives and keep the structure of my user shares.
