  1. I keep trying to connect counchpotato but I get a connection failed error. I do have the allow remote connections option enabled as well as user name and password defined in auth file like e.g. in first post. Any help would be appreciated. I can connect to the webui without problems. Also how do i change the default password?
  2. Hi All, I have the following: https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/keyboards/sculpt-ergonomic-desktop/l5v-00001 It is a Keyboard, mouse, and num pad that works with the computer through the USB receiver. I have the usb port in which the receiver is plugged pass-through to the windows 8.1 machine however the mouse/keyboard stop responding if i don't continously move the mouse around (in this case they work fine); If i leave the mouse alone for 5 seconds, it will stop responding. I don't know if this has to do with windows trying to manage the power of the port, or the receiver disconnecting, or the device losing connection but i haven't had this issue when i plug the receiver into the desktop with windows running natively. Here is how it comes under USB devices: Bus 001 Device 008: ID 045e:07a5 Microsoft Corp. Any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
  3. I decided to forgo the sound card route and ordered a hdmi to rca converter to connect the HDMI sound from GPU to my 5.1 system. Hopefully that should do the trick and get me working audio in my VM. In the meantime fingers crossed that eventually on-board audio will work for pass-through so I can use with another VM.
  4. I found a "system pulled" LSI controller for 15 dollars (brand new costs 115). It is from server supply. They offer a one year warranty for an additional 20 bucks. I guess $35 for a 2xSAS to 8 X SATA is a better investment as I could potentially re-purpose it in the future for another box.
  5. Thanks for your reply and input Jon. The third option you mentioned, passing the entire storage controller, wouldn't that result in all hard drives attached to that storage control to get passed through as well? In my current setup, I have 3 hard drives (cache, 2 storage) along with the optical drive connected to the SATA ports on-board the motherboard. I have a HBA for my other hard drives that are being used by unRAID. So I guess option 3 wouldn't be viable in my case?
  6. Yes, luckily I order most of my electronics from Amazon and they have a very customer friendly return service (only down-side is the bit expensive return shipping, $10 most of the time regardless of item cost). Do you have any recommendations for a sound card that is known to work for pass-through setup? I did check out the ubuntu thread; the down side is, it disables USB ports and without knowing which ones it would disable I would use keyboard/mouse for my VMs.
  7. So I got the sound card, installed it in the system. No matter what I did, the sound card was grouped with another PCI-e to PCI slot in terms of groupings. I edited syslinux.cfg and added the PCI ids for stubbing out pci-ids.stub=1b21:1080,13f6:8788 to the line with append and before the initrd=/bzroot here are the devices: 07:00.0 PCI bridge [0604]: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1083/1085 PCIe to PCI Bridge [1b21:1080] (rev 04) 08:04.0 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] [13f6:8788] and IOMMU groupings: /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/19/devices/0000:07:00.0 /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/19/devices/0000:08:04.0 I rebooted the system and was able to see the sound card available under PCI devices. I assigned it to the Windows 10 VM. Update. Click start for VM and I got the following error: internal error: early end of file from monitor, possible problem: 2016-10-13T16:13:46.140484Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=08:04.0,id=hostdev2,bus=pci.0,addr=0x9: vfio: Error: Failed to setup INTx fd: Device or resource busy 2016-10-13T16:13:46.173133Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=08:04.0,id=hostdev2,bus=pci.0,addr=0x9: Device initialization failed Do I need to edit the XML manually and assign both devices to the VM manually? I thought as long as I stub them out, I can assign one and leave other one unassigned? I tried assigning the other PCI device to the VM as well and got the following error: Failed to bind PCI device '0000:07:00.0' to vfio-pci: No such device Note: nothing is plugged into the PCI slot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Never mind; tried this; doesn't work.
  9. So I have been doing reading around, will PCI-e stubbing work for this? Can I stub out the PCI-e address for onboard audio like below: pci-stub.ids={pci address} Thanks!
  10. I would love to know how to do this, as well as what would be the negative impact of doing this?
  11. Thanks Johnnie for the reference; much appreciated. Well looks like the road is not completely dark; so there is some possibility of using onboard audio with Skylake? Is that something that is in the works?
  12. Hi, I would like that uNRAID support Optical drives 100%; currently in 6.3.0-rc1, my windows VM can see, open the optical drives but the moment any interactions are started with the files on the drive the system hangs. This is a must-feature for users looking to burn movies from their collections for road-trips (i don't think anyone wants to burn through their data to watch multiple children's cartoons) or archival for backup (back-up server is still an electronic machine that can go down/fail etc.; I trust my archival blue-rays to hold contents that I can access). Thanks!
  13. Oh, ok. Now I follow you. So you are saying it was working before and now it isn't? well I am not sure what processor you are using as I believe that has impact as well. If you have it working on a Skylake cpu than i would be very much interested in downgrading to that version. I am new to unRAID so don't know much about previous versions. I started with 6.3.0-rc1. Thanks!
  14. Well I am on Skylake and I am not saying it is a bug but more the limitation of my processor where it isn't allowing separation of that group and hence I can't pass it through. Realizing this limitation I ordered a sound card but some responded stating that the one I ordered (or at least previous generations of it) have been known to not work well hence I am seeking suggestions on what is a good sound card to use for pass-through (via PCI/PCI-e). The second option was using the HDMI audio from graphics card but I need some sort of a HDMI Audio to 5.1 splitter (with ability to plug in 3.5mm cables coming from my 5.1 audio system).
  15. I have the following 5.1 system, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VAK1FA/, Logitech Z506 Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System. The cables it came with are RCA to 3.5mm for my on-board audio. My mobo has 5.1 audio built in. My existing receiver is old and doesn't work out of the box with this. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations? or should I return this 5.1 system and buy another? I did a new build and bought these as part of it.
