  1. Bump - anyone able to shed some light on this? Also seeing inability to write on some shares that are clear set to read/write.
  2. Done. tower-diagnostics-20170621-1234.zip
  3. Sorry for the slow reply, life is pretty hectic. Just found the place for the diagnostics, and have a zip. Whats the preferred method for making them available? Just attach zip? Post contents of specific files? Cheers
  4. Hi Hoping i have missed something obvious, or this is a pebcak moment, but it seems straight forward. I have a number of shares that are clearly set private. I have a number of users, with passwords, assigned to these shares with read/write. The shares a repeatedly available to anyone on the network without being promoted for credentials. I just spun up a windows brand new VM on the network (not on the unraid box) and pointed it to the shares, and was immediately able to browse them. There are shares i simply dont want available to anyone on the LAN. I have had to remove them all. Any common 'gotchas' here? Am i missing something stupid? Thanks
  5. @gridrunner - yeah, this whole homelab thing is going a bit nuts. Dual hex core Xeons 96GB RAM on the machine that has my virtualized unraid, an R710 2 x 4 core Xeons part of the ESXi cluster - might put barebones unraid on this. And now have a second 4U chassis to build in as I just upgraded to Norco 4224, which is now full....it never ends lol And like you, i started with a HP Microserver (trusty old N40L) - tiny little thing that now sits in the corner looking for a new use. I never knew how exactly i wanted to arrange all my storage needs, but with the features, and flexibility of unraid, there is nothing quite like it. And i dont even run any of the VM features. Unraid really is very flexible. I have a range of drive capacities, and interface types (SAS/SATA) and unraid runs quite happily. Good times. I love this stuff
  6. Thanks folks Must say, its the best software i have bought in a good long while. Shall i send Limetech the invoice for all the hardware that 'you made me buy' since migrating? I'd be keen to see what its like on bare metal, but i jumped straight into a virtualized unraid install, and even that 'just works'. Or maybe i'll need another damn license to run up a second instance I have been lurking here a while, its a good community, really quite helpful. Another contributing factor to my jumping aboard.
  7. Not really a pre-sales question as such, more a comment towards potential customers and Limetech. I just bit the bullet and bought the full pro license of unraid. Just so folks know, it was LTT that put it on my radar, but it was SpaceInvaderOnes youtube videos that sealed the deal. His guides are great, and certainly made the difference between me dipping my toes in the water, and my straight up committing 32TB of my storage to your product. I love Unraid so far, but in terms of getting new users up to speed with information that matters, and is well delivered, he does a stellar job. And i'd wager i am not the only person that would say the same. I consider myself an expert at hardware, and using software generally, and his videos were still massively helpful. Anyone who is doing a trial with unraid, i'd absolutely recommend looking him up on youtube. So for any folks that work at Limetech, this is just a new user flagging his contribution to your product. And no, I dont know or associate with him Cheers Oxxy
  8. Just like to stop by and thank those that helped me again, learned a bit. Just did a reinstall with a new trial using a permanent email address, and a newer high quality flash drive. Added all my data drives (minus cache and parity for now) and all my data is back there and working properly. Installing plugins now too. I'll make a purchase off this trial, and at least if i need support, it will be associated with my new email Cheers folks.
  9. Found why i couldnt access the web frontend, i had changed the MTU to 9000, and when i migrated to the new flash drive, it stopped working Switched back to 1500 and can see what i am doing again.
  10. Back again, sorry for slow reply - work is,....busy To be clear - I am running this virtually. And what i meant by no GUI, is that i started unraid, and was viewing it via a console window in ESXi, i chose the boot option as GUI When it boots, i can login, but firefox cant connect - just sits there trying local host. Unfortunatly my time (and ability) to troubleshoot this is limiited. I can see traffic in and out of the host with wireshark, and can ping just find. Its just like the whole front end has dissappeared. The new flash drive is just me being careful, got a faster, newer one. Given my install is tied to that hardware. I think i might have to just completely start again with a new flash drive, and new trial with a different email address. Seems to be a bit faster? I'd certainly be worried if i ran into this in a 'production' install. At the moment all my data on unRaid is still on the original box as well. Had considered just using Windows server storage spaces as an alternative.
  11. Ok, copied it across to a brand new flash drive, same trial install. Cant access it via GUI (nothing at local host), can ping the server. But thats about it. Tried in safe mode, then back to normal mode. I am pretty good at this stuff usually, but honestly - i am endlessly strapped for time now. I really wanted something that was somewhat forgiving. I just cant afford to spend hours mucking around to get this going, or keep it going Even though the good folks here are indeed helpful If this is tied to my email for whatever reason, i really should just be able to change my email in the GUI. And yes i know the reasons for tying it to a flash drive, but honestly, its a bit of a pita too..... Sorry, probably a bit over tired, looong days at work are killing me
  12. Thanks for the prompt reply. I know the GUID is the most important thing, but I'd like to change the email that's associated with it. So that seems to mean a new flash drive. So i can just set up a new flash drive with a new trial, go through the setup, and import my disks? Assuming i can, then i'd just pay for my registration with the new key?
  13. Thanks for the replies So if i have trouble in the future and need to prove i am me, but i have lost access to the email my original trial was tied to, it might be problematic? There is always a chance a flash drive might fail. If i wanted to be risk adverse, whats the best way out of this? I have about 48 hours before trial expires - i take it I have to reinstall everything from a new trial associated with a different email, and then upgrade that?
  14. Hi I have three days left of trial and might bite the bullet. At least so i can muck around with it for a while longer even if i don't stick with it. I registered my trial with an email address belonging to an ISP i am going to leave, so eventually i am going to lose access to this address. When i purchase my paid license, is it tied to that email? Can i change my email? What are, if there are any, issues i'll face if i buy a key, using a trial registered to an email I'll no longer have access to? Cheers !
  15. Thanks for the replies and input folks I think if i purchase I'd go with dual parity if I implement parity at all. As for seeing everything as one volume, it would take some getting used to - i have been using one drive per purpose for a long time Think once i started using it for a bit i would get used to it. For now, renovations have destroyed nearly all of my trial period, and now i am four days into my extension and only just got drives pre-cleared and shares / plex setup. Need to make the most of what time i have left!
  16. Hi folks I know there are a lot of 'is unRaid for me' threads, but mine might be a little different... I am running dual hex core Xeons, and 96GB of RAM, with an ESXi 6.0 install. As part of this i have virtualized unRaid to give it a go - and debating my need for it (was about to buy a key but then paused). I am passing a USB controller through for the unRaid flash drive, and 2 x LSI9211's for the drives. I am on a trial of unRaid, and it virtualized just fine. What i want - At the moment, my storage / media server is a separate Win 10 i7 box, and i want it virtualized so i am not running an extra machine 24x7. Its about consolidation. I guess i am asking if there is much of a point in my use case (assuming i have to keep ESXi on the bare metal) if there is much of a point in me running unRaid instead of say, Server 2012, or even Ubuntu or Win 7 as a VM with all the required drives assigned? I'll play devils advocate - The cases for NOT needing or using unRaid... I am diligent with backups, so not sure if i want or need a parity drive (one of the selling points of unRaid). Not having it is certainly an option for me. Dockers are great, but in Win/Linux i can just install whatever i want anyway - plex, sabnzbd etc. Anything at all. I am totally dependent on the community for unRaid 'apps'? Can run HDsentinel or some such to monitor SMART info, which is what i do now to keep an eye on the health of the drives. If i stay with NTFS/EXT4 i can yank any drive at any time (power down first), easily add or remove data without worrying about zeroing a drive, or building parity (assuming i use it) Additionally i can pop any drive for whatever reason into another computer if i wanted or needed to. Especially if a drive might start failing or what have you, an unRaid drive outside of unRaid is useless? Given i am virtualizing unRaid, GUI is a little slower (no biggie, just of note) This is on an ESXi host - so i dont need unRaid passthrough or VMs - one of the other compelling reasons for using unRaid EDIT - i used deluge with PIA VPN, i know deluge works, but cant see for certain if PIA would (more of a question i guess). Certainly PIA VPN works just fine on Win VM I get if i was running unRaid on bare metal, things would be different (and it seems simply great for that). But on the premise i cant lose the ESXi host - is there anything i am missing? Why would i run unRaid in my use case? Appreciate any input Thanks folks Oxxy
  17. How is the LSI 9211 generally with unraid in JBOD? I just joined the forum and this post caught my attention. Anyone else have good or bad feedback? I have been reading conflicting reports from all sorts of sources - i'll start searching here now too.
