  1. Hello, Am looking into building a new NAS running unRAID but this new one will have 24 bays, Am looking around for a Raid card 2x 12 port or one single 24 port card, which is the best brand to buy ? Also does unRAID support Raid cards or do they need something to configure them. Kind Regards Fat Guy

  3. Hello, I want to format my unRAID server eg start from strach, i have moved all my data over to another storage device, is it as simple as taking the usb drive out formatting it following the same steps as before and putting my licence key back on ? or is there something i need to do with the drives before i do the above the step ? any help would be great Thanks

  7. hello everyone I have managed to get the OpenVPN working I had to go into settings>network Settings, and swap from bonding to none and remove use bridge and i saved started the array reinstalled the docker and BOOM now able to access the webgui without error. then i followed the remaining steps on the video and got it working, i just need to follow the step for SSL next Happy Nassing
  8. Hi I have followed this video (brilliant videos BTW) i have followed it through to the end. I ran into a issue right at the start were i was unable to access the WebGui i unstalled the docker and reinstalled with network type selected as Bridge instead of Host, But i am still unable to connect to the VPN. when i am in admin for the openVPN and i have selected Server Network Settings i dont have my unraid server ip next to eth0 i seem to have the docker ip instead whould this pervent me from connecting correctley ? any advice would be great as i only have 12 days left before i decide if am going to buy unraid if i cant get this working i might look into buying a QNAP which i really dont want to do but i need to be able to access my NAS from out side of my network. 10. Hi is the Intel PWLA8391GTL not a 1gbe ? would that not be the same speeds as your getting now, unless am totally missing something eg your bonding 2 together or something ? would a 10Gbe setup be better like the one below i got posted http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SET-2x-long-HP-671798-10GbE-Cisco-2-5m-10Gbit-10Gbase-Ethernet-10Gigabit-10G-/152323217727?hash=item23772bd93f:g:PLUAAOSwJQdW~V5c thanks
  11. Hi for storage and a really good price go for the DS380 case it has 8 Bays and 3 or think 4 could be wrong 2.5 bays for SSD's brilliant to be used as a cache pool http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=452 Happy Nassing

    Transfer Speeds

Hi thanks for the quick replies My NAS is a very basic setup atm and it does have a SSD drive 128G as a cache drive, i transferred 180g last night to a new share i setup and it did not drop below 108mb/s what other steps do i need to take ? am not two fuzzy about getting top end transfer speed of 1.2gb/s but anything around 400 to 800 would be great thanks for the link to the 10gbe parts. the new NAS will have 2 m.2 SSD's which will have alot higher write/read speeds thanks for reading Happy Nassing

    Transfer Speeds

Hi Thanks for the replies everyone, So the way to go is 10Gbe . so i need 2 SFP NIC cards ? one in server and the other in the pc ? to obtain better speeds then 112mb/s ? Thanks Pontey Happy Nassing
  15. Hello everyone I have a basic NAS setup, I can transfer upto 112mb/s avg constant. I plan on setting up a new NAS very soon, and looking at a board with dual Ethernet connections so i can bound them together to get higher transfer speeds. I have a basic router which my ISP provided with only 4 ports on the back. Would i need a switch and then configure 2 ports to bound and then would my pc need 2 ports to in bound mode as well ? to get the speeds ? Am not sure on what hardware i need to get higher speeds any advice would be great thanks Thanks for reading Happy Nassing
  16. Everything else doesn't store on cache. Each user share can be configured to use cache or not. Files written to array disks will never use cache. If you save your torrents on a user share that is configured to use cache, then they will stay on cache until they are closed and then moved on schedule. Mover will not move open files. I watched a video the other day that explained that putting a SSD cache drive in helps with transfer speeds eg putting the files your transferring to cache first then the "mover" moves them later. If i was to put a cache drive in do i need to enable this ? eg to write to the cache first then the server moves it to the array later or is this enabled by default if the server has a cache drive / my setup is a Parity drive 1 2TB drive and a 128g SSD for cache - if i take the cache drive out would the transfer speeds drop as its writing to the parity drive instead of SSD first ? thanks for reading Happy Nassing
  17. Hello everyone, I am very close to building my new unRAID Server. I want to use a UPS attached to it so in the event that the power goes dead, the UPS can make the server shut down correctly. My question is - Are there any UPS devices which unRAID support in regards to shutting the server down if main power goes down Are there plugins to install to help support UPS's ? etc... Thanks for reading, Pontey Happy Nassing
  18. Forgot to mention is it best for me to use a static IP instead of setting up a DDNS on dyn dns as a tracker ? when setting up the vpn
  19. Hi Squid Just like to say brilliant work on the community appliactions plugin and the other apps you have created, i have the up most respect for you. I really like unRAID got my self a basic server, basic hardware less then 400 pounds spent, this is just a test server for me to get a feel for unRAID eg to try everything out shares, VMs etc... been watching a tone of videos. I want my friend to access a share from the NAS but i cant find any step by step guides on this or videos, I have been told the way to go is ownCloud/NextCloud which once setup i can have my friend install the desktop app and access the cloud and sync it with a folder on his machine, is this possible ? I have looked into DDNS and port forwarding etc... even this thread relates to me trying to edit the config.php to add my public ip "here is the video" - around 13.50 into the video related to this thread I have been looking into setting this up for 3 weeks now most evenings watching videos reading forums etc... with no luck, it could be am looking in the wrong place maybe, is there a plugin or app to help access the cloud out of the network eg from my friends home ? I have been "dare i say it" looking at a QNAP system as the "accessing files remotely" wizard/setup looks easy to setup, but i really dont want to move away from unRAID i like the community and the software. I plan on building a very expensive server around 48TB to 60TB with 20 cores for VM's etc.. dockers etc... but i dont want to spend the money if there is no method of accessing files remotely. Please help - i have got as far as installing ownCloud thanks for taking the time to read this. Thanks Pontey Happy Nassing Personally how I do this is have the open vpn docker running and I have my friends set up as users on unraid so they have access to what I give them access to. A reverse proxy of next cloud etc should also do the trick but it's not something I'm familiar with. Best bet would be to ask in the appropriate support thread and odds on CHBMB will help you out. Sent from my SM-T560NU using Tapatalk Hi I think your right, i setup a docker running openvpn last night just need to set it up now think this is the route am going to take thanks for your help on this Pontey Happy Nassing
