Docker Safe New Permissions - What does it do?
I bit the bullet and hit the button. It's going through now. On initial inspection, it seems to have fixed some problems I was having in a shared share (among two assigned users) such that now, they can both edit documents in the share (before they couldn't). OP on that is here: Too bad the tool doesn't let you pick which share to apply this to so it's easier to test. Thanks!

Docker Safe New Permissions - What does it do?
Fair enough. Anything I copy from my Mac to my user folder gets: --rw-r--r-- me users My Time Machine backup has a sparsebundle that's set: drwx--S--- 1 me users Inside the sparesbundle is the "bands" directory where all the data is stored. Each of the bands looks like this: -rw------- me users This is how unRAID seems to default all of these things. I haven't changed any permissions by hand.

Docker Safe New Permissions - What does it do?
So if I run this, is there any chance that it screws up access to user data for any of my users? I know it doesn't touch APPDATA, and I know what it says about Couch, Sonarr, Sick, etc. but none of the files I'm moving with unBALANCE are from those apps. I want to move a Time Machine backup from one drive to another with unBALANCE and unBALANCE says I should run this permissions fix first. Is there any risk in running a permissions fix?

Oh I have. What I want is more information on how these default permissions affect user shares. Like, if I send a file to an SMB share from a logged in user, are these the same permissions that the OS would have set? What are the repercussions of running this tool? Can any user access to files be damages by doing this? You know, a discussion on the tool. Was there never anything like that published when the tool was made? Like there's a page for CA AutoUpdate ( ) etc.

That's the tool itself. Where do I find info about what it does, etc.? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Where do I find info on Docker Safe Fix Permissions? I understand that this is installed as part of CA but it's not listed in the OP post at the top of this thread.

But what about for regular user shares?

Docker Safe New Permissions - What does it do?
Hi! I'm trying to use the unBALANCE plug in which is telling me that before I complete the operation I have in mind, I should run Docker Safe New Permissions (which is installed as part of CA). I would like to know: 1. What does "Docker Safe New Permissions" do? 2. Is it safe for my data and why? 3. Why would permissions on user data ever need to be fixed? Thanks!

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
If anyone here switches clients to a different docker supplier (like jlesage), and if you've increased your java memory to handle more files by double-clicking on the top right icon and entering new java memory settings in your previous client (like gfjardim) don't forget to do it with the new client, too! (If you don't know what I'm referring to, here's the article where I got the original idea to increase my java memory since my backup kept restarting: https://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/4/Troubleshooting/Adjust_CrashPlan_settings_for_memory_usage_with_large_backups)

Gotcha. I just added a new mapping to the docker where /mnt inside the docker matched /mnt outside it. I don't know why I did that originally, but I did. Oh well.

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
So a few questions: If I'm using the other client docker, is there any means to simply switch dockers? That is, what happens if I turn this current docker off and start up the other one? Are my choices in folders to backup (backup set?) stored on the CrashPlan server and synced to the connected client or will the Jlesage version not know what I'm backing up? If I use the Jlesage version and re-pick the same folders, will CrashPlan compare these to what's stored on the server and update the backup accordingly/seemlessly? Sorry to ask these questions, but I'm not familiar enough with how CrashPlan does its thing. I answered my own questions: I stopped the gfjardim docker. Installed and started the jlesage docker. Logged into CrashPlan PRO in the docker. Chose to "adopt" an existing computer and picked the computer in the list that was being backed up from the previous docker. Et voila. Note: If you have mapped your unRAID storage to anything besides /storage in the your previous CrashPlan docker (I had mine mapped to /mnt) then make sure you do that when you install the jlesage docker. If you don't, I don't think that CrashPlan will let you adopt the old backup (or if it does, I'm not sure how it will handle it.) Thanks!

So @Djoss now that I've update the gfjardim docker to Pro, what happens if I need to rebuild my docker down the road, say a year from now? Will it just work to reinstall the docker from Apps? When you update yours, are you saying that yours will be Pro to begin with? (Timeline?)

I migrated with the gfjardim CrashPlan docker. It worked like a charm. Unfortunately, I can't reboot my system to test anything else for you.

So I bit the bullet and, at least for now, migrated to CrashPlan Small Business / Pro. It was pretty painless. My largest backup is 2.2 TB compressed so the conversion was a cinch. The app inside the unRAID docker container switched to the blue Pro version and kept on doing what it was doing.

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
Yeah, but regardless of the CrashPlan plans themselves, we must have an unRAID compatible docker application, or CrashPlan is out. Honestly, with Backblaze B2 pricing as good as it is, and the CloudBerry Backup client working so nicely as an unRAID docker, I'm probably just going to go that way. B2 isn't as cheap as CrashPlan of course, but it's not what I would call expensive (where Amazon S3 Standard is expensive).

[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
I've tested and it restores nicely to /tmp (inside the container). But, how do I make /storage r/w for the container? This would be necessary in the case of a larger, needed restore. (I can't seem to find a setting in the Edit screen of the docker. I'm pretty new to dockers.)

[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
Ahhhhhh. I never thought of that.

[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
So I've tested CBB (your container, @Djoss) and I can backup from my unRAID box and restore to my Mac (with Mac client) from the same backup set (making sure that the "prefix" is set the same). I'm testing using a free B2 account. However, I can't restore back to my unRAID box. Ever. In the same location or another location. The restore always fails. Any ideas?

[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
Odd that the how-to videos on their website show it as a separate service. I'll probably go with B2 if I go the CBB route, anyway.

[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
Interesting. I'll go look for that.

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
@Djoss So I'm looking at your unRAID docker for CloudBerry Backup but it doesn't seem to have Amazon Glacier access. Glacier looks to be the cheapest alternative out there to CrashPlan. Any ideas if CloudBerry can connect to Glacier with this version?
-
[Support] Djoss - CloudBerry Backup
Can this Linux version connect to Amazon Glacier? I don't see it in the setup.

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
I'm already looking at other solutions like Arq or GoodSync running in a Windows VM and syncing to Amazon S3. Argh. @gfjardim Your work on this CrashPlan container has been outstanding. Believe it or not, it's one of the reasons I chose unRAID over some other solutions (backup was one of my reasons to build the server in the first place). Great job! It's unfortunate that we have to look for other solutions now.

Job Opportunity - Need someone to help build a docker for GoodSync
Did this get anywhere? Now that CrashPlan is out, we're going to need an alternative.

[CONTAINER] CrashPlan & CrashPlan-Desktop
I'm in exactly the same boat. Probably most of us are. I switched all my machines to back up to my unRAID box and CrashPlan to cloud it all. Now what? Argh.
