  1. Those are exactly the guides I have followed this time and before, but my installation fails every time.
  2. I've had limited success with VM's in the past, although I've at least been able to get them to install. Trying to get setup two Windows 10 VM's, after several failures, I finally got one to install, but the other one has been giving me even more problems. I've tried installing to a M.2 NVME, the array, an unassigned HDD, and even the cache, all either give me a BSOD almost immediately or make it anywhere from 20-60% through the "Getting files ready..." phase of the installation and then freezes up. When this happens it actually freezes the entire unRAID server and I have to hard reboot by holding down the power button. I've tried different ISOs, and even tried a Ubuntu ISO just to see, it froze up at the very beginning of the install too. While creating the VM I've tried different BIOS settings, changing from IDE to USB to SATA, changing the location, etc. Tried assigning only CPU 0, 2/4/6/8 CPU's, varying amounts of RAM, CPU passthrough and QEMU. While installing I've tried two different versions of Windows (April and October update) ISO files, different versions of Win10 within the install (Home, Pro, Education). Specs: unRAID 6.7.0 (also tried 6.4.1 which also failed so I upgraded today) i9-9900k, 64GB DDR4-3000, Asus Maximus XI Code, GTX 1080Ti, etc. Not sure what other info I can give, hoping someone can help guide me to a solution, thanks for the help!
  3. Anyone else have problems with PiHole after a reboot or when trying to update the docker? I haven't quite been able to solve the issue yet, but every time I reboot or run an update, UnRaid tells me that the PiHole docker couldn't be started because it cannot be found. Same thing when I restart, can't start the docker because it can't be found. To fix it each time I end up having to change my router settings back to a standard DNS and then reinstall the docker then reconfigure the DNS settings. I like PiHole, but this issue is really annoying as it takes down the web for my entire house each time I have to reboot UnRaid. Would appreciate any help!
  4. I followed the very simple instructions for transferring files from the old cache SSD to the new one, I'm not sure what went wrong. - Used the mover method to copy my appdata, system, and domains from cache to the array and then back to cache - Everything appears on the new cache drive - I now have three docker apps (Plex, OpenVPN, and Deluge), I had 8 or 9 before. - Plex shows my old server, but cannot connect to it - I now have zero VM's, I had two Win10 VM's previously I'm sure this is something little that I missed, but I'm hoping it's recoverable. I did keep the old SSD cache drive in as an unassigned device, but it's been reformatted already. I saw that everything was present on the new SSD cache drive, so I figured everything was fine. I did save a backup of the appdata folder on the array, in a share called "backups." The directory structure on my new cache matches the backups share exactly. I've tried restarting the server several times, uninstalled the Unassigned Devices plugin as it's caused some issues for me in the past. I tried manually pointing the settings in Docker and VM Manager to the correct directories, but still no VM's and the same three docker apps. Anything come to mind here? What can I do to get things back up and running without starting from scratch? Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the advice everyone. I took my 1TB 2.5" drive, which is only 5400rpm, set it up as an unassigned device, and got it setup with SAB. It's working better, but not to my satisfaction just yet. I'm not getting any dips down to 5MB/sec anymore, but it's still dipping down to 30MB/sec or so, mostly staying around 50-60. So that's twice as good as it was doing before. So, now that I know this works, now I'm debating going to a 7200rpm drive or SSD. Would a 7200RPM drive have a significant impact over 5400? I have a 256GB Crucial M4 MLC SSD I could use, but I don't have a spare 7200rpm laying around to test out. From what I've read MLC drives don't have as much wear issues as TLC SSD's, so I should be good even using it as a cache drive I think.
  6. Interesting, I'd like to read more about the Plex transcoding method. Is this something that has been documented somewhere? Thanks!
  7. Thank you for the suggestion. Wouldn't I still run into similar issues though since it would be downloading and extracting/processing simultaneously? Or are you suggesting something like a separate SSD?
  8. I upgraded to gigabit internet speeds recently, and I'm noticing some new issues. My setup: 2x Xeon E5-2670, 128GB RAM, 24TB of mixed (7200rpm HGST and Seagate IronWolf drives) + 6TB parity Iron Wolf, 256GB SSD for cache and VM storage When using SABNZBD for downloading, my very first download will max out the connection at 110MB/sec, but susbequent downloads drop down as low as 5MB/sec although normally hover between 10-25MB/sec. SAB is set to automatically do post-processing my decompressing and then moving the file. I believe the issue here is coming from the hard drives being saturated because my CPU load is low, RAM usage is low, and it only slows down when there are files processing. If nothing is processing it immediately goes back up to max download speed. I don't really want to use the cache drive since I have two gaming VM's on there for my kids. In what ways can I optimize this? I suppose I could add another 256GB SSD, run them in RAID-0, put one VM onto each SSD, and then use the cache pool for my downloads? Is this a possible setup? Seems like it wouldn't impact the VM's too much. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!
  9. I can't access my shares from Windows File Explorer on ONE computer, I can access it from all others on the same network. unRAID version 6.3.5 - I can access the web GUI via IP address or by typing //TOWER. - Win10 Education Version, which is essentially Win10 Pro. Laptop is also on Win10 EDU though and it works fine. - Both wired and wireless PC's can access //TOWER in File Explorer - I've ensured they are all on the same workgroup - I've ensured unRAID is set to Master in the SMB settings and ensure the workgroup name matches - I've tried changing the name of the unRAID server itself - I've tried rebooting both the unRAID server and the PC several times - Tried disabling IPv6 - Tried two different NIC's on the PC - Ensured the PC and the server are both on 192.168.1.x I've seen this issue brought up a dozen or more times over the last 5 years and it always ends up with "oh I restarted and it worked" or "oh I refreshed several times and it worked" I haven't been fortunate enough to have it start randomly working. Anyone have any suggestions? Since other PC's can access it, I doubt it's an unRAID configuration problem, but more likely the PC. I'm getting ready to do a full reinstall of Windows, but I would really rather not due to the large amount of configuration and downloading I'll have to do. I'd appreciate some guidance. Thanks!
  10. I figured this would be a commonly asked question, tried Googling and searching here, probably using the wrong terms. Basically I'm looking to add a few more TB to my array. I'm eligible for Western Digital's education discount so I was checking, they've got 4TB Reds for $100, not a bad deal. Currently I'm running 3x 4TB HGST Deskstar NAS (one for parity) which are 7200rpm drives, while the WD Reds are 5400rpm from what I've read. I run most things off my cache drive (512GB SSD), but I do stream some fairly high bitrate (4k stuff) from Plex. Currently seek times are close to instant even on 4k videos, but I'm concerned dropping down to the 5400RPM Reds may hurt performance for the items stored on those drives. Are the WD Reds going to hurt performance (especially from my Plex docker) when data is coming from them? The HGST NAS drives cost about 50% more at $160, but match the speed I currently have. Always looking to save money though when I can, but not with a significant performance decrease. I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks!
  11. Thank you for the responses, not sure how I missed that. Guess I was looking everywhere else except at the obvious error message. I found the file from NordVPN and then changed my port to 1194 and everything is working now. Thanks!
  12. I'm having a similar problem to some other people I've read, but scanning through 20-30 pages of this thread I haven't been able to find a solution that works for me. I can't access the WebUI from my LAN (haven't tested from outside the network yet). When I have VPN set to disabled, everything works fine. Once I enable it though I can't get in to the WebUI. I'm positive my user name and password is correct. I use NordVPN for my provider. Note: I am VERY new to this, all I've done is configure unRAID, install and configure PLEX, install and configure OpenVPN (for remote access to the server), and now installed Deluge. I tried turning off the OpenVPN docker just to be sure something wasn't interfering, no change though. I tried port 1198 default, and 1194 which I found in a NordVPN DD-WRT setup guide on their website. Not sure what else to do. I just followed a YouTube video from "Spaceinvader One" and it just all works first try in the video, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I haven't done anything else, just loaded the docker from the Community Applications, then did the basic configuration following the video, very simple stuff. This is from the supervisord.log, but I'm not even sure if I'm pulling the right thing. Hopefully this is what is needed, I'd really appreciate some help, thanks! 13. I'm currently running Windows Server, virtualizing several things, but I really like what I am seeing with unRAID, so I'm getting ready to set things up. My question is pertaining to the drives I have: 3x 4TB 7200RPM 1x 250GB SSD 1x 60GB SSD 1x 160GB SSD (SATA2) Okay, so obviously the three 4TB drives will be set up as an 8TB array with a parity drive. I'm guessing I'll do probably the 250GB SSD as the cache drive. Is there something I can do with the other SSD's? I'd like to run a Windows Server 2012r2 (for learning/experimenting with stuff for work) and a Server 2016 (for certification studies). Previously I've been dedicating the SSD's to certain VM's, but is something like that even possible with unRAID? Or is doing that even worth it? I've read documentation and watched several YouTube videos, but haven't seen anything specifically about that. I'd appreciate any guidance. If the smaller/older SSD's won't really be useful I could always install them in my kids' computers, so no big deal. I don't HAVE to use them in the server, but if they will be useful, I will. Thanks!
