  1. Any Pre-built unraid systems with 10GBethernet and ECC ram?

8 bays would do. Preferable on board nvme for cache.

I normally would build it myself, just struggle with free time.

I have the drives for it already. Nice Toshiba 14TB NAS drives.

I am done with my QNAP experience, and coming back to unraid after a 5 year break.

I seem to be fixing something every other day on QNAP.

  2. I had two licenses for unraid, and I have taken a break using it, and now I am ready to come back.

I think I have one of the two usb keys I had for it. Who do I contact to re-get my licenses, and best practice to install the latest version of unraid? The email account would have been the same. I plan on a clean install and pc build from scratch.

Who has the most reliable unraid PC build? Preferably small 8 drives max, with on board NVME for cache and onboard 2.5Gb ethernet or 10Gb. I do alot of large file transfers.

  3. I am now running 6.1.2, and with a hard drive failure, I noticed the serial numbers for the hard drives are not showing up anymore. Instead I seem to get these weird numbers... that do not correspond to anything on the hard drive physically... I am connecting using two aecera 8 port sata cards. In previous releases I was always able to correlate the hard drive serial number and the drive physically. Has something changed?

    Device    Identification

    Parity      2001b4d2041407574(SBB) 4TB

    Disk1      2001b4d2092112206(SBD) 3TB

    I used to see this:

    Disk1      PCI-0000;00;1F.2SCSI1:0:0:0:0host12(SBD) ST31000340AS_5QJ036TR

Where the last 8 corresponded to the serial number, and the ST3100xxx is the model of segate in this case...

    or Hitachi_ or WDC_serial numbers...

How do I get that view back?

  4. Hello all, I have been a long time unraid user. I recently upgraded to 6.1.0 with mixed results. Love the new features and speed of directory caching, but for some reason, every now and then it freezes up the server completely, no network, no logon...

Here is a screen capture of the console before reboot...

I do have a failed drive now, but it was doing the same thing before. I ordered a HGST Drive to replace it.

Also I wonder if having two acera 8 port pcie cards is causing the problem...  I might have to temporarily remove one card. Thing is it can go weeks before freezing...

It seems I cannot smb or afp over to my shares properly. If I succeed , its a question of time before I lose it.

    Any help appreciated...

  6. Guys,

Does the super Micro require a special SFF to SFF cable?

It works when I use the SFF to fanout cable, but not SFF-SFF. My Case Norco 24 dive bays, has SFF plugs.

The Acera 1222 works great, once you realise you have to set the drives to passthrough mode...DOH!

Think I will pick up another cheap used one.

  8. Folks I am building my second system, with the latest code.

My plan is to use ARC-1222 PCIe and raid 1 the parity drive.

My question is, once I am up and running, is there anything that needs to happen if I migrate over only a few disks of the old array that was running 4.6? I expect to have to recreate the the shares, but moving over a sata drive, will it simply see the data, or is there some vodoo I need to do?

  9. Do you have to use the trays?

I would love a 5 in 3 where you could just drop the drive in, and have a bungie hold it there, so you can read the serial numbers!

No screws to mess with. Hhow well does Unraid handle hot swapping drives?

That is what I like on the backblaze pods, the simple drop. I noticed on version 3 they talked about how import vibration is for longevity of the drives, and they added an anti virbation bracket.

  10. Can you provide the link to ddrescue procedure?

I am still stuck with the parity drive showing up as blue, and drive 1 as red.

I do not believe I can use the force parity drive back online, since I have a failed drive in the mix, at least not with what I read in the forums. If I can get the parity drive online, then replace the failed drive, for a rebuild, that would be amazing.

Looking at building my second unraid as we speak. I think I will port my data over, and reduce the number of drives in half, as I still have many 700GB dirves. Running 4.6 Unraid (If it ain't broke, don't play with it). It has done well up until now.

I replace two drives on average per year so far, understand I started a long time ago, and with 200GB and 400GB drives originally.

WeeboTech: The areca ARC-1222 PCIe x8 SATA controllers, can they also do 3-4TB drives? I saw some for sale at 200$ used.

  11. There might be light!

If the smart test, fails or does not report, but the short test from WD passes, I should be able to read the data right?

Is there a way to force the parity drive back online if it does not have smart enabled?

  12. I have not tried the ddrestore.

I did have another 1tb, I tried to port the platters over, but the platters are really in bad shape. Surprised the drive did not fail sooner. Seriously thinking of rebuilding a second unraid server, and porting over the data to new server. If I did, I would want to create a hardware raid 5 for my parity drive, and then the rest of the drives as is. Has anyone one attempted it?

I might be able to read the parity drive, as I can see it in ubuntu.

The data drive is gone gone gone, gone so long, its gone gone gone so long! Reminds me of a song...

Is there a link to the steps to the ddrestore option?

    That would be too cool!

  13. So I had two drives fail within a short time frame, before I could replace my parity drive, during the reboot, a second drive failed and started clicking. I tried so many things. I finally opened the drive, it is not pretty at all. The platters were pretty baddly scratched. I have not tested my parity drive yet. I am hoping that one will be salvagable. In a case of a double drive failure, which drive do you replace fist? The parity right? I have no idea what was on the failed drive. Is there a way of getting a list of files on the failed drive?

  14. Does anyone have a package already setup with the latest stable unriad version, plex, unmenu couch patatoe, sabnzbd, and sickbeard ? I currently have an older version running with sabnzb and unmenu. I wish I had the time to hack. I bought an apple tv and although netflix is pretty cool, the video quality is driving me crazy!

If I understand correctly, plex and stream 1080p to apple tv 3?
