  1. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/storage/build-a-10-gbit-home-network-for-1100/284 Now that 10Gige is a reality for the home, it might be time to speed up unraid. Those of us using large video files (Weddings, Advertising (low budjet), it certainly would make moving files around so much faster! Thoughts, Comments, next steps?
  2. So to safely run with the MV8 card, what version of unraid should we be running?
  3. Same problem on same version here. Did U Resolve it?
  4. If only they made a case with a clear front so you can read the serial numbers. Better yet, a smaller version of the backblaze case, where you simply drop the hard drive into the case upright, no screws or cables to plug, and you see the serial numbers!

    AOC-SAT2-MV8

What is the min Unraid Level that will run the pcix card AOC-SAT2-MV8? This is a production box.
  6. Anyone use this in unriad? IBM ServeRAID M1015 Which cables did you buy? Is it a better deal then the AOC 8 port?
  7. Guys does anyone else have a problem with the sabnzbd cache directory not clearing? I decided to delete the directory and so far it is at 180K files and going over 100GB and going! At least now I know where all my storage space went! I know you can run sab with the -c to clear cache and logs, and que, but I never want to clear my que, just the cache. Is there a way to have it clear the cache automatically?
  8. Wow, Great work you guys. I am going to have to try this, as I get annoyed of the findered boxes opening up at login. So do you have a step by step guide written, or an "official" script release? I noticed so many different versions throughout the thread.
  9. Noj, I am looking to do exactly what you did there. Can you post all the details of your setup? Does your mythtv play any 1080P source without any problems?
  10. An awful waste, indeed! I'm trying to cut down on the number of processors and disks, not increase it. I understand why unRAID is a standalone product, but I really find it counterproductive in practice. I like your idea of running VMware on the unRAID box, but I don't get along very well with Linux so I'm taking the opposite approach: Running Windows on the physical hardware, then hosting an unRAID VM which gets control of the SATA disks for bulk storage. I've been toying with this on my laptop and it seems to work fine. UnRAID may like lots of RAM for caching, but it's been perfectly happy in 256MB, so the VM won't even chew up too much memory on the host. The only feature I haven't been able to test is whether the OS in the VM can spin down physical disks, since my test environment uses virtual disks. If not, I can just do that with inactivity timers on the host OS, no big deal. The server I'm replacing has been running XP from a Compactflash card for quite a while with no issues, other than the slow swap. The new box will have quadruple the RAM so that shouldn't be an issue, and I might be able to use the XP Embedded Toolkit to tweak some things too, though I have to check the licensing on that. I ordered the hardware this morning (Via PC2500E, two WD10EACS) and I'll post my progress in a few days. Are your sata drives able to power down in unriad?
  11. Great work Raj, I love it. I was wondering if anyone ever thought of creating a smaller version of the back blaze box outlined here: http://blog.backblaze.com/2009/09/01/petabytes-on-a-budget-how-to-build-cheap-cloud-storage/ I love the fact that you only need to drop the hard drive into the slot standing up and you can easily see the serial numbers on the top of the hard drive. Air flow works really well as well. Now they have room for 45 drives in this unit, which is way too much for me! I'd lover a similar case with 20 odd drives. No 5-3 cages or trays needed! But perhaps with a redundant power supply...
  12. Whatever the option, make sure you can read the Serial numbers easily on the front of the hard drives. Makes life easier when one fails, figuring out which drive went.
  13. Any updates on SAS expanders? Anyone find a way to have easy access to hard drives while still seeing the serial numbers on the front? I think a smaller version of what backblaze built would be great.
  14. I wonder from a marketing perspective, if unraid would sell more if it was ubuntu based (Mint 10) Keep up the hard work guys. I'll be happy to test your install docs when you get them done. I guess the other option is to have a full slackware install. Has anyone setup their unraid server as their HTPC server as well (HDMI out, with full 1080P) right from the unraid server? Dolby Surround sound? I hate to admit it, but I only use Slackware for Unraid.
  15. Has the step by step guide been updated for the latest unraid and slackware 64 bit? Seriously thinking about it. It would eliminate one computer here, the Multimedia machine! Has anyone tried running unraid on ubunutu or Linux Mint 10? Is it possible if all your replacing is the md files? I just like the fact the everything works right out of the live dvd install on Linux Mint. Is there a similar build for slackware? IE, Slackware Mint... grin... I love hacking, just not when I do not have the time to do it anymore.
  16. Wow, I have been using SABNZBD now for some time, and I still love it. I recently added Sickbeard to it and wow! Talk about making life easy on yourself for auto downloads! I quickly tried Couchpatatoe, but I ran out of time. Has anyone setup couch Patatoe on unraid?
  17. What if Pogo Plug features were included in the next version of Unraid? All I can say then is wow! This would become a vary good all in one solutions for not just personal, but business as well. I prefer to stay away from Rsync. I really need something simple that Grandparents can click on and upload a video. I would also setup an unraid box at the grandparents place, and automatically backup all my files there as well.
  18. Has anyone compared performance between v5 and v4? Just curious if there are any performance updates. Faster parity, faster cifs transfers, ... Also with the new HArd DRives coming out with 4K instead of 512byte blocks, has anyone done any testing?
  19. Could we add PHP admin to the package? Is it easy to install? I want to create a web base file share password protected. Something like http://www.sharefile.com/ Any hints or tips?
  20. Not trying to revive a thread here, but can you setup a tcpip network over usb 3.0? With 4.8 Gbps vs 1Gbps, assuming you have an ssd cache drive like OCZ Z-Drive m84 PCI-Express 8x SSD, this could seriously shorten transfer times. I only have three boxes close together to connect, although one can be on regular GigE. Yes there are much faster drives out there, just out of the price range. OCZ Z-Drive m84 PCI-Express 8x SSD 979$ 256GB Max Performance Read: Up to 700 MB/s Write: Up to 500 MB/s
  21. Post this a a new topic, and zip up your syslog. People on this board will help you trouble shoot. I have done alot of testing, and everything is very stable for the last 1 year plus. Not even a failed drive...sweet. I normally loose one drive a year, which is fine by me as the 3TB drives are out... grin...
  22. I figured if I wanted more speed, I could always put in one of the newer SSD drives for cache. I am currently not using it, but there was nothing wrong data wise, after running multiple checksums on large files. I just got anoid at the errors in the error logs, and I also upgraded my cache drive to a fast 1.5TB drive that is also energy efficient. So if you need the performance, over 80MB/s you will hit the network bottleneck for a 1GB/s network anyways... Why do you need the performance? Or are you just testing? Understand I have not tried it with the latest code.
  23. Clean install deleting all config files and cache directory fixed the problem. Strange. Now if only SABnZBD would cleanup the cache directory on it's own!
  24. Nope, any RSS I have the same problem... I am aware of tvnzb.com. Perhaps I need to do a clean install...
  25. Something strange recently started to occur. My RSS feeds which have been working for a year or more now, suddenly do not work any more and on non of the 5 rss sites I use. If I go to those sites and manully download the nzb to the download dir, it works. It sees the nzb's on the site, but the queue lists them as fetching nzb and days latter still fetching, so I end up deleting them. I was running 5 Beta and upgraded to the 5 final listed here on the site (All in one package), and the same thing.
