1. What happens if you chose to not over write the files? disk.cfg ident.cfg network.cfg share.cfg I am upgrading from 4.5 Beta4. It boots up. I do see errors of DPO or FUA not supported, and something about HPA failed to read the native address. But unRAID comes up, and I can access my files, as well as sabnzbd.
2. So I just tried my unraid with the lastest beta Beta 5, and no go. Although the Bios see the drive, unRaid does not see it. The Serial number of the Drive used is : Seagate: 6vm04tq6 Here is the syslog.
3. Sorry for the Delay, Here is the cable, : SAS CAble 15$+GST CDN from VMAX Supermicro Cable #: CBL-0097-02 You need two of them. I think the cable you quote might be good as well, but I ordered the supermicro cable to avoid any issues.
4. Cool, you went for the same MOBO (almost) and the same tower. I am finding that raid0 although it works, it looks like one of the drives power downs even though I set it to never power down. So I will be defaulting back to non Raid0 for now, unless I build a full distro, where I can then add the proper drivers...). If you get a chance to do that, please let me know.
5. RE: Distribtuing vmwareserver with unRaid or any other package... VMware answered back, but the answer is not clear in regard to lic. I am waiting for a second answer. It might be doable as a vmware partner..
6. UnRAid with Unmenu and Sabnzbd rocks! Excuse my enthusiam, but I finally had time to read and install unmenu. It is so good, I am surprised it is not built-in to unraid. With that said, has anyone created a link for sabnzb in the unmenu options?
7. Anychance of having unMenu included in BubbaRaid> I just tried it, and it is awesome!
8. Same question but for ripping blu-ray discs into 1080p .MKV containers with AC-3? As long as it keep the doly surround sound intact, and the 1080p. I just like the mkv containers.
9. Vista with less than 4GB of ram will be slow on a normal non vmware box, unless you turn off all the fluff...even then 2GB seems slow. I reverted back to xp because I found it too slow on my workstation. Funny thing, 2008 server ran fast on my box. You can install direct x and a fe other needed components to play games like WOW, or CNC, or FarCry. Make you wonder what they did to the code in Vista. Sorry getting sidetracked.
10. If it is cool drives you want, consider what I am using, and it is not expensive: I also have a 200mm fan on the surface/top of the case. I do not bother to turn on the top 5.25inch fan, as it is not needed. It comes with 3 x 120mm (front), 2 x 120mm (rear) and 1 x 200mm (top), I had added a forth 120mm fan, but turned it off. All fans come with a variable speed dial. Setting them all to their lowest is perfect. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3630.0
11. Since BTRFS does raid 0,1,10 you get the option of protection or speed, or both raid 10 (but requires 4 drives). BTRFS is built into the Kernal. The question is: Is it compatible with unRaid. Unfortunately, I do no think it will be, something about the md if I recall. But if one of the developers wants to test it, and it turns out to be a performance advantage, then who knows. I was just curious to see how many people knew about btrfs. I know it is still fairly new/experimental, but stable enough to be included in the Linux Kernal. It competes with ZFS. As far as the parity drive goes, I think the parity rebuild will depend on all the drives and controllers driving them. The slowest one "say a PCI promise card 4 way" will slow down your parity rebuild. So it would not help in this case. However, you could have two 1TB drives raid 0 for parity, instead of having to buy a 2TB drive for parity and a 2TB drive to be used for storage. I am sure the linux/unRaid guru's will put in there thoughts soon...
12. Has anyone created an antivirus pluggin for unRaid? I think it would be great to have an option to enable antivirus scans, especially since my media pc and gaming pc are both windows based. Any suggestions?
13. Has anyone tested the BTRFS file system? I hear it is much faster and also performs software raid 0, 1, 10 right out of the box. It is included in the existing kernal builds. I would love to see a comparison between it and reiserfs. Maybe if we used BTRFS for the Cache drive? If anyone tests this with either seagate 500GB 7200.12 or 1.5TB 7200.11 Drives let me know. Those are currently the fastest SATA2 7200RPM drives, just as fast as the VeloRaptor 10K drives. http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7308/3/#comment-2488
14. Try VMAX in Canada. They have the best prices, even with the shipping. Don't forge to order two cables with it. Once Beta 5 is out and tested, I will let you know.
15. Although Drive Expert works in unraid, unraid does not know how to handle the drive temperature of a raid 0 system. edit 1 May09: Also unraid seems to power down the cache drive in this config, even though it is set to never power down. Odd really. Maybe in the future. For now I will temporarily stop using the cache drive in a raid 0 setup. Apr 23 14:43:51 Tower emhttp: disk_temperature: ioctl (smart_read_values): Input /output error Apr 23 14:48:51 Tower emhttp: disk_temperature: ioctl (smart_read_values): Input /output error Apr 23 14:53:51 Tower emhttp: disk_temperature: ioctl (smart_read_values): Input /output error Apr 23 14:58:51 Tower emhttp: disk_temperature: ioctl (smart_read_values): Input /output error Apr 23 15:03:51 Tower emhttp: disk_temperature: ioctl (smart_read_values): Input /output error Is there a way to suppress this error? Also, I find that the drive once powered down, seems to require a reboot to power up again. I have not decided 100% wether or not I will use it.
16. Actually, it pickup up all my rss feeds. Sweet, I did not skip a beat!
17. Update as of 21 April: Using Drive Expert for Cache with two 500GB Seagate 7200.12 Drives saw a performance increase. Transfer to the cache drive now hover around 65-71 (mostly 69) MB/s. How sweet it is! Also I am changing my parity drive to a Seagate 1.5 TB 7200.11, but the drive itself is not the bottle neck, my two pci 4 port Promise cards are the bottleneck. Only getting 14MB/s on parity right now. I have a Supermicro AOC card ready to go, when unRaid 4.5 Beta5 comes out, I will test it. I did not see any performance difference between AHCI and IDE drive, although switching between the two modes requires you to re-setup your devices in unRaid. Also, it does not seem that the motherboard can boot headless. Keyboardless is no problem.
18. I emailed vmware today to see what was required to redistribute vmware server bundled with Unraid. I'll let you know what their answer is.
19. Does it burn well as well?
20. Silicon Image Sil5723 (Drive Xpert technology) - 2 x SATA 3Gb/s setup in Raid0, and it worked very well in unRaid. I never seen unRaid and bubbaRaid boot so fast, not even on my other dual core system (Intel E6850/4GB), same speed roughly. I will have to look into why that is later. I tested transfer speeds with and without parity, stability. Gear: Asus P5Q Deluxe (Left everything default, except removed floppy) (Will have to test again changing the AHCI vs IDE) Intel CPU E8400 Kingston Value Ram 8GB (planning for future) Antec 1200 Case 12 bay case for 190$ Canadian (it even comes with manual variable fan speeds for all 6 fans.) (I will post a review on it at the end of the post. Lots of fans and cooling!) I also just borrowed a kill-a-watt. Will test! The case is amazingly quiet, with all fans on low. With the temperatures so low, I have disabled some of the fans, and the temperatures have not changed. I have 3 spare SATAII cables and two IDE cables. I am currently not using the drive expert drives. No reason really. The transfer speed is decent. I will replace by 200GB Cache drive with a 1.5TB Seagate drive(just as fast at the 10K raptors for less money and more storage). I might even buy two and setup Drive expert on it. Here are pictures of the case and the setup. Notice the Case comes with 3 120mm fans in the front, a 200mm fan on top of the case, and two 120mm fans at the back. You can add a forth fan in front of the drives in the front of the case, and another one on the side panel. But it is not needed. I did have to assemble the 4th fan cage for the front. All parts come with the case, but Ihad to buy one 120mm fan. See photos. Here are pictures of the 5 drives in 3 5.25inch bays I made. Not perfect, but it works. Jig Saw and drill is all that is needed. [/img]
21. I use terracopy, and it does not choke. The latest version automatically adjust transfer speeds. I look forward to testing the unmenu version. I spend more time moving files inside unraid...
22. It works. Now I just need to write a script to compare previous scans and warn me of mismatches. I wish there was a database / program to record all this.
23. I guess I could try to run it headless, but I prefer to have a small video card in there. A pci video card might work, the ones I had in stock did not. If I get a chance tonight, I will try to go headless, and let you know what happened... 22Apr: Worked late last night. Will try tonight.
24. Woowhoo it works! I forgot the /sabnzbd part of the http. 192.168.1.99/sabnzbd This is great. Is there a way to trasnfer my que from one sabnzbd server to another?
