  1. ok, so it's not only me, so far 4 people in this thread are having the same issue. I'll try the solution of joelones and keep you posted
  2. Hi Tom, Let me start by saying, I am one of the patient ones. Not because I am a fan boy, as I'm not, but because I believe that judging others without having the full picture is at least daring. Life throws many curve balls as to make it as simple as 2+2, and I'm sure there is a good enough reason (for you) not to have replied here (or anywhere else) before. However, at this point I'm really disappointed with you. It has taken you more than one month to reply and still didn't provide any useful feedback. IMHO you should provide answers not only to your "supporters" but also to your "detractors", after all, WE ALL ARE UNRAID USERS. I'm sorry to say I was expecting more from you. 3. I don't know how I missed your post... BTW, I'm using the same configuration as you do: ESXi: 5.1 unRAID: v5rc8a VMtools: open_vm_tools-2012.05.21.724730_unRaid5.0rc8-i686-3Zeron.tgz It certainly looks the same error, but in my case it shuts down with only one request. So when I click on "Shut Down Guest", I get the error message, but the machine actually shuts down. My concern is that is just powering off and not properly shutting down. I can't test your solution in the go file as I'm preclearing 2 drives right now, but will do and let you know how it works. No one else is having this issue ?
  4. Ok, so I installed the SimplyFeatures webGUI and then copy the VMware .plg file in /boot/config/plugins. Now it installs ok and I can see the VM tab in the SF webGUI. However, I still get this error. * when I use the command "Shut Down Guest" from the vSphere client I get an error message, although the vm closes after a few seconds So I have some questions: [*]Is this warning when shutting down the guess normal? I don't feel comfortable with error messages. [*]Would it be better to install the 'official' VMware tools?
  5. I just installed SimpleFeatures 1.0.5 in V5rc8a. Man, this looks good!! I am right now preclearing two drives, is it possible to check status from the SF GUI? In my other box, running 4.7, status can be seen from unMENU. As a suggestion, would it possible to integrate preclearing within SF?
  6. Hey ford, what did you do? I am also thinking of reversing the airflow
  7. Hi, I followed the guide to the letter and everything went fine, actually I was expecting it to be more difficult. Thanks Johnm for the guide! However, I run into trouble to install VMware tools in unRAID. I posted it here just in case someone wants/can to chip in.
  8. I'm having issues installing the vmware tools. I'm running unRAID 5rc8a in a ESXi box (X9SCM, Xeon 1240, 16GB RAM). I installed unRAID in a hybrid boot following brian89gp's instructions. It works very well and boots in around 15 secs. I downloaded open_vm_tools-2012.05.21.724730_unRaid5.0rc8t-i686-3Zeron.plg from the first post and put it in /boot/plugins. However when starting unRAID I get some mixed messages: * the vSphere Cliens shows: ? Running (3rd party/Independent) * unRAID shows a warning, aparently it didn't install * however the tgz package downloaded well to /boot/packages. I tried a manual install and got a warning mkdir cannot create a directory, although it installed (apparently) fine * when I use the command "Shut Down Guest" from the vSphere client I get an error message, although the vm closes after a few seconds So I have some questions: [*]Is this ok? I don't feel comfortable with the question mark in the vSphere client. [*]Why do I get the warning in unRAID? [*]Is the error message when closing expected? I don't want to put any data in my array until I'm confident the closing procedure is fine. [*]Would it be better to install the 'official' VMware tools Some additional info. I don't have yet any drives in the array. I am waiting for the fans to arrive.
  9. HD Audio Set Up I don't know if anyone else found this problem, I don't remember reading it in the thread. I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 in my ESXi box (v 5.1). I used the same components as Johnm (X9SCM, Xeon 1240, 16GB RAM, Plextor M3 256GB as datastore). When I started the Win 7 guest, it couldn't find an audio driver. Luckily my friend Google set me in the right direction here I hope it helps some else.
  10. Johnm, you are the soul of ESXi in this forum. Someone had to say it. Thanks a lot for your time, help and guidance. Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Completely agree, but I don't think this thread is the right place. Just because I, as many others, am patient doesn't mean I don't agree with (most) users' frustrations. Let's agree to disagree Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  12. Crashplan, I have 400 GB backed up on the cloud Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  13. Ok, I don't see anything on boot, so I'll take it worked. I didn't realize the sas2flash.efi was there. I don't know if I used the sas2flash.efi file in the sas2008.zip or the sas2flash.efi from the Installer_P13_for_UEFI.zip. How can I double check wich version do I have installed? thanks, I hope it helps to others

  15. You can find connectors and custom sleeved cables at http://www.moddiy.com or http://www.frozencpu.com http://www.moddiy.com/products/Corsair-AX%7B47%7DHX%7B47%7DTX-Series-Custom-PSU-Modular-Cables.html#.UJO_RoaO5lM http://www.moddiy.com/products/Corsair-HX-Series-PSU-8%252dPin-%286%252b2-PCI%252de-%26-4%252b4-CPU%29-Modular-Connector-w%7B47%7D-Pins-%252d-Black.html#.UJPCKoaO5lM thanks, I didn't know modDIY, very large range, already ordered some parts
  16. Some additional info: UPDATE X9SCM-F from 1.1a to 2.0a In the SuperMicro webpage the only BIOS version I could find was 2.0b. I didn't want to try that one and preferred to stick to 2.0a, just in case. After a little googling I found the right file and though I could save you guys the 5 min it took me to find it. You can find the files here and the instructions here. My 2 cents daniel
  17. Hi All, I think/hope this could come handy for some. I started from BIOS 1.1a and followed the procedure step by step. It didn't work. I then updated to BIOS 2.0a, followed the same procedure using sas2flash.efi from Installer_P13_for_UEFI.zip dowloaded from LSI webpage, and it went flawless. However, how can I check it's in IT mode? And how can I update to P14?
  18. I'll be following this thread closely. I just, literally, started building my ESXI machine, but mi goal in the mid term is to use ZFS not only for the cache, but for storing the VM. I was actually thinking of FreeNAS, but for no particular reason, I have zero, like in nada, experience with ZFS.
  19. Hey Johnm, As many in this forum I am using Atlas as a reference for my build. By looking at this picture I saw you are using custom cables to power up the backplanes. Can I ask where did you buy those connectors? What do you think of these http://www.jab-tech.com/ConnectorZ-90-Degree-Pass-thru-Molex-Connector-Black-pr-3155.html? I'm also using a modular PSU (Corsair HX 850). Where can I find the connector going into the PSU? Also, and I may be wrong, it looks like you are powering up both plugs in each backplane from a single PSU. Is this so? Why are you doing it? thanks,

  21. Apologies in advance for the noob question Is there any difference between the m1015 and lsi 9220-8i? I just received a card i bought in ebay and don't see any sort of reference to IBM or m1015 on it. Would it be any difference with the flashing? How can i check the firmware status?
