  1. 15 euro, for either one or the two of them Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  2. Still on sale Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  3. As you should have realized by now, such a list does not exist anywhere on the Internet. As far as I know from my reading of the posts on this site, there are no major issues left in the latest release candidate (V5.0-rc6-r8168-test2). The rc was released on July 26th. You can read the posts after that date if you want to see if there might be some minor thing that would cause you not to want to update. But the only things that I have have seen have been cockpit errors... Which brings up a second point. (And this is not directed only at you!) If you have a working mature unRAID system running on ver4.X, why are considering upgrading? You should be asking yourself that before you even consider the upgrade path. If there is some feature that you need, great, go to it. If it is just because it is there and your system is critical to your lifestyle (or business) or you don't have the time to deal with minor hassles, maybe you should not upgrade at all! There is an old adage, the version X.0 of any software is merely the last beta and the last group of beta testers are the early adapters! +1 Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  4. I have two brand new (still in the box) AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 bought directly from Supermicro. These are the evolution of the AOC-SASLP-MV8 and have 8x 6Gb/s ports. I'd sell for 90 EUR +p&p and will ship worlwide. I can provide copy of invoice for warranty purposes. For those interested, these are located in Spain. Good opportunity for non-US users. PM if interested. http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/aoc-sas2lp-mv8.cfm
  5. Btw, I'm on holidays right now without access to my system to check it for you. Sorry, maybe someone else can comment Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  6. No, but they won't be protected Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Thanks. Will install. Will my apple tv be able to see the files from the additional drive as a samba share? I don't know about Apple TV, but I can see it in windows below //tower in network connections. I think you can also see it as a disk share, but my system is set up to show only user shares. 8. What Beta said.. I would look into possibly getting a Supermicro X9SCM-IIF (Updated X9SCM-F with 2 ESXI compatible NICs and V2 Bios fr IVY Bridge CPU's). otherwise you might have problems if you do not have a compatible sandy bridge CPU about. I would also consider buying 2x 8GB stick instead of 4 4GB sticks. unless you can reuse that ram, it seems silly to throw it away. EDIT and he sniped in before me.. I updated teh front page yesterday to show that I am recommending the X9SCM-iiF now I saw here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=17936.0 a solution to use the second nic (i haven't tested it myself yet though). Any other reason to recommend the X9SCM-iiF, it's almost twice the price than the X9SCM-F? Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
  9. Very interested in your findings, I ordered 3 x SAS2LP for a ESXi build before I saw that no one has tested it in such a config. I'm hoping it works with the same hack as the SASLP... Thanks! I don't think I'll start before next week, pretty busy at work at the moment, but I'll keep you posted Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  10. Thanks guys, at least i know that what I want to do is feasible! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Hi Beta, I'm actually thinking of installing pfSense as a WM also. Are you using the 4 ports in the Intel Nick for the LAN? I'm guessing these go to the switch, right? I actually thought of using one of the ports in the MB (I also have the MBD-X9SCM-F-O) for the WAN and the other for the LAN. Would this be feasible? It might work fine, but the 82579LM doesn't have an official ESXi driver. There is a community hack driver kicking around, but I've steered clear of it due to a few problems people have had. This was one of the reasons for getting the Intel card. The other one was that I like overkill If you can get the 82579LM to work ok with ESXi then yeah, there's no real issue running it in that configuration. re: CP2 - CP1 has stopped development, and CP2 is much better-looking and fuller featured. It's a little rough around the edges in places, but it works OK for the most part. Considering I'm an ESXi noob that'll be a challenge, I'll keep you posted! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  12. V2 has a better search and a library manager This page sums it all up http://couchpota.to/forum/showthread.php?tid=175 thanks! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  13. That all depends on what you put on it. I would put no more then 3 30GB disk images. you want to leave a good amount of overhead. that would be more then enough from normal 2008 or win7 images. (plus a small disk for the unraid boot if you go that route) you could use thin provisioned drive images to save space but you would have some fun if you restored the drive images from backup or moved them around between datastores since it tends to expand them normally. also when you backup VM's, many backup programs/scripts for ESXi start a temporary snapshot and that can be pretty big if the backup is slow. Right now I'm thinking of a couple of win machines (win7 or win7 + xp), unraid, and a linux distro. Mid term I'm thinking of pfsense and maybe mac (is this even posible?) The reason for two win VMs is that my intention is to build a photoshop workstation on win7 64 (if a get a successful gpu passthrough). The second win VM would be for common tasks (office, ms money, etc) and xbmc so my library is automatically updated from CP and SB Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
  14. and did you get Photoshop to work, including OpenGL support and 3D hardware accelerated graphics? what about PCi/integrated GPU passthrough? i don't use Photoshop so i cant comment on that... i tryed passing a video card but couldn't get that to work (haven't spent enough time on it) Anyone? 15. Good question.. I dont have a definitive answer for you... BUT.. they are competing cards. they are pretty much the same on paper. The biggest difference is one uses a marvel chipset and one uses an LSI. In general the SAS2LP-MV8 should cost less for the consumer. But because so many M1015's have flooded the market from server pulls, you can get a better deal on ebay for an M1015 (it was even better a year or so back). The SAS2LP-MV8 are still hard to get for some reason. many places they are special order. The LSI chipset has large company support (Dell, IBM, Intel, ETC.) Because of that, the LSI based cards are more recognized in the industry and has more support globally. for example, the LSI cards work in ESXi natively. (I honestly do not know of the SAS2LP-MV8 works in ESXi even with a hack. anyone?). I prefer to stick to the LSI myself in case I want to re-purpose the card for say freenas or solaris/napp-it (and i do have both with M1015's). The LSI might also have better Expander support since many expanders use the LSI chipset. as long as the bugs are all worked in Version 5. there is no reason to use one over the other for baremetal unraid. For other uses, a little google might help. A side note, the SASLP-MV8, while did not have lots of support outside of unRAID, is a little workhorse. it will take all of the abuse i can toss at them and keep on working. I would not hesitate to buy another one if it was on sale for a good price. Hopefully the SAS2LP-MV8 grows up to be the same way. EDIT: One big difference that i ran into. Warranty! IBM pretty much told me yesterday, they they will not replace an M1015 without the serial number of the server it was pulled from or a copy of an invoice from IBM or a Certified retailer like CDW stating it was bought as an upgrade part for an IBM server. and they still wanted the server serial number. The supermicro card is a retail card so it has an easy to replace warranty. Thanks a lot johnm. I'll keep you posted with the performance of the SAS2LP, hopefully it works fine in esxi/unraid. Still awaiting to receive all the parts though and to decide on the ssd datastore. Would 128gb be enough? Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
  16. Maybe too late for me, but what are the pro/cons of the M1015 vs the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8?
  17. sorry it's completely off topic, but what are the advantages of CP v2 vs CP v1?
  18. Hi Beta, I'm actually thinking of installing pfSense as a WM also. Are you using the 4 ports in the Intel NIC for the LAN? I'm guessing these go to the switch, right? I actually thought of using one of the ports in the MB (I also have the MBD-X9SCM-F-O) for the WAN and the other for the LAN. Would this be feasible? I'd like to keep one of the PCIe in the MB available for a GPU (the other 3 are dedicated to 3 AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards), hoping in the future it can be passed through to a Win VM and be able to run Photoshop in there (maybe aiming to high?) PS: I building the ESXi right know, not an expert myself but sure having fun :)
  19. thanks! Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  20. Could I get some advice on what RAM to buy, I'm not an expert and getting lost with all the different specs (CL, ECC, unbuffered, etc). I am in Spain so I can't buy at newegg of monoprix. The mb is a supermicro X9SCM-F-O. I have found these modules readily available: KVR1333D3N9/8G KVR1333D3D4R9S/8GHB KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G KVR13E9K2/16I Any other I should look for? Any Spanish (European) forum members that could chip in?
  21. Thanks Johnm, I'm actually following your post to build an ESXi server. I'm planing a built with the supermicro X9SCM-F-O board, E3-1240 Xeon and 3 SAS2LP-MV8 cards. daniel
  22. I'm using WD green drives, so that answers it. Actually, another reason to add a third card is to keep on-board sata ports for EXSi datatores and adding drives through SNAP. I use SSD drives for these. Thanks mrow, that was fast!! :)
