  1. I ran this: root@Tower:~# vboxwebsrv -H 192.168.1.131 1>/dev/null 2>&1 & [1] 28716 So it loads process # 28716 However, if i go to the php web page I get this error message Could not connect to host (http://192.168.1.131:18083/)
  2. It didn't work root@Tower:/mnt/disk/apps/vbox# vboxwebsrv -H 192.168.1.131 1>/dev/null 2>&1 & [1] 19038 Everything fine, but I couldn't access the phpVirtualBox webpage, getting the error: Could not connect to host (http://127.0.0.1:18083/) I tried then to set the authoritation mode and get an error and stop of the vboxserver root@Tower:/mnt/disk/apps/vbox# VBoxManage setproperty websrvauthlibrary null /opt/VirtualBox/VBoxManage: error: Failed to initialize COM! [1]+ Exit 3 vboxwebsrv -H 192.168.1.131 >/dev/null 2>&1 I just don't get it. I can install it and make it work, compile the package without issues, but I can't make it work over reboots
  3. ok. it didn't work... I followed the wiki instructions and get it to work, including php access and RDP from my laptop, but when I shut down the server to test whether it re-installs over reboots, it didn't work. I tried the whole installation procedure twice to check that I made the VBox packager right, but no success: I don't get it to make it permanent over reboots. This is the output of the putty session: Tower login: root Password: Linux 2.6.32.9-unRAID. root@Tower:~# cd /mnt/disk/apps/vbox root@Tower:/mnt/disk/apps/vbox# installpkg vbox-4.1.8-75467-unRAID.tgz Verifying package vbox-4.1.8-75467-unRAID.tgz. What am I doing wrong? I have spent the whole weekend on this and still doesn't work! Please help :'( :'(
  4. I started again from scrap and now it's working! I'm going to try and set up my first vm
  5. Hi All, I followed the wiki without issues, shutdown and power up the server again, install the vbox-unRAID.tgz package without warnings, but then I can't continue. This is the output of the putty session: Tower login: root Password: Linux 2.6.32.9-unRAID. root@Tower:~# cd /boot root@Tower:/boot# installpkg vbox-unRAID.tgz Verifying package vbox-unRAID.tgz. Installing package vbox-unRAID.tgz: PACKAGE DESCRIPTION: Executing install script for vbox-unRAID.tgz. How can I fix this? thanks in advance guys!
  6. Yeap, I know, I only use lower case when working in linux, and that isn't either. For some bloody reason it can't find the folder, even though it's there.
  7. tried and didn't work. After 5 min still no response
  8. I decided to start from scrap: 1. Created a test share called testmusic. 2. Put some music folders on it for test purposes. 3. Moved it out of the cache (to disk3). The path is /mnt/user/testmusic. 4. In Headphones, 'Manage' tab I put /mnt/user/testmusic in the 'Music Library' field and clicked on 'Submit Query' 5. After some seconds log returns: 2012-01-14 11:09:05 WARNING Cannot find directory: /mnt/user/testmusic. Not scanning 6. I then logged into Putty and typed chmod -R 777 /mnt/user/testmusic 7. Checked folder properties: drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 768 2012-01-14 11:05 testmusic/ 8. Tried again step 5 9. I got the same message in the log ???
  9. yes it does, it has some 'test' folders with music I'm not really using /mnt/cache/music but /mnt/cache/_music. I'm doing it like this just because I read somewhere that some people suffered lost of files, wrong renaming, etc, and didn't want to risk the software messing up my library. So I created this test folder to check how the software scanned the library and any potential malfunctioning. Once I get it to work, (will that happen?), I'll use the actual library PS: thanks a lot to you all guys, even if I don't get it to work I do appreciate your time and efforts
  10. Tried, didn't work, this is just pissing me off.... >
  11. The parity drive does not contain actual file data, it's a parity calculation of all matching sectors of all drives. There's no way to read the parity drive in this manner. When a drive is removed from the array. all "other" data drives AND the parity drive are used to reconstruct the missing sectors/blocks/files/disk. That's what I meant: calculate the file ignoring the data drive and using build coming from the parity drive and rest of the data drives
  12. hey guys, just a quick post to let you know I'm following this topic. I'm curious about the outcome. A bit of background: I've been on unRAID for about 8 months, everything has been pain-free during the last 6, but the first 2 months were hurtful... This a short summary of my venture... I had a failing drive that 10 days before has passed 5 preclear cycles, and SMART reports were not indicating nothing concernable. When rebuilding to a new one, I swapped the disks around and one of my healthy disks was connected in a failing slot of the backplane (I learnt this much later...). To make things worse, I had a power outage during rebuild... Bottom line, the parity sync showed zillion of mistakes, which couldn't be right. I recovered almost everything by directly connecting the failing drive to another station and running recovery tools but I must confess I still cross my fingers every month on the monthly parity check. If an error appears I wouldn't know whether is the MB port, the cable, the backplane, the data drive or the parity drive. I was looking for some tool that could performs checksums of the data on the drive and of the data ignoring the data drive and using the parity drive instead. Any mismatch would alert me something is wrong!
  13. Hi Weebo, thanks a lot anyway for your time and effort I appreciate it. I'll unalias mc and if needed will also unalias on the go file. Merry Christmas!
  14. it works here it goes: Tower login: root Password: Linux 2.6.32.9-unRAID. root@Tower:~# set -x -v root@Tower:~# mc mc + . /usr/share/mc/bin/mc-wrapper.sh MC_USER=`id | sed 's/[^(]*(//;s/).*//'` id | sed 's/[^(]*(//;s/).*//' +++ id +++ sed 's/[^(]*(//;s/).*//' ++ MC_USER=root MC_PWD_FILE="${TMPDIR-/tmp}/mc-$MC_USER/mc.pwd.$$" ++ MC_PWD_FILE=/tmp/mc-root/mc.pwd.16032 /usr/bin/mc -P "$MC_PWD_FILE" "$@" ++ /usr/bin/mc -P /tmp/mc-root/mc.pwd.16032 if test -r "$MC_PWD_FILE"; then MC_PWD="`cat "$MC_PWD_FILE"`" if test -n "$MC_PWD" && test -d "$MC_PWD"; then cd "$MC_PWD" fi unset MC_PWD fi ++ test -r /tmp/mc-root/mc.pwd.16032 rm -f "$MC_PWD_FILE" ++ rm -f /tmp/mc-root/mc.pwd.16032 unset MC_PWD_FILE ++ unset MC_PWD_FILE root@Tower:~#
  15. ok , here it goes: root@Tower:~# chmod a+rx /root/lw root@Tower:~# /root/lw mc -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 930056 2010-02-09 19:07 /usr/bin/mc root@Tower:~# alias alias clear='echo -e '\''\0033\0143'\''' alias d='dir' alias dir='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS --format=vertical' alias ls='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS' alias mc='. /usr/share/mc/bin/mc-wrapper.sh' alias v='vdir' alias vdir='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS --format=long' I think I'm getting the same messages as you do. I could unalias mc, (should I?), but aren't the aliases created at boot time?
  16. Sorry I didn't reply earlier Weebo, I really appreciate your time helping me, it's just been an hectic week at work I get this: root@Tower:~# chmod a+rx /root/lw chmod: cannot access `/root/lw': No such file or directory root@Tower:~# root@Tower:~# alias alias clear='echo -e '\''\0033\0143'\''' alias d='dir' alias dir='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS --format=vertical' alias ls='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS' alias mc='. /usr/share/mc/bin/mc-wrapper.sh' alias v='vdir' alias vdir='/bin/ls $LS_OPTIONS --format=long' Is the alias mc line right? thanks again for your help!
  17. ok, that's an option, how can I change the premissions? However, the issue is not writing to the folder rather than it can't find the folder. I'm sure it's a silly thing, but I can't get it to work. Anyone?
  18. Is this the only solution? It took me a while to get unRAID to the state is today, and for a newbie, I think is quite tweaked: I modified the myMain Disk configuration web page to add more info such as manufacturer web site or RMA number I added many custom links in the 'Useful links' tab Install many apps: SQL for XBMC, SNAP, Crashplan, Sab, CP, SB, and finally got them all to work Modify the myMain plugin main page with custom tabs and links The 'go' file is a bit tweaked also ... and some more I don't remember now... to be honest, I'd rather live without Midnight Commander than going throuhg all that process again, especially considering it's likely I have to go through it once unRAID 5 is out.
  19. This is what I get root@Tower:~# ls -l total 4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2011-01-12 06:17 initconfig -> /usr/local/sbin/initconfig* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 171 2011-01-12 06:17 mdcmd* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 2011-01-12 06:17 powerdown -> /usr/local/sbin/powerdown lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-01-12 06:17 samba -> /etc/rc.d/rc.samba* root@Tower:~#

  22. ok, so i logged out from terminal and logged in again and 'mc' command doesn't work. If I type '/usr/bin/mc'. It does work. I then typed again: /bin/bash pwd echo $PATH whereis mc set -x -v hash And I get again the 'mc' command to work. I also checked the syslog and can't see any reference to mc being killed. How can I make the changes permanent? syslog-2011-12-11.zip
  23. It should, we did not change anything permanently. If it stops running again, do the same commands. It may lead to some synonym or shell script named as mc. Should I add it to the go file or make a auto_install script?
  24. I followed the instructions and when I typed mc it opened midnight commander. Can I assume it will work on next reboot? output is: root@Tower:~# /bin/bash root@Tower:~# echo $PATH /usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:./:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/lib/java/jre/bin root@Tower:~# whereis mc mc: /usr/bin/mc /etc/mc /usr/bin/X11/mc /usr/libexec/mc /usr/share/mc root@Tower:~# set -x -v root@Tower:~# hash hash + hash hits command 1 /usr/bin/whereis root@Tower:~# mc mc + mc root@Tower:~# exit exit root@Tower:~# hash hash + hash hits command 1 /usr/bin/whereis 1 /usr/bin/mc
