  1. Just realized I could type "\\tower" in windows explorer and get to the server. Nothing shows up in network though. Oh well. I'll look into the domain master browser. At least I can get to my files in the meantime.
  2. Windows XP and XBMC (hardwired and wireless) can find the server fine. I can access the Web GUI from the Windows 7 machine via //tower Everything is hardwired with router and gigabit switch. Using DHCP. When I go to "network" on windows explorer, all I see is the Windows 7 machine. I turned off the firewall, turned on all sharing and network discovery options. I don't see the other computers, the router, nothing.
  3. Just installed Windows 7 this weekend and I can't get it to find my server. I tried to follow the directions below from another thread. I couldn't even find those settings. Typed secpol.msc into run and it wasn't found. Apparently it's not in the Home Premium version of 7. What should I try next? Thanks.
  4. My server went down over a year ago. At the time, I was busy with other things, not really using my theater at all, and had other priorities. It has been sitting for a long while. I finally got around to getting it fixed. Everything is running now after a new mobo and an Unraid software update. Here's the problem. I have no idea which drive is which. I used to have a sheet of paper that I kept notes on about what drives are which, but that has been lost. Any tips for how to deduce which drive is the parity drive? 4 identical WD 1 TB drives and one of them is the parity so I have a 1 in 4 chance.
  5. Wow. Just noticed that the syslog is from 2007. What the???
  6. My server has been humming along for a long time without any incident, but after a reboot a few days ago, it won't come back online. I'm stuck at loading bzroot. It never progresses any further. I was running 4.0 so I tried upgrading to the newest stable version but nothing changed. Any suggestions as to where to start?
  7. Thanks for all of your research. I'm going to start building a house next spring that will be Solar powered. I'm going to have to rethink a lot of my power usage, including my Unraid server. Your posts are a real help.
  8. I thought I would resurrect this old thread instead of creating a new one. I have the same issue. Not all of my shares or even all of my disks show up in Network places. It's not that big of a deal, because I can just navigate to the actual server and they are there. But, it's annoying to not have them all show up in Network places. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  9. Ok. I was too busy to work on it for the last couple weeks. Today I had some time and I did two things. I swapped out the RAM for 2 X 1GB sticks. More than enough and I'm fairly sure that the RAM is good. Also, I upgraded to 4.2.1, thinking that my problems were related to the problems in the other thread. I have certainly gotten that error message a lot. The changes didn't help. I am still having the same problem. I lose network connectivity to the server after a length of time, about an hour or so. I can't telnet in or access via network places or windows explorer. Sometimes I have to hard reboot with the PSU switch and sometimes the front reset button works. I tried to attach my syslog, but it wont' allow it. The file is only 53K but I'm getting told it is too large. Weird. Thanks for any help.
  10. I'm logged in (sort of) but I can't use any commands. EDIT: Ok..that's not true. I could use commands, but it locked up within 10 minutes. Even with User shares turned off now. I'm really thinking this is a memory problem, like everyone has suggested. I'm going to try some other RAM today and see how it does.
  11. Well now, I'm stuck. When I telnet in and tried login as root, I get an error message that says (disconnect bypassed -- root login not allows). I've tried rebooting 3 times and I always get the same message.
  12. Well 4.2 beta didn't fix it. It locked up again. So you think it could be running out of memory? My question would be, why would it run just fine for a year with no problems and then run out of memory all of a sudden? What should be my next step in troubleshooting? I never did run reiserfsck. I guess I should look into that.
  13. Thanks for the info on oldpath. That makes sense. I turned off all shares and it seemed stable. Of course with all shares turned off, I couldn't test read/write for stability. Then I turned on disk shares and moved a few gigs to two separate disks at the same time. Plus, I streamed an .avi file to XBMC from a different disk. It seems stable for now. So that means that something screwy is going on with User Shares. I'll try to install the 4.2 beta today and report back.
  14. It locked up this afternoon without me really accessing it. The only thing I did was copy the syslog so that I could post it. It locked up within 30 minutes of powering it up.
