i think that is what is happening, if i close the stream in plex it goes. if the app is just shut on ios or windows it stays there. getting people to close the stream correctly is not an option. so far they have stayed for half hour. im curious as to if they will go or not. one of the ones stuck is some ones TV app crashed so they started watching again and that on is stuck there. i hope that they dont stay stuck until i restart the docker as once the Vram is used up no more streams can start

oh so they take time to go? how long does it usually take for it to clear from the smi?

OK i have it working (big thanks to PDUCharme for helping me out and putting up with my stupidity) and endiz above. However i have one slight issue. when i watch a stream it uses the gpu now. however once i finish it does not close the transcoder down so now my plex is playing nothing yet this is what i get in nidvia-smi. its uses all the Vram and i cannot play anything. if i restart the container it works but i end up here again.

I have tried this but now plex does not work at all "Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error." is the error i get in plex. i have the binhex-plexpass" docker if this make any difference?

Interesting ! i really hope so as i have a GPU sitting on 2-3% watching a 4k film and my CPU on 100% lol!! was hoping to free up the cpu so that it can be used for other task again.

Well that just put out my fire lol! i grabbed the 1060 to stop this high CPU load lol. so effectively adding the card has done pretty much zero for me do we have a time frame of if/when plex are going to add hardware decode? feel i just dropped a load of cash on a total waste of money lol. I have too many plex users to change to another format + some of their smart TV's are unlikely to support EMBY tbh. what a shame i wish i had worked this out before hand

I am hoping some one can help me, I have installed a GTX1060 to do my transcoding, i followed the space invader one instructions to the letter and i think its sort of working. However my CPU is still going ballistic and two 4k streams it starts suffering. I am getting confirmation in the Nvidia-smi that its doing somthing but its certainly not taking the load of the CPU here are some screen grabs i hope some one can help. (plex has Use hardware acceleration when available turned on) Edit: i am using the binhex-plespass docker if this makes any difference

You will see no difference between a x8 or x16 slot your all good

Ah that’s a shame £400 seems a bit steep for what I want to do. I guess I can go this route but was hoping a cheaper card would have worked

Hi All Well this has made my day finding this and is AMAZING ! however i have two questions that i hope some one more knowledgeable than me can answer. I currently use Binhex-Plexpass (i have plex premium) will this work or will i need to change to the official docker? If i do have to change can i take my library "status" with me? i.e what i have and have not watched etc? what GPU should i purchase? I would like to be in a position to transcode 6 X 1080p streams and possibly 1 4k stream with 3 or 4 other 1080p streams going. the P2000 Quadro is a bit expensive so how many streams would say a quadro P400 handle? is there a minimum spec i need for more than 2 streams? I understand its a quadro card i need but i dont want to drop £300-400 on a P2000 if i really dont "need" it. I have no idea what Quadro is what as this will be my first even toe into the Quadro world. Thanks in advance to whoever helps out on this one

thanks this answers my question quite a bit and also looks like others are getting the same results with this card with some people claiming 10-15 streams not even getting the GPU to 50% usage! although i was hoping to grab a cheaper card as i certainly dont need 10-15 steams let alone possibly the card handling more. 6 streams is perfect so ideally would like to find a lesser card capable of doing just what i need.

well the Quadro cards say unrestricted. but how many will they actually do? im looking to transcode 6X 1080p films at a time

This is very very cool, is there anyway i can find out what sort of card i will need to transcode a few streams? I.e buying a Quadro 4000 card will transcode 2 1080p streams or 10 for example?

Hi Guys So i have a system with 12 drives in it, its done me well but about about 5/6 years old now and im running out of CPU grunt. My machine does the following Plex transcoding (4k) yes the current cpu will transcode 4K at 90-95% load (single stream) but often have 3/4 users using the plex library so cant do 4k if this is the case Virtual machine that does a little bit of video encoding work CCTV server (3 cameras currently recording using xpenology as its the lightest application i can find on cpu) File server for 5/6 users Future machine will have two Windows VM's would like to move away from a xpenology VM for IP cctv cameras but cannot decide on what software to use. So i clearly need more cpu horsepower. I dont want to spend a fortune (£400-500) and i am happy with a decent second hand (recent ish) hardware. Ideally i would like a dual CPU board so i can add another CPU or even start with two. more threads are needed ideally minimum 6c/12t cpu's I already have a BIG rackmount case, beefy psu and all my HDD's I will need Motherboard (again ideally dual socket but no idea on chipsets etc) CPU/'s RAM Current CPU is E3-1226 v3 with 16gb DDR3 ECC but ideally would like to use this elsewhere. I keep finding bargain servers on ebay etc but although some are dual slot 6c12t setups with 96gb ram they are slow clock speeds so not really too sure what if any benefits i will get. I guess transcoding and VM's are my heaviest loads. TIA

Cheers mate looks like a fairly simple procedure will get a bigger replacement. seems strange that it "has" to rebuild and i cannot just copy it since its still working at the moment Out of interest what determines that its failing. Not that i done believe it, I do as it has errors but just out of interest since it says its passing its smart test etc.

Can i download a specific diagnostic for that disk or do you need entire server file?

Hi all so my system is showing 71 errors on one of my disks. is this a sign the disk is about to fail? If so, can i replace the disk with a bigger disk and rebuild onto that? whats the best course of action i should take here? Also noticed that its not showing the disk temp anymore on that disk

Cheers mate will give it a go, if i reboot the system it does not help but if i shutdown the system then manually press the power putton it comes on just fine. I will try changing the slot and see what happens. How strange.... Thanks for looking tho

Hi all I posted about this a while back but a manual reset on the actual server cures the problem or at least it did last time. however i would like to know why this is happening. basically after a power failure when the power returns the server automatically boots up but my parity disk and another disk (both 4tb WD reds) are missing. This is really confusing me and i would love to get to the bottom of this. Unfortunately last time i could not upload the diagnostics as i reset the unit and it seemed to solve it that time but this time i will leave it until i can get to the bottom on it. I have attached the Diagnostics as others recommended last time but this time before i reboot the system. just a side note both drives are spinning and "alive" they are weirdly both 4TB reds and the only 4TB drives in the system if this makes any difference Thanks everyone in advance for help. tower-diagnostics-20181122-0210.zip

cheers buddy i will grab them next time it happens. weird as both those drives are on a PCI-E card however 4 drives are and the other 2 where detected just fine. just the 2 4TB WD's thanks for the willingness to help. DO i just post all those files?

hmmm strange i reset the server via the GUI 3 times and nothing. my server is tucked away in the garage went out there actually powered it down and then back on and its working. Will the diagnostics still show what happened as if so would still like to post them? I have downloaded them but several files do i just host all the files? Concerned that something still is not quite right?
