  1. Ok..  I guess that makes sense.  I forgot about the tools syslog thing!  and now with color coding!!

(probably been there for a while I just didn't upgrade!) Now I don't have to use unmenu for that anymore! :-)

Kudos to Boniel(sp?) for the continued fantastic job on the Gui developments!!

If you are using the same stick, yes. In fact it might be even simpler that that. Just booting with the same stick should maintain your array configuration.

It did!!  like magic!!!  New MB.  New CPU.  New Memory. New storage card.

Bam!  The array came up ready to run!  I was shocked!  (and very happy!!!!)

Thank You Limetech for making this robust!  I remember in the past that the software often times didn't see moved drives very well and we did have to new config and trust parity

And then there was that funky command "set something something.."

    :D:D:D

  3. I just got my new MB/CPU/Mem all set up!  This new MB has dual intel nics on board.

I tried to set up teaming in Unraid and it mostly failed.  It looks like the teaming worked but I couldn't

access it the way I did before.

The router I have it on supports teaming and, I believe, is set up correctly.  I have a Win machine that is also using teaming

and I can see everything on that machine just fine.  What was really weird was that I COULD see unraid from the other teaming machine... but no other machines

on my network.  From another win machine I would see the unraid box in the network browser but it gave me an error when I tried to see any of the shares.  I also couldn't

get to the unraid gui webpage either from any machine other than my other win7 teaming machine, I believe...

Is there something I'm missing?  I set up unraid for bonding and selected the 802.3ad option.

As soon as I turned off bonding, Everything is accessible like in the past.

  4. I don't know if I have the latest.. but it was saying 2011..  Maybe I'll look into it to see what's out there and if the release notes show anything "compelling" with the latest release.

If it can see my 8T drives and run them at speed, then I'm not going to touch anything! O.o

Now I'll have to search the forum again to try to remember how to transfer all my disks to a new machine without losing any data! :o

  5. I was getting all freaked out that my new MB/CPU and memory wasn't working right since it was failing memtest86+ 5.01.  The original thread is here.

To summarize I was getting errors on the block move test when using parallel CPU mode.  So I did a little digging and others (non unraid folks) had this issue too

with an earlier version of memtest86 (not memtest86+).  They supposedly fixed it in a later version.

So for grins..  I tried memtest86+ 5.01 on two of my work machines (that are rock stable) and sure enough if I just ran the block test in low memory (<10M) multi parallel CPU, I got errors there too.

So I felt better that the issue was with memtest!  So I ran the latest memtest86 (not memtest86+) V7.something on my new hardware with the memory OC'ed and it ran for two days without errors in multi CPU mode. Now it only seems to run 4 of the 8 virtual cores..  But that might be by design..

Some links to look at: http://linerate.blogspot.com/2014/03/memory-errors-in-memtest86-and.html  which sites this article.

So be wary of memtest86+ that ships with Unraid.

  6. I did attach a disk and it saw it fine.  I was also able to set the MB bios to not run the storage bios.  So I'm back to fast booting.. Now that means I can' boot from this card...   But I wasn't planning on that anyway..  Once I get things all set I might re-enable it because I don't care how long it takes to boot if I'm rebooting once a month or less.  But for now it was

VERY annoying when I'm rebooting every 5 minutes!!! :D

Just for grins I'll try it in another system and see if maybe the UEFI is causing it to run extremely slow (some sort of emulated mode??)

I did enter the control section of the card bios and I saw nothing funky..

Question...  This card, by default, runs IT firmware, right?  I shouldn't have to re-flash it???

    And thanks bjp!

  7. I ran the latest version of Memtest86 (from passmark) in uefi mode multi core..  With the memory OC to 2666 and it ran overnight with no errors.

So I don't trust the stock memtest86+ 5.01 in parallel CPU mode...

All my frustration was for nothing! :-(

Now I can transfer the hardware tonight!

    Jim

  8. The more and more I read...  It seems like parallel CPU testing is not reliable.

I don't know which version of memtest86+ equated to which version of memtest..  but as of V4.3 of memtest they made the default multi-cpu test to be round robin

    Look here

So now I start again in round robin mode or at least change the memory range to start above 10M...

  9. Ha!  I think it might be an issue with memtest!!!  I've tried memtest on two different machines at work and they both give similar errors!  not as frequently..  but they do give errors.

My work machines are rock stable.  The standalone memtest (not memtest+) seems to run fine with 4.7.something..  But it only seems to exercise 4 cores (out of 8 )

I can't get the uefi capable V7 something to run on my newer dell machine at work with more than 1 core.  Some UEFI Bios limitation.  Oh well.. Maybe my new machine at home will

be able to run the V7 multi core version.

If anyone is bored and wants to try and duplicate my test..  Try running memtest with an upper limit of 10M and just run test 7 (block move) in parallel CPU mode.

  10. Google hasn't come up with anything..

    I"m using a ASRock Z270 Gaming K6 with a I7-7700 processor.

    The memory is G.SKILL Ripjaw VSeries 2 x 8GB DDR4 2666.

Some memory I grabbed from work show the same symptoms.

I'll try to grab a beefier power supply from work..  But I doubt that since slowing the ram and processor didn't help.

I'm really leaning toward RMAing the CPU....

I wish I could test the CPU in another board!!  Or Grab another CPU to test in this MB!

    Maybe work has one..

  11. I've narrowed it down to the block test failing.  If I just run that test it fails pretty quickly.  If I run the test single core it seems to run ok.  Multi core fails quickly.  over clocked fails, stock fails, underclocked fails.  CPU underclocked fails too.

2nd set of DIMMS from work fails too.

This is the 2nd MB since the first showed the same errors and had bent pins.

    Could it be the CPU??

  12. I just got a new MB/CPU/Memory.

I'm having issues running memtest for a long period of time.  I eventually get errors.

I just updated the BIOS of the M/B and I"m re-running.

    I'm running memtest 5.01.

I can boot the win7 install disk..  I can boot to the unraid gui...

Should I be able to run memtest overnight without errors?

Is the Supermicro card you have an AOC-SASLP-MV8. That card can have compatibility issues with unRaid, and would suggest replacing it.

You might read this to better understand if you need a PCIe 2.0 card. In general I would say yes.

I'd have to look and see what card I have.  But I've been running fine with it for years now. So I doubt there are any compatibility issues unless there is when plugging into my new MB.

I'm currently looking at a SAS9201-8i 6GB PCIe Express 2.0  I found one on e-bay for $44....  so I might just buy it.

  14. I'm going to upgrade my whole unraid system..  Right now I have some supermicro 8 port add in card

    that I believe is pci-e 1.0 and sata 3Gb/s

Is it worth upgrading to a pci-e 2.0 card that is Sata 6Gb/s?

I'm going to have a NVMe 250GB disk as a cache and use some of the onboard 6GB/s (6 of them, I believe)  for parity

and the other big disks and use the other card for the smaller (older) disks.

So it is worth upgrading if I have such a fast cache drive?  I'm looking at a SAS9201-8i on e-bay for $44..  I assume my cables would still work?

It's mainly used for media backup but the new server will host my home DVR as well

    Thanks,
