  1. I assumed that since the pro 3.1 card is not the same as the 3.0 card, that there would be its own problems. but it sounds like this has been documented and tested as working with unraid. Still, if i have learned one thing from this forum is things arent always as they appear. have you confirmed that the 3.1 pro card works with unraid? Often people just refer to the "Pro" card and there are 2 different cards we are talking about here. Thanks, Charles Lam
  2. Thats what the issue was. i guess the bios option for intel virtualization is not the same as intel VT-D. Thanks for the reminder.

  4. coming back here to rez an old thread. unfortunately the allegro pro is no longer being produced and i cant find it anywhere on ebay. has there been another method to getting USB's passed through correctly? or are there just no options for something like this?
  5. I also wonder about this. because ive noticed that many many threads mention to disable hibernation as this causes problems when waking the system up. maybe it'd be smart to hit up the tier 2 and see what their response is. Good luck.
  6. I've gotten around to trying the nyrius aries prime, and unfortunately the lag is so bad that it will not work. until wireless or networked HDMI improves i will be stuck using hdmi cables.
  7. The digi has worked really well over the network. it is almost seemless. As for the sewell HDMI, it looks like that is a no-go as you cant have multiple transmitters and receivers on the same network. instead i will be looking into this product: http://www.tesla-smart.com/120M-HDMI-KVM-Many-to-Many-Over-IP-Exten?product_id=100 I figured more people would be interested in this as you can bypass USB passthrough altogether, as it would be using a networked USB connection. But i guess not.
  8. good luck finding out if the tripplite UPS has that data or not. im not sure, but i wouldnt be surprised if you didnt get the info from the UPS necessary for this to work. kind of one of the selling points of the SNMPWebcard. regardless good luck OP. but looks like crickets so far anyways.
  9. if unraid has that functionality with tripplite UPS' thats great. still need to buy the card. the functionality is pretty limited without one. having it plug in with usb wont send a shutdown command when the battery is low. i dont think it keeps battery stats without one.
  10. uhhh. you need an SNMP card for it. and then the card will send network commands to your windows VM's to shut it down. iirc there is an application you can use. but i dont think it works for the unraid OS itself. so you might have to look into only shutting down the VM's to minimize data corruption.
  11. https://sewelldirect.com/hd-link-pro-by-sewell-hdmi-over-single-cat5-extender-1080p-330-ft- HDMI https://www.digi.com/products/models/aw-usb-2 USB i already purchased the digi usb and will soon get the sewell HDMI over network. currently have pretty good fiber networking through the house so i shouldnt need to worry about putting too much of a strain on the network. my worries are that the latency from having everything on network will prove to be too bad for gaming. i will try these on a VM and see what the results are like.
  12. if you dont use vm's i say cheaper the better.
  13. he does tell you everything you really need to know. but sometimes you will have to watch it over and over again because you might miss subtle things. things i learned 1.USB audio is spotty at best in unraid. save yourself the headache and do usb passthrough. mileage still may vary though. usb audio can be real head scratchers sometimes. 2. ASMedia usb controllers are evil (or at least the ones i've worked with). simpler to use asmedia controllers only for booting unraid. 3. SSD's are essential if you plan on using your VM's as a normal windows PC. i tried on platters and it just took forever to do anything. probably is fine on VNC or linux or something more efficient but thats my experience. 4. there are never enough pci-e slots and usb ports. good luck.
  14. or start fresh on a temp usb just to rule out crazy config problems...
  15. That was one of the cards i was curious about. are you able to pass through the slave and master controllers separately? or does it just only show as one usb controller?
  16. thats an old raid card for sure. looks like a perc6i. limited to 2tb. slow. and gets hot like the devil (burned my hand on one). the connectors look questionable.... to my knowledge the 6i's werent capable of talking to SAS drives, but i guess im wrong on that. lolz. thats why there is a strange notch in there (for more pins to communicate to a SAS drive vs. a Sata). im sure you figured all that out. personally i'd rip all that stuff out and start fresh with a better raid card. but power might be a limitation in that setup. that SAS connector to the raid card is looks like a SFF-8482 but most are SFF-8088. Looks like there are converter plugs on ebay, so if you decide to go a different route, their might be options. good luck. reference: https://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_adapters/sff-8482/ https://www.ebay.com/i/251525355434?chn=ps&dispItem=1
  17. i appreciate the info. but at the end of the day i just deleted the vdisks and started from scratch. the reinstall went alot faster than i thought it would. SSD's for a VM are a must if you want to game on the VMs.
  18. cables are usually the first thing to troubleshoot. cheapest solutions first
  19. SSD's definitely fix the speed issue. they are operating like normal barebones systems. what i have also discovered. things seem to be faster with hyperthreading turned on, but the cpu pairs being dedicated to the appropriate vm's. VM's dont like macrium reflect and rescue disks.
  20. when people cant figure out how to use print screen, i often refer them to a program called "greenshot". makes it easier to do screenshots of things and you can crop the picture. gl
  21. to clarify, the shrinking occurs when the image gets loaded onto the new vdisk. macrium makes images only of files it can see. so for example on a bare metal install of my gaming pc. i may have a 3tb drive, but it will only make an image of 1tb of data and can image a drive bigger than 1tb onward. works well on traditional set ups. does not work well on VM's apparently. i know its something to do with fixing the mbr. but my traditional tools on fixing this wont work it appears.
  22. well i went to bed because the gf demanded it. woke up this morning, and tried booting from the newly created vdisk. it appears the data gets created successfully but the boot info does not (such as mbr info). Time to start from scratch.
  23. pfsense for the win. i use an amd quad-core in mine. low power, at most hits 30 watts. typically at 20 watts. those micro-itx boards work well for this sort of thing. i have mine with a mellanox connectx-2 fiber card in it and added the driver for pfsense to see it. i know mine is overkill but its future proof.
