Hi folks just an education for me I was having terrible issues with drives just dropping out when I would reboot or restart the server, I heard all of you suggesting that it most likely a cable issue, I bought contact cleaner and it did nothing I replaced the cables with new Mini SAS to SATA Cable and that corrected the issue so how does a cable degrade

So I have my server back up and running however prior to going down many months ago I was having drives drop out randomly I recall many threads that indicated a cable issue for which I agree I have 2 HBA's the current cables are cable matters are they good or is there a better brand that you would consider I have electronic contact cleaner and that has made a reasonable difference but it seems like if I power down is when the drive/s drop out Thanks Chris

I did and thank you some things have changed and I didn't see it staring me right in the face

Ok yeah I now see that all the drives are listed as unassigned devices and not actually on line lots of things seem to have changed and my memory is crap any idea how to now assign the drives not sure what the next move is posted the diags in the event someone can read the tea leaves I'm sure its simple but not to me Thanks Think I found it was staring me right in the face homenas-diagnostics-20251218-1409.zip

Great that worked I see my files on the drives but things really changed as I don't see where to check parity did that get moved somewhere and thanks by the way! Chris

Hi folks its been quite a while since I've posted my server had a major failure around a year ago the usb stick was literally snapped off when m dog chased my cat behind my desk ( yeah I know its the dog ate my homework moment😂) so I've just got around to work on it my only question is now that I have it up what is the procedure if there is one to restore what is already on the drives namely my music and video collection probably around 8TB worth appreciate any help offered Chris

Its been quite a few years and life got in the way I have 2 keys but one of them has a damaged USB drive and cannot be accessed I kinda remember possibly the key can be issued after a year or so is that still the case? Thanks

I went back to look when my last scheduled parity check was it was Nov 2nd and it passed I do not think I made any changes but I did have a fail disk which I found was a cable issue, could a plugin update cause a change as in maybe to a default setting I just have not made changes in a long time as it has been running quite fine as it is anyway as always thank you for the info as it was the mover set for every hour instead of what I believe I had set to nightly

When I run a parity check it does not complete it stops randomly did I miss something in an update homenas-diagnostics-20230415-1157.zip

As always thank you I now remember FCP complaining about this I think I may have deleted it thinking it was deprecated but no doubt my mistake thanks again!

Its been awhile so maybe I missed something there used to be the options to copy, move, delete and so on under the shares but maybe I have something misconfigured I'm on Version 6.11.5 2022-11-20

Sorry for the late response I was out of the country for several weeks, I got it sorted out I did a new config and pulled the bad drive

Ok some progress I have tried rebooting but I had not tried shutting down I did that and one of the 2 drives has come back up and was able to start the array will monitor but I will likely replace the drives

No all 4 bays are filled and the 2 are working in that cage machine is currently headless

they are inserted in a 4 bay drive cage I've removed and reinserted several times to see if they would show up but no luck

Installed that long ago and never had a use case so forgot that it was still there, promptly removed

Hi its been so long I can't figure out how to get the server up and running after 2 drives dropped off the start button is greyed out I don't see them as unassigned devices any help appreciated

Any tricks to keeping the license persistent I installed the app deactivated my license from my dedicated pc and applied it to the app here it seemed to accept it as the demo watermark went away but it seems to have dropped it on a restart is there something I've missed?

Any takers I format the thumb drive use the usb creator tool everything boots up fine on the first boot but if I reboot I get a bzroot checksum error this is on a Dell poweredge R710 it is a backup server and only turned on every now and again to backup my primary this has occured on to different licenses that I have is this a memory issue? I have made no changes in the bios that would suggest I was the cause
