  1. ah, I wasn't aware of that! in that case, the licence is included free of charge with no guarantee of support... original post updated to include this.
  2. Hi, I'm selling my old UnRAID server (and APC UPS). It has served me well for years with zero problems. Drive replacements always went smoothly with no downtime or data loss, as you'd expect from UnRAID 🙂 This is a working, wiped, fresh install with UnRAID PRO licence. The licence cannot be transferred to another user so is included free of charge, as is, without support. The drives are a few years old but work fine with no bad sectors - before shutting down the machine I did a parity check and it completed with 0 errors and average speed of 112MB/s. I have included screenshots of config pages, all SMART reports etc. I've been on this forum since 2011, I can also send you a message from my ebay account where I've sold quite a few high-value items with 100% positive feedback. I'd prefer collection from Mold, North Wales if possible. I could deliver within a reasonable radius for small additional cost. I will also be driving down to Gloucestershire and up to Yorkshire in December so could potentially meet there, or on the way. Both units are large and heavy so would prefer not to post. Specs: - Rackmount ATX case with 16x external SATA drive bays (3.5 or 2.5) and 2x internal 2.5 - EVGA 550 GS 80+ GOLD 550W PSU (rebranded Seasonic!) - ASRock C226 Workstation Motherboard - Intel Xeon E2-1230 4C/8T @ 3.30GHz - 16GB DDR3 ECC RAM - Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 8-port SAS/SATA card - 3x Noctua quiet fans - UnRAID Pro licence - 6x WD RED 4TB - 1x WD RED 2TB - 1x Samsung 840 SSD 120GB (cache) - Sandisk 16GB USB drive APC 1U Rackmount 1000VA UPS - SUA1000RMI1U Smart-UPS - The UPS connects to the server via USB, and can cleanly shut it down in case of extended power outage. - PLEASE NOTE: the batteries in the UPS are a few years old. They still work fine but I have no idea how much life is left in them. They are not expensive to replace, with plenty of UK companies doing cheap compatible replacements. Price: £750
  3. Hello again - This problem is still occurring - and it's very frustrating! Transfers to both my Windows (SMB) and Linux (NFS) clients keep stalling for no reason. Nothing in UnRaid logs, nothing obvious, drive tests are fine. I find that restarting the Samba daemon helps the problem (/etc/rc.d/rc.samba restart) - but only for a while, then the stalling starts again. Does anyone have any further suggestions of where to look or tests I can run?? thanks in advance
  4. Ah! Yes the cache_dirs plugin was running - I disabled it and now have 100MB/s parity check. I'm still expecting this slow disk speed problem to come back though... but at least that explains one thing! Thanks
  5. That was with all dockers and VMs stopped... and no client activity I think? I can double check that though. Would there be any other explanation?
  6. OK. It seems like restarting the array a few times has stopped the problem occurring for now -- but I know it will come back! Annoying how intermittent it is... also - i now get 20 to 30MB/s parity check speed. If I start in maintenance mode and do a parity check, I get over 100Mb/s. Is this normal?
  7. So I'm doing a parity check - speed starts at 30MB/s but then drops to 500KB/s ...
  8. So this seems to be affecting my VMs as well. I have a Windows Server VM which is experiencing the same issue - stalled disk access or extremely slow speeds, for a period of time (several seconds). I guess this rules out network isses? Sounds like a disk problem maybe?

  10. Hi I've been having some trouble with my Unraid 6.1.9 server over the last few weeks. It keeps randomly stalling file transfers for several seconds. - It's very intermittent, some days it will happen a lot, other days it will only happen once or twice - This happens on multiple client machines, some Windows (SMB) some Linux (NFS). - I've tried restarting all network devices (modem, router, switch) and server and clients. - Nothing out of the ordinary appears in /var/log/syslog or dmesg - All SMART reports are fine. - I've done drive read/write tests on each drive with hdparm, good speeds each time. - I'm running several Dockers and VMs - not sure if this is related? Tried stopping them all - problem still happens. any help much appreciated! i'm quite familiar with unraid and linux - but i'm running out of ideas. if anyone has any suggestions of things to try or logs to look at, especially when the problem is occurring, that would be great thanks in advance some system info: UnRAID 6.1.9 M/B: ASRock - C226 WS CPU: Intel® Xeon® CPU E3-1230 v3 @ 3.30GHz HVM: Enabled IOMMU: Enabled Cache: 256 kB, 1024 kB, 8192 kB Memory: 16384 MB (max. installable capacity 32 GB) Network: eth0: 1000Mb/s - Full Duplex eth1: not connected Kernel: Linux 4.1.18-unRAID x86_64 OpenSSL: 1.0.1s
  11. Hi, thanks for your response, I'm running Windows 7. I've tried disabling SMB2 and SMB3 with no effect.
  12. OK - an update on this issue... It's still pretty bad and makes using UnRAID with Windows a headache. I've noticed that: - It only happens with SMB, if I connect using NFS there's no issue (hence why it was working in Ubuntu). - Sometimes if I restart the Samba server it temporarily makes things better, but not always. Just wondering if anyone has any further suggestions?
  13. Still no solution for me adding the server to the hosts file made no difference. It seems to have got worse now - every folder takes a while to open, with some taking 30 seconds or so. I've discovered something else --- when the 'delay' is happening, all other network activity stalls on the client machine. Any web browser pages stop loading, music playing off the server stops, and network file transfers stall. Does this ring a bell for anyone? It's definitely beginning to sound like maybe some weird network issue. I still haven't tried directly connecting the machine to the server - need to get hold of a long cat6 cable - but I will do this soon.
  14. I've tried disabling all client side security software. In fact, the problem happens with a clean install of Win7 running in a virtual machine. Which is what leads me to believe it's a server config or network issue... Next I may try connecting my main client PC to the server using a crossover cable to rule out routers/switches etc...
