can anyone tell me based on the log im posting whether or not the issue is my hard drive or possibly the sata controller or sata cable. I had this issue happen on another drive the other day. I restarted and it came back into the pool but I had to rebuild it. Any help would be appreciated

So this same issue happened with another drive the other day where it failed and then simulated. After restarting it seemed to recover. What I would like to determine if possible is, is it the drive or could it be something with the sata expansion card or sata cable causing this issue. If anyone might be able to determine based on my log it would be helpful. Thanks all

So like my title says I am looking for some backup software. Free or paid I just need it to do what I need. If it can work with unraid that would be awesome, If not I will run it in a VM but here is what I am looking to do. I have 2 network folders that I need backed up. One is on a production machine with the folder shared to the network and the other is a Readyshare folder that is shared from a hard drive connected to the NAS port on my router. What I would like to do is back this data up and store it on my unraid server in case either of these locations become compromised. But With the back up I would like it to not overwrite the previous back up for an a period of time so that if there were changes made to a file that were in error or if something were deleted in error I can open a backup copy from say yesterday and restore what is wrong. or Restore a excel file that was incorrectly edited, saved and backed up.. This is why I don't want it to overwrite at least the last 2 - 3 back ups. Can anyone help with a solution to this.. I have looked into things like dropbox, syncthing and others but they simply sync, not backup. I seen craahplan but it looks like folks are getting away from that.. Thanks everyone who replies.

I have just finishing building a PFSENSE, I don't want this to happen again. since I am coming from a windows server where it ran software level firewall and not unraid does not have this option I did not have a firewall up of any kind other then the NAT on the router which is pretty much useless and I had server DMZ'd because I forgot I didn't have the software firewall any more so I am mostly responsible for this happening. but now. PFSense is up right after the ONT and before the ROUTER and only ports that are needed for server to run on every thing else is closed. Thanks a lot for the responses!

Ok Thank you. I don't know what this asshole did other then Wipe all my drives clean. I worry he had placed something on my usb that is going to let him back in. Im building a Pfsense firewall now and I am pre clearing all my drives again. Do you think that is enough. Since he cleared my drives I am at the point of starting over fresh again. HIs name was Barok and left a text file that said BAROK WAS HERE and another that said FUCK OFF>.. what a asshole.

also I reloaded a new copy of unraid incase this asshat left anything on the server to compromise it. when I loaded the new version I checked the log and I'm getting this error.. should I be concerned.

I dont on linux. I have no idea where to start

I woke up this morning and noticed that some of my folders were missing. I then logged in to the server and seen 1 drive what was spun down. After spinning it up it didn't fix it so I rebooted and now Everything is gone. All dockers and ALL MY FILES! 24 TB now show gone. All drives show empty All my dockers are missing and only apps show available. ! SOMEONE HELP How can I attempt to recover this!!! HELP

I think I have found the solution to this from another post I read. This worked for me perfectly. When building your VM, Before creating it select BIOS to SeaBIOS instead of OVMF. By making this change fixed my boot up issue. Hope this helps guys

I have been having this issue with this same thing. I've downloaded multiple versions both from the Microsoft page, torrent, and even ripped it off another working copy I use to install onto computers and all I get is what is showed in the image. I hit exit, it takes me to a bios style screen and then continue brings me right back to the same screen... help. *****So after trying a Slackware iso I got the same screen. So this has to be something in the unraid software and configuration

I am really not a fan of this FTP. I think its a poor alternative. Any info on how to get the ports forwarded to the VM? or I would be willing to let someone remote in and help with the unraid FTP.. Thanks anyone who is willing.

Thanks for the response. I have attempted this plugin and I know it says "highly configurable" but its nearly impossible to configure it, well atleast thats how I feel. I can't find a solid document which makes configuring this even remotely easy. . Im going to re-read this thread and give it another go. thanks

Unless I am mistaken there is no real solution for an FTP server with unraid. So what I decided to do is run a windows 7 vm and run the FTP server on that. Now with that said I have 2 issues. I have give my VM access to all cores and 4gb of ram and still it seems like the VM runs like a turtle. aside from this the biggest issue I have the I can't seem to figure out is how to forward the local ports to the VM Ip since it is different from the real local IP. If anyone has a solution outside of using a VM to provide an FTP server I am open to it. Otherwise can someone please assist me in passing the port access off to the VM. Thanks

I have a basic question I am hoping to get answered. Its a n00bish question but I can't find a direct answer... When assigning CPU to a VM does it immediately take it away from the Non VM side for example.... I have plex and its heavy on my cpu. I have an 9 core 16thread Ryzan 1700x. If I were to assign 4 cores to a VM. does that immediately take that away from whats available for plex leaving Plex with just 4 cores when the VM is running or is it that the VM can use UP to 4 cores. I ask because I see that the ram immediately gets used. thanks.

thanks for the response but in that post they are already running the 6.4 I don't understand where to get it at. should I use the USB downloader? Also anytime I have rewrote the usb to fix an issue with my current version I lost my dockers like open VPN and others and had to reconfigure. How would I go about actually doing the upgrade and then I can follow the info in the attached thread to update the syslinux. Thanks
