  2. Hello, I am building my first unraid 4.7 machine, 10 2tb disks to start (1 being the parity). I just assigned each disk but when I go back to the main screen the disk 1 and disk 2 are showing 2 disks each I am not sure why? I think these may be 2 disks I used previously to test, could something have not been cleared out from before? disk 1 S/N should end in NPR disk 2 S/N should end in TLS disk 3 S/N should end in 3NQ per my assignments. any help is greatly appreciated. I have attached screen snapshots for the main screen and 1 for when I click on one of the disks from the main screen thanks! [/img] John
  3. Thanks... but all fan areas/vent areas look like they are for fans larger than 80mm. more like the 120mm pre installed fans... does the smaller fan just fit in and not use all the vent space? Thanks again
  4. Hello, I recently ordered all parts for the 12 Drive Budget Box (alternate) setup. I have receoved the fans and case so far. My question is... the fans recommended are 80mm fans. WHere in this case (Xigmatek Utgard Mesh CPC-T90DB-U03) are these 3 80mm fans supposed to be installed? I see each drive cage comes with a 120mm fan. Can anyone point me to where these 3 recommended fans should be installed? 5. Hello, I am finally ready to jump into and build my first unraid box. I have been following the forums for a while now. now that 5.0 beta has been out a while with upgrades now to 5.0-beta13, how does everyone feel about 3tb drive usage as well as the overall stability of 5.0-beta13? Should I run with 5.0-beta13 or stick with 4.7? thanks John
  6. Hello, It looks like it takes about 31 hours to pre clear a 2 tb disk. My question is , is it possible to run pre clear simultaneously for more than 1 disk? maybe have multiple telnet sessions open? thanks
  7. I did a preclear on the 2tb disk which took 31 hours and then it allowed me to format. does this behaviour make sense? again, I am very new to all this so I am just trying to learn\\thanks
  8. sorry but I forgot to mention that I am running version 4.7 which I just downloaded as the latest o stable release I believe
  9. Hello, I recently setup a small unraid box with just 3 disks laying around (different sizes), all worked well,I then replaced 2 of the small disks with 2 2tb disks, and they both have a green dot next to them and say unformatted, when I click to format it says format started but after refreshing saying unformatted again. any ideas? I appologize but I am brand new to UnRaid.... Thanks
  10. from what I read I was thinking of unmenu femur possibly simple features definately email notification preclear disk maybe Mover thanks
  11. Thanks! very helpful.... I just looked at the addons and there are some interesting ones. I think I would like to be prepared in case I do want to use some of these addons. For the 15 drive budget box, what upgraded cpu/motherboard would you recommend and which would fit the box (and handle the mentioned expansion cards)? It also makes sense now that as long as I have the data backed up I have 2 options to get the data back. 1. if 1 drive fails I can replace it and rebuild it. in worst case if > 1 drives fail and can replace them and re copy the data back from the backup box. I already built a simple small Unraid box with just 3 old drives I had laying around and it went smooth. I am looking now to jump in ! thanks for all your help
  12. one other question, if I were to build 2 machines, one primary and one holding a duplicate backup of each drive (ie. drive 1 backed up to drive 1 on backup box, drive 2 backed up to drive 2 on backup box), if drive 2 failed on the primary, can I just pull out the drive 2 from the backup box and plug it i and have it just run again as it is a duplicate drive? thanks again
  13. looking at these designs, I see most CPU's are single core. I am curious, does the CPU make much difference in a storage device like this where no other software will really be running? I can see faster drives being helpful but how important is upgrading a cpu? I have a photo website where customers can view and buy photos online. so each week we copy new photos taken to storage device and let users browse them. So this device is really just a large storage device and aside from fast access to the photos, I am not sure if there is a benefit to upgrading cpu? thanks
  14. Thanks for your response. The 3.0 would be nice but not neccessary, we often copy files froman external hard drive and now that their are usb 3.0 external hard drives I was just curious. As far as the 7200 rpm drives, I am looking at possibly the 20 or 22 drive beast, or maybe the 15 drive budget box. what upgrade would I need? also the specs do not mention ethernet, would they include a gigabit ethernet? if I wanted a second backup ethernet would I just by an additional to plug into an open slot? thanks again. I am totally new to this but very excited to get going.
  15. Also, does any of these motherboard have usb 3.0? we transfer alot of data weekly and the additional speed would be very helpful thank you
