  1. Is the BIOS boot order correct. When selecting the usb most BIOS also will show it twice: legacy and EFI. choose legacy 2 As far as I know it's selected correctly. I have "JetFlash" selected and everything else set to disabled. I've booted from USB many times with this motherboard and have never done anything differently before.
  2. Right, just had time to give the new drive a go. Formatted the drive as FAT, MBR and name UNRAID. I copied everything from my trial drive over to it and ran the make bootable mac file. Chose No to UEFI support and tried it. I get Non-system disk, please reboot and insert disk. Really unsure what to do now. I didn't have any such issues when going to set up the trial. I have also replaced the CMOS onboard mobo battery too just incase.
  3. Disk Utility only gives me the option for FAT or ExFAT. Which should I use?
  4. Purchased. Arriving tommorrow! Will update later. Also picked up a new CR2032 battery to replace the CMOS mobo battery just to be on the safeside as this board hasn;t been in use for many years.
  5. That is a very good option and one I do a lot with work if I can't get something running right. This one look ok?: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-JetFlash-Drive-Frustration-Free-Packaging/dp/B003VNKNDM/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1520768856&sr=1-2&refinements=p_n_size_browse-bin%3A310779031%2Cp_36%3A428444031&th=1
  6. Tried that and still no luck. 100% sure there is only one. I'm getting so disheartened with all this. AAARGH!!!!!! Sorry, need to destress! :-) . It'll get sorted eventually I guess. Appreciate the help so far though!
  7. Thanks for the links. I'll take a read through them. I'm not having a problem choosing the usb to boot from. It just says that the disk is not bootable and to insert a bootable floppy. If I replace the drive with the generic usb I have the trial and my setup on, it all boots and runs fine. It's just having issues with any other usb's I try. I've tried two others. Weird eh? EDIT: Just tried setting the USB drive option in the BIOS to Forced FDD and that on boot just gives me a flashing cursor prompt underscore. It literally does nothing after that. Really stuck and unsure what to do now.
  8. It's an Asus P5W DH Deluxe board, If it's a new thing then i guess i don't need it. Anyway i've tried without it and still cant get the system to boot from the drive?
  9. UPDATE: Right, finally back being able to look at this. Still no luck at all. I tried erasing the drive and using the Unraid USB Creator tool to make a brand new install of Unraid, it fails to boot that one too. It fails on another USB drive but my trial drive it does boot fine but that's a cheapo generic drive that i'd rather not tie a license to. This is the reason I want to switch drives. Anymore ideas? By the way, when executing the make bootable mac script, it asks me if I want to enable UEFI mode or not. I have tried both yes and no (neither works) . Which do I actually need? Thanks, Neil
  10. Thanks for the suggestions. The drive is 8Gb Sandisk. I did format it as FAT32 and it's a USB 2 drive. Not sure about the type of port it's connected to but i'll check. Yes, I named it UNRAID. I'll take another look at it sometime. I'm having my house rewired over the next week so the server is hidden away and disconnected right now. Once the house is back to normal i'll be able to check and post an update for you. Thanks so far though. Neil
  11. Hi all, As my extended trial has just expired, I thought it was about time I bought myself a real license. Before I did, I decided to switch to a better quality USB drive before getting it. I plugged both drives into my Mac, copied the contents of the old to the new, ran the make bootable mac file and tried to use it to boot from. Each time I get: "this is not a bootable disk please insert a bootable floppy and try again". The drive is correctly set as the boot drive but I get that error every single time. If I put the old drive in then Unraid boots as normal. Any ideas as to what is going wrong here? Thanks, Neil
  12. Any ideas? I'd really love to get this set up and running.
  13. Hey, I'm wanting to backup my Share of 1.09Tb of Photos to the cloud. I have come across Duplicati that looks like it could do this but I am confused with the install. When installing, the form is asking me to enter locations for each of the following. Where do I point them to and what is each one for? - /tmp- /backup- /source Thanks,Neil

  15. Hey, Thanks for the reply. I have run the Mover several times so surely there can't be anything on the Cache drive? Yes I do have a parity drive.
  16. Why do all my User Shares show an orange triangle next to them which when hovered shows "Some or all files unprotected". I have invoked the Mover and it still says it. Any thoughts? Neil
  17. Hey, I am trying to delete a share but can't seem an official way to do so. From looking online it sounds like I need to remove the name from the name field and save that but it always says that the name is blank. I have also checked to see if the share is empty, Unraid says it is not. From checking the share via Finder it is empty but Unraid shows there is a directory called "AppleDB" in there. That does not show up in Finder (with or without hidden files showing) and I have tried deleting the directory using Krusader and that also fails. How can I delete this share? Thanks, Neil
  18. I get 26-29 from BT on average. I do have a spare router. I'll give this a try and get back to you. Really really appreciate all the help! Give me a couple of days. Kind regards, Neil
  19. Yes, I realised that a few days ago. Very useful!
  20. Ok so, here are the two methods I have tried: MacBook --> 5Ghz Wi-Fi --> Router (BT Home Hub 5) --> Cat 6 --> Unraid = Slow transfer speeds MacBook --> Cat 5e --> Router (BT Home Hub 5) --> Cat 6 --> Unraid = Much better transfer speeds
  21. Hey, Right, finally found a spare 10 minutes to test this. Over Ethernet, the speed is between 90 - 120 MB/s which is fantastic. So Wi-Fi was the issue. What I am confused about is, why is the connection over Wi-Fi so slow when transferring stuff internally compared to just accessing the net where things are super fast even over Wi-Fi? Thankyou, Neil
  22. Hey, Just so you know, i'm not ignoring you, I have just ordered a USB-C to Ethernet adaptor and hope to test over the next few days and will get back to you (most likely Saturday). Appreciate your help! Neil
  23. Whilst testing here everything is idle and I am connected on the 5Ghz network.
  24. Ah, sorry, yes, BT = British Telecom in this case. So connection wise, currently I have: MacBook --> Wi-Fi 5Ghz --> BT Home Hub --> Cat 6 --> Unraid I realise that WiFi is not the best in this circumstance but I would expect speeds to be slightly better using it than they are. Eventually everything will be cat 6 connected but for now Wi-Fi will have to do.
