  1. I am now. I shut down the daemon and started it back up and after the scan everything came up correctly. Thank you for the responses, looks like it was just a glitch in the matrix. Make sure you tell the experts your UPS model number, its impotant
  2. My old UPS was not large enough for my server (and it was old as dirt) so I replaced it. The ups daemon is still coming up with the voltage from the old UPS. I dont really see a way to update it or rescan. I went though the manual but.... im not really sure what I need to do. Thanks everyone.
  3. Awesome, I found a refurb Avago LSI SAS 9211-8i that I am going to grab. Thank you so much for the advice. Now are there any considerations regarding swapping this controller out? Am I going to need to do anything special? I poked through the docs and this does not seem covered, or I am blind.
  4. This was another card I was looking at https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101792
  5. So first is the setup. I think the controller I am using in my system is borked. I have posted a couple different topics, and the results of them a telling me the controller is dropping disks when the load gets high. Second the question. Can I just pull the old controller, plug in a new one and the hard drives and keep all my precious data? Third, advice, I am looking to be cost conscious on my replacement controller. I would like to get an 8 port sata three controller. I am looking at https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABMK5VN0549 Its in my price range, but im wondering if it will shimmy my data about in a decent way? I will only have spinning disks attached to it. There are cheaper options (like any of the SYBA thingys) but im just not sure, any sage advice is much appreciated. Also THANK YOU!!!! This forum has been great help as I try to get my feet under me with this new system .
  6. Sorry to be back here so soon, Need a little more help. I added a disk to the my array, the system cleared the disk but the option to format it never arrived. It is part of the array, but it does not have a file system and has a little "new device" blue dot next to it. The only thing I have available where the format option would be is a parity check. cdaystorage-diagnostics-20180202-2341.zip
  7. Thank you for all your help. I am rebuilding now. I think I will just add one disk at a time tomorrow and see how it goes.

  9. So I am not really sure what is happening here. The connections all seem fine. The drive spins up in a different system. I also appear to be able to run a smart short self test from unraid and it says that it completes successfully. When I hover over the X in the array device listing it says "device disabled, contents emulated". I am not sure how this has become disabled or how to reverse it.
  10. So when I tried to do the diags nothing happened, I ended up having to do a hard reboot. I have been running for 30 days with no issues like this. Today I bought a license (YAY!) and switched to a different usb key (copied the config folder per the instructions) cdaystorage-diagnostics-20180201-2243.zip
  11. I added 3 four Tb disks to the system. Added them to the array and started the clearing op. The system started going quite fast (100ish mb/sec) but has now slowed down to 2.3 MB/sec. Its saying its going to be done in 17 days...... other operations have not had this level of slowness. I also dont appear to be able to cancel the operation. Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.
  12. Got the system and messed around, its exactly as nuhll described. I was just looking for some pre build advise on how it was done. Thanks everyone for the answers!
  13. Ok, Sorry, tough thing to explain. I will want to migrate all of my data off a disk in unraid in order to swap it with a larger one. I am just checking to see if this is easy or convoluted.
  14. I am about to spin up an unraid system but had a quick question. A search of the forum did not really show an answer, sorry if it is a duplicate. I want to transition from and old system to unraid. I dont want to buy a bunch of disks so I kind of need to cobble something together to move to, and then move the big disk from the old system into unraid. My question is, how easy is clearing a disk that currently has data on it off? My plan would be to transition the data off the smaller disk and then swap in a bigger disk. Thanks
