  1. I'm sure this is just something dumb that I am missing, a button not clicked somewhere or something. But I have looked through it for a bit and can't seem to figure it out. Radarr is downloading to "incomplete" folder via deluge When DL is finished, it moves it to "complete" folder via deluge setting Radarr is then renaming to the correct format, and placing in my media->movies folder (or, I guess mover is actually moving them?) The problem lies in the fact that it doesn't seem to just be renaming and moving the file, it seems to be copying and renaming, leaving the original file in the "complete" folder. Like I said, I am sure I just missed a setting somewhere to delete this, or possibly I am messing it up by removing the torrent from deluge when the completed ones start to pile up. Or, maybe it is copying the file and renaming due to the fact that the original is seeding at that point? Just a couple ideas, none of which I am certain how to solve. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Don't want to mess with the settings and mess something else up.
  2. Ok, so I have read over all the info I can find. I feel like I have a fairly good grasp on how parity works in unraid. I have also seen that it is recommended by most to do monthly parity checks to help diagnose a bad disk. But no where have I seen how/when parity is actually created after data is added to the array. What I mean is, I added cache and data disks and loaded my array with all the data I had to start with. Then I added a parity disk, and it calculated parity based on what was on the drives at that time. Now, after this is done, I add sonarr and radarr and download media. We'll say that I add 3 files a day to my cache, then then gets moved to the array by mover. Doesn't this completely change what the parity calculation should be for these sectors? And if I have it setup to do monthly parity checks, does that mean everything I added between the last check and the next one is essentially not protected? That sounds completely wrong to me. If that was how unraid worked, I don't think anyone would use it. So, the only thing I can imagine is that it is doing checks and changing the parity disk at the same time as it is writing to the array to keep them all in sync? I have not seen this documented in my reading, but I don't see any other way for it to work. If this is the case, then wouldn't monthly parity checks really be more of a "double check", not really essential but not a bad idea? I get that they can protect you from a disk with a sector that is not being used silently going bad and trashing the disk entirely. But, aside from this unlikely (and rare I imagine) scenario, parity checks are just kind of a safety net? Also, IF this is how parity works (writing to array and parity at the same time), then how does it work with dual parity since the dual parity calculation is completely different? The one must have to wait until the first parity and data disk are in sync, then do a separate check on its own? Sorry if these are simple, dumb questions. I am trying educate myself as much as possible on this, since I have dove in head first. I am one of those people that, for me, it is not good enough that something works. I have to know why it works too.
  3. I know that he only had 2 added in the picture. What I was saying was that it seems like there is only 2 public sites listed on the jackett docker, or only 2 that do not require username and password info. I could be wrong, but I think all the others listed are either semi-private or private. But I am not 100% sure about that. As for adding multiple index feeds from jackett with one link in sonarr/radar, and changing the url, what format would that look like then? I am assuming https://serverIp:port/all? is that it?
  4. Speaking of which, is there something I can read to explain this further? What I mean is, everything I have ever seen about port forwarding states that you have to set it up through your router and designate a port to be open. But according to the info I have read on here, with the delugevpn docker, as long as you have STRICT_PORT_FORWARDING and subscribe to PIA, and pick one of the locations that allow port forwarding, you are good to go. I would really like to read about how that is possible. TBH, I don't fully understand port forwarding to begin with and I am in no way an advanced (or even competent) user. But it seems like this is side stepping a necessary process somehow. Edit: This is strictly for informational/educational purposes. Don't mean to imply that the software is faulty in anyway. I just like to understand how things work.
  5. I am not really sure what the deal is, but I am pretty sure it has to do with the sonarr/radarr side of things. I can test the connection to TPB in jackett, and it works fine. But copying and pasting the URL provided does not work. Also, is there an updated version of jackett available? I see the above post has ETTV. The only public ones on the docker that I have is Rarbg and TPB. I would also like to see EZTV, and thought these were already included?
  6. I couldn't get this to work either. I also had issues adding some of the indexers in general. However, I think the anime category would have to be a numeric value also, like the categories above.
  7. Wow, everyone on this site is leagues ahead of me when it comes to this stuff. I will play around with it a bit when I get home tonight, and I am grateful for the help. But I feel like a 10 year old sitting in a college lecture.....
  8. ok, super dumb question. How to I point my server at that file? I have only had it up and running a couple days, and everything I have done has been from watching spaceinvader ones videos. So the only things going to deluge are from sonarr and radarr. Sorry, complete newb with all of this. I haven't even figured out how to access the server from outside my house yet.
  9. Ok, just rewatched the video on youtube. I followed this video completely, and it looks like STRICT_PORT_FORWARD defaults to yes anyway. So this means that I already have the port forwarded? If so, there has to be another reason why my dl speed is so terrible. I am guessing now that it has to do with the indexer I have added. I would like to add more, but could not figure out how to do that last night. All of them except one required me to input info I did not have. Does that mean that I need to go to those sites and sign up for an account to get this info?
  10. I am at work now, but will look into this when I get home tonight. So, just to be clear, there is a file I need to open and edit right? This isn't changed through the preferences menu inside of deluge vpn?
  11. I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this or not. I am looking for help trying to figure out how to do port forwarding with deluge vpn. I just installed it last night, and set it up exactly how it is shown in the updated spaceinvader one youtube video, complete with PIA vpn set to Netherlands because they apparently allow for port forwarding. The trouble is, nowhere in the video does it say how to set up port forwarding. I have the fastest internet available around me which is advertised as 60 mb/s, and speed test shows that I get 60-65. Yet the highest I have seen a single torrent dl go is approx. 500 kb/s. I have been googling, trying to figure out how to do this, but can't seem to find anything online about it. The only things I have found are suggestions not to use the Netherlands as my access point, stating it is slower than others. There are also others saying that port forwarding doesn't do anything with pia and deluge vpn? And still others touting the plugin itconfig as some magic cure to all speed issues. I am trying to avoid changing anything from the settings that I saw in the video until I have ruled out the port forwarding that was mentioned as a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Edit: I think I have found info about how to port forward my asus RT-AC68U router, and it looks simple enough. I will need to plug in my IP, which I have set to static. But I will also need to plug in a port number. Not 100% certain which one to plug in, or if I do multiple ones? I used 8118 to route sonarr and radarr though my vpn like instructed in spaceinvader one's videos. Is that what I use?
  12. Thanks for the write up, this is helpful information. But like I said, I am a complete newb to all this. I am not even sure how to access ipmi. Do I just download the ipmitool, and plug my laptops ethernet into the the mobos dedicated ipmi port?
  13. Ok, so to start off, I have googled this extensively. I have even found multiple examples of this same issue occuring, along with people who have stated that they have fixed it. The trouble is, all of them seem to be way above my head. I have no idea how to use IMPI, or if there is something else I need to do to fix this issue. Here is the problem.... I have the supermicro x11ssm-f, a cool master hyper 212 evo cooler, and 3x arctic f-14 pwm fans. (https://www.arctic.ac/us_en/f14-pwm.html). I am certain I have all the fans hooked up to the correct headers (cpu fan on fana, others on numbers headers). When I first start my server, the fans run at a constant speed. However, after everything loads the fans begin pulsing from slow to fast. Approximately 3 seconds fast, then 3 seconds slow, over and over again. CPU temp seems to have no effect on this, it just goes on forever. I have read about people using some ipmi tool??? and changing thresholds and making this stop. like I said, the trouble is, I have no idea what this means or how to do it. I am hoping someone could hold my hand a little and lead me through this. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Adam
  14. That makes perfect sense. And if it was only ever going to be 6TB, it would be a no brainer. However, the thought of keeping backups of an entire "large" collection, say 60TB, seems like it could be a huge pain. Especially if that collection changes frequently. I do see your point though. IT would be an awfully painful experience either way, but probably more so to have to reacquire it all.
  15. Thanks! Surprisingly, I have not run into a single issue as of yet. Everything has been plug and play, and I am figuring things out as I go. But so far, everything has worked how I have intended it to, and haven't plugged anything in the wrong spot..... yet I will read about the Turbo Write, hopefully that cuts down a ton of time. I was thinking about keeping 1 connected, but unassigned, so it could be used as a warm spare and disconnecting the others. Then I could use my warm spare to either replace a failed drive (unlikely at this stage) or add to the array when needed and slap in another to replace the warm spare. I am debating pulling them out entirely and re-boxing them so they are not even subjected to the heat in the tower. But, honestly, I kind of went for overkill on this thing and it doesn't get that warm. I think if I pulled them out, it would stay a few degrees cooler though, since there would be larger gaps between the drives. As for the hardware, I have a Define R5. No hot swaps. But I did spend a few extra bucks and pick up all locking SATA cables. So, hopefully, that wont be an issue. As of right now, I will keep backups of what I have on externals. But as the collection grows, I will probably not backup the media as it should be fairly easy (albeit time consuming) to replace. I will however continue to backup the pictures/documents that I can not replace. Honestly, this whole build has been fun so far so I have been kicking around the idea of building a server to "give to my mom". That way she can store whatever she wants, and I would have an offsite backup for all my most important things should something happen in the house.
  16. Ok, so I just completed my first ever build (of any computer). I have run all 8 drives through preclear, and decided to run memtest while I am at work today, just to get a better feel for longevity of the system. I will be using this sever mostly as a plex server, but also for document/picture back up. Further down the road I plan to research VM and play with that as well, and maybe some home automation. So, my question is this. Generally speaking, is it better to add all the storage capacity all at once or wait until more space is needed to assign the drives? Like I had said, I have 8 drives. I will run single parity for the time being. My media is currently taking up about 8tb of data on externals. The drives I have purchased are all 6tb. So, at minimum, I will need to add 1 parity, and 2 data drives. Which will leave 5 more drives left over. Should I leave these 5 unassigned (as warm spares I guess they would be considered) until such time as I need to expand my storage capacity, or should I assign them all (except maybe one as a spare) right off the bat. Also, super dumb question, but when transferring files over from my externals through crusader, do I add them directly to the array or go through the cache and let mover handle adding them to the array while I am sleeping? I do have 2 500gb SSD, which I plan to use as cache (raid1). I realize this would limit me to less than 500gb at a time, and ultimately increased the amount of time it takes to transfer to the array. Just wondering if there is some other added benefit that I should consider, or if it is just quicker, easier, and smarter to toss them directly on the array. (see.... super dumb question, which I am 99% certain I already know the answer to!)
  17. I currently have 8x Toshiba x300 6tb drives in my server. These are 7200 rpm, 128mb cache drives. I also have room to expand and add 3 more drives should I choose to. I keep seeing deals for the 8tb easy store WD external, that most say has the possibility of 256mb cache red drives in them. At worst I would end up with 128mb white. But all of these are 5400 rpm. My question is, if I decided to get a few of these, even if I ended up with the best case scenario and got the high end reds, would the 5400 rpm be a bottleneck for my system. Obviously I would be using them as my parity drives (dual) and one data drive, until swapping out later when the Toshibas start to die.
  18. I am having a hard time seeing a point to using RAM for transcoding. Just spent a little time reading up on it, and it seems like a neat concept but not really a necessary thing. I can't imagine it will save that much life on the SSD in the long run. And I am sure I will want to upgrade long before that. You mentioned dedicating RAM to VM's. If you were running a basic windows VM, not anything intensive. Mostly just word processing, maybe some smaller stuff, would you dedicate the same amount of memory as physical computer? What I mean is, if there is no gaming, would it need 12GB RAM? Since most cheap budget laptops survive with 4-8GB, would that also be sufficient for a very basic VM? Also, do you have to dedicate cores/threads to a VM as well? I have seen that it can help, but is it necessary?
  19. Awesome. Thanks for the link! I'm going to read the whole thing now. Thank you both for all the help you give to me and everyone else! I am sure I will be back soon to further my education.
  20. So here is a quick run down of the parts I have on hand for my build. I was originally planning and buying parts for a FreeNas build, but Unraid seems to fit my needs better. I am currently planning to use this server primarily as a media/plex server. There is a possibility of 4 simultaneous transcodes (although this will be exceedingly rare). It is more likely that this will be used most of the time in house with hard line, and maybe 1-2 outside streams at other times. And I am looking at converting all my media over to MKV to avoid tanscoding issues. I will be running docker (once I read up on it and understand it a little better) for all the necessary media gathering/sorting/playing programs. I may dabble in VM later on, but I don't game or do any video editing or anything like that. At most, I was thinking it would be kind of cool to setup VM so the kids could have access to "windows" machines on their chromebooks, if this is even a possibility. Also, I have been getting into home automation, so this might be something I migrate to the server if I get more involved/advanced with it. Currently, I don't even have a hub though. Just running Lutron caseta and Philips Hue bridges with alexa. But this could conceivably be expanded later on. Processor: Intel Xeon Processor E3-1230 v5 MOBO: Supermicro Micro ATX X11SSM-F-O RAM: SAMSUNG M391A2K43BB1-CPB DDR4-2133 16GB ECC (64GB total) PSU: Seasonic SS-660XP2 ATX 12V / EPS 12V, 660W, 80 PLUS PLATINUM HDD: Toshiba X300 6TB (8 of these) SSD: Samsung Evo 850 500GB (2 of these) Define R5 Case The more I look in to it, the more it seems to me I have an excessive amount of RAM. So I am thinking I might just use 1-2 sticks (16-32GB, though leaning towards 32GB). I was thinking about possibly using the other 2 sticks in separate builds, to have off-site back up servers at my mother and sisters house to back up my actual important data (photos, documents). They could also use these as mini-media servers in their homes. So my question is, would it be better to use just 16-32GB of ram? Would the full 64GB be a waste for me? Also, dumb question, my MOBO has 4 RAM slots. 2 black, 2 blue. I know that this is "dual channel", but I am not 100% clear on what this entails. If I do use only 2 sticks instead of all 4, should I populate 2 of the same color or one of each color to maximize their effectiveness? Thanks for all the help!
  21. So I would need to put it in the x16 slot, not the x8 slot?
  22. Sorry for the dumb question, but this is my first build and I am trying to do it right. My MOBO has a total of 8 Sata ports, and I added the LSI 9207-8i controller. So with the Sas to Sata breakout cables, I can add 8 more. Is there a preference to filling one up before the other? Splitting the drives equally? I will have a total of 13 drives (11 HDD, 2 SSD). Is it recommended to put the SSD to the MOBO instead of the controller? Or is it as straight forward as filling up the MOBO and then adding the others to the controller? Also, is there a limit to the size of the drive connected to the controller? I can't find it in the documentation anywhere. My drives are all 6tb, excepts the SSD which are 500gb. Thanks
  23. Do you happen to have a link to a beginners guide to using IPMI. I have no idea how to do this, and everything I have found using google is way beyond me.
