Seatools or HD Sentinel on Unraid
I'm in the process of tryting to RMA my parity drive, and the company who supplied have asked for: Photo of the SMART test result (You may run a Seatools test on the drive or use the free trial of HD Sentinel to check its health.) Is it possible to run either of these things in Unraid? When i try and run either the of the self tests within unraid, i get an unknown error (Diagnostics attached). I am unaware it's not a recommended controller, i do intend to change as part of a hardware upgrade shortly. sap1ent_diagnostics-20260311-2321.zip Sap1ent-smart-20260311-2319.zip

Pressure limit: failing now
Damn, that's frustrating, but thanks both. Going to be fun shipping this back to the states from the UK!

Pressure limit: failing now
Hi there, Could anyone help with the following error from my parity drive? It's a factory refurbished drive that's barely been used. 20TB. I've included the diagnostics zip. Also, whenever I try and run the SMART test it fails. Thanks in advance! (If you could refrain from telling me I need to buy a new one, it would be appreciated .😉 ) sap1ent-diagnostics-20260304-0952.zip

Spec my rebuild?
I am going to hold my hands up here, I am so far out of the game in terms of hardware builds, i'm not convinced i could spec a working machine up from scratch anymore. The learning curve feels enormous, especially for an unraid server build and the quirks that come along with it. There are some enormously helpful people in this community, so if possible, i'd like to drop a few thoughts in here, and work them into a full new build with their help. My existing position is that I've got a server running unraid, that I think is coming up to 10 years old now, running very old hardware. but obviously, in that time unraid has been a delight. My use case is relatively straightforward - at the moment the server is mostly a media server that runs Plex and a few other related dockers (i.e. sabnzb & deluge). It's mostly used in the house, but I have a couple of external users on Plex. I am interested in a few other dockers, when I upgrade, immich, homeassistant and possibly some home secuirity stuff, but nothing that requires too much heavy lifting, but i would like to build it and forget to a degree, i don't want to keep upgrading. I've got around 9 drives at present, ranging from 20tb, to 4tb. (excluding cache) I would like the build to be rackmount as i have a cab in my garage, but it's not a deep one. I do have a case which i'd like to use, it's not identical to this, but more or less the same: https://www.theserver.group/products/logic-case-lc-4480-8b-wh-4u-rackmount-storage-chassis-8x-3-5-sata-hot-swap-480mm-short-depth My initial thoughts are i'd need an additional rackmount disk case (I don't know the correct term for these devices!) to allow for my current setup but also compensate for expansion in the future. Budget wise, realistically it would be around £1k - but obviously this doesn't include a case or HDDs. If it's really necessary, i could go about 50% more i.e. £1500, but I don't want to spend excessively unnecesarily.

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
Understood, thank you so much for your help @JorgeB - hugely appreciated.

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
Thanks @JorgeB - this seems to be working now. I've got to wait a day and a bit to know for sure, but it's started! FYI, i think this process is where disk 7 fell over last time, so that might have been why it was in such a strange state. I assume, immediately after this rebuild (and confirmation that everything is working), i should then replace disk 7? (I have another drive sat ready and waiting to go).

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
Thanks again @JorgeB Just about to do so, but just wanted to double check Preserve current assignments and 'retain current configuration' mean the same thing? Appreciate they are very close and wording may have changed in a later build, but i'm extremely risk averse at this stage!

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
Yes that's correct @JorgeB - one point of note though, disk 3 was unassigned from the array before disk 7 failed (it was being emulated, ready to add the new 14TB drive). Thank you for all your help.

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
thanks very much for the responses @trurl Re: the raid controller - i'm a bit of a hardware noob, this server has been kicking around a while, so I used what I had to hand back in the day and have gradually increased the storage, funnily enough, once I'd upgraded the storage (now i'm the age where I have a litle cash kicking around) I was going to upgrade all of the hardware, i was just trying to do it in a logical way, which has backfired a little done! done & done running the extended test now

Lost 2 drives - array still online, help :(
Hello, Seeking some help, trying not to panic. I recently decided to upgrade a lot of my disks, I had 8 (smallish) data disks and a parity. I upgraded the parity to a 20TB drive and rebuilt, all went well. I then proceeded to try and swap a data disk, and since unassigning the disk (3), i've lost another disk (7), I think the disk itself has mechnically stopped working. Which leaves me in this situation, 2 failed disks, but the array is up & running (image), files accessible etc, however, if I stop it, I can't seem to replace the broken disks. I've also attached the diagnostics file. Thanks (hugely) in advance, for any guidance whatsoever. n.b. i still have the 2tb disk i unassigned but have the 14tb disk plugged into the system. sap1ent-diagnostics-20260225-1854.zip

[Support] binhex - Medusa
Thank you and thank you very much for the reply. I do have Sonarr, i'm just being a bit lazy about making the move! Thanks again for all your efforts

[Support] binhex - Medusa
@binhex thank you for all your work on the unraid containers. I use many of them! Would it be possible to update to use the latest version of Medusa? I notice it hasn't been updated in sometime on here, but the latest pymedusa update was November. I have made a small donation to you, partially to thank you for everything, and partially in a blatant attempt at bribery Thank you again, regardless of the update or not!

[Support] Linuxserver.io - Plex Media Server
Hi everyone - does anyone happen to have an idiots guide to moving the metadata and media folders off of the cache in unraid? I have a small cache disk and it's pretty much being eaten by those folders. I don't want to move the entire appdata off, but I figure if I can just move those 2 i'll save a ton of space (and they can always be replaced). Any help much appreciated. Thanks!

XAMPP/MAMP/Internal Facing Web Server - Unraid
hi all, I have a new machine at home and was installing Xampp last night when it occurred to me it would better to run a web server from unraid so I could access from my other devices in the house, rather than just on my desktop. Is there a neat plugin that already does this, or indeed a way of configuing a VM? I've no use case to actually make this web facing, just internal to my own network as kinda like a staging environment. Might be more hassle than it's worth, but figured it was worth a try. Any thoughts? Thanks

USB Drive as 2nd Parity
Thanks for the info - had never considered that. Will give them a run and a full test in another machine before I dump them

USB Drive as 2nd Parity
Thank you, almost as soon as i'd posted I found a similar thread and realised it was probably unwise. Re: the drive failures, agreed, but I changed both cables etc, but these were the same batch and were 'clicking' for want of a better word, so think they'd had it, they were pretty old.

USB Drive as 2nd Parity
Hi all, I couldn't find any recent threads on this, but wondered if anyone had any experience of running a USB drive as parity? The situation I have is that I have 10 disks currently in the machine using all of the available sata ports, but i recently had two drives fail within a week, meaning I lost a fair bit of data. I'd like to add a second parity to avoid this situation again, but the only option I have is to add this via a USB to Sata converter. It would be USB 3, so relatively quick, but any forseeable problems? Many thanks for any responses.

[Support] binhex - DelugeVPN
Thanks Eki (great username btw) I was having some trouble even getting debug working, the 'true' parameter was causing issues. In the end I removed the container totally and added it back, which seemed to fix everything. So all good now. Thanks again for your help.

[Support] binhex - DelugeVPN
Hi all, All of a sudden i'm getting this error in deluge, I think it's related to the PIA VPN I'm using but can't be sure. I don't believe i've done anything recently to cause this, but I may have. It's just looping round and round.
