  1. Any models? As I see only ultra320SCSI cards on ebay. And I need sata JBOD mode.
  2. Hello, I have ASUS NCT-D with win7 x64bit OS. I'm looking for PCI-X RAID card to be used in JBOD mode as the mobo had 2 SATA ports only. I tried the ADAPTEC SCSI CARD AAR-2420SA but get post error. I tried disabling USB, LAN, com ports, printer ports, integrated sound, IRQ for VGA in the bios. This did not work. Are there other cards I can try to get for Win7 x64?
  3. I just tool apart my old Sandisk Cruzer Blade 4gb drive. The whole thing is plastic. But no heat even after full benchmark with HD speed utility. The drive has large memory chip that does get lukewarm after the test. My cat is warmer than this drive. So why it's not on recommended list? image upload without registration
  4. Hello, is this page there is recommended flash drives http://lime-technology.com/hardware-recommendations/#usbflash One of drives is listed as the - SanDisk Cruzer Fit - Sony Micro Vault Tiny They both heat or should I say overheat when not in use ! http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/All-SanDisk-USB-Flash-Drives/Ultra-Fit-USB-3-0-Excessive-Heat/td-p/336404 While thread above is about Ultra Fit (the USB3.0 version) I have bought the USB 2.0 Fit 8GB drive and yes it's hot even not in use. Why do these come as recommended drives? I do want small drive but this is ridiculous.
  5. Nice MB but I need ECC RAM and the only XEON motherboards support that on Intel platform. Also server motherboards a better quality control, better quality. Long term reliability is better.
  6. I'm talking about X9SCL+-F not some cheap mobo here. The limiting factor will be as always LAN card speed. I doubt even after 5 years we will use fiber at our homes because of the fiber optic cable must be welded together using super expensive equipment thing. I havent' had CPU or RAM fail, but have had several mobos fail, so given the fact that I will not need to upgrade my CPU or RAM, and the fact that we will run 4TB hard drives as minimum on unraid in a year I doubt that I need to upgrade my box for 10years. Yes thats 10 years. After all it is a NAS box nothing more. I plan on 6HDD unraid + 2 4TB USB HDD's for offline storage in the same box. But I would hate the fact that I cant find this X9SCL+-F mobo 3 years from now the logic is I rather pay for spare mobo then to buy CPU,RAM,MOBO when one of them fails. That will be more expensive and will not lead to greater speed.
  7. Hi, Is it good idea to buy spare motherboard? In normal case scenario CPU, and RAM are least possible to fail, and motherboards well AFAIK, they fail the first after PSU.
  8. My friend who worked as admin for hosting company got very sick and still has chronic cough after working in server room with UPS and car battery. So it must the the outgassing fumes of car battery that got him sick. If anyone attempts this them YOU MUST USE SEALED CARD BATTERY, do not use regular battery that you can add water to.
  9. Building my server with Intel 1220L 20W tdp supermicro x9scl+-f 6 WD GREEN HDD 8GB RAM Define mini case The PSU mentioned SeaSonic X series SS-400FL 400W is very nice, but my power draw will be around 80+24x6=230W and since this PSU is not Platinum power efficiency will not be 90%, more like 88% at idle, very bad if you ask me. So perhaps there is better PSU? How could intel make MAJOR screw up by releasing nice Xeon low power CPU's but forgot about PSU? They should make PSU's too, as how can you make power efficient server without power efficient PSU? And I can say the same for AMD, nice move on E-350 18W but hey, you must use picoPSU and it's not very nice as you will be depending on you power brick to do what seasonic does with 2x more components. And I know that Titianium PSU is what I need, they are at 20% load as efficient as Gold is at 50%. But how come nobody makes them?
  10. So the polyswitch fuse is no good then? What could they use then? I was under impression that they simply added microchip to control the LEDS and possibly keep the HDD off if overvoltage, overcurrent is not corrected. Yes there is no substitute for a good power supply, I'm looking for PSU myself for 6HDD NAS. What do you think about http://www.seasonicusa.com/NEW_X-series_Fanless.htm I selected this 400W because it has high efficiency and is made by seasonic The other PSU's are 650W or more way too much for NAS, the power efficiency will be low loaded at 20% max.
  11. Hi, I found that there is a nice thing called surge protection for HDD's even if you PSU fails, the data can be protected. 99% of us have just single PSU so even if you are protected with UPS in epic failure of your PSU there is a possibility to loose all data even in RAID. You can read about the company here http://freemindtronic.com/fmt-fr/fullprotect/safer-evolution-2/?postTabs=1 But the problem is it is quite expensive for a fuse, http://www.pc-look.com/boutik/Prod_Freemindtronic_Electric-Protection-Device--SAFER-Evolution__58941_en.html And this the only shop I found. I think we should buy solid state fuse and just rig it ourselves with polyswitch. http://freemindtronic.com/fmt-fr/docs/datasheet_fr24082010_v1.1.pdf Here is DIY http://www.secomtel.com/UpFilesPDF/PDF/DataBook/03%20Section/03.C01_drive_(105).pdf For 5V line http://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity/microSMD075F-2/?qs=F6FIpiMdEVbc5a7rcQhJQg%3d%3d Hold Current: 0.75 Amp Trip Current: 1.5 Amps Maximum Voltage: 6 VoltsDC Package / Case: 1210 (3225 metric) 0,29 € For 12V line http://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity-Raychem/MINISMDC075F-2/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMu7EFbsM1w0neRfX3mrvYIvMyAk4mmU%252bDo%3d Hold Current: 0.75 Amp Trip Current: 1.5 Amps Maximum Voltage: 13.2 VoltsDC Package / Case: 1812 (4532 metric) 0,45 €
  12. Thanks for the explanation. I can't contact lian li, because it's a company without any contact information. If you search the net some people tried to contact them to no avail. They removed forum, and contact for from their page too.
  13. Hi, Just notices this nice case PC-Q25 (not available yet) it has hot plug feature. http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=584&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=67&g=f What happens when 4 or or mote TB drives are available, these hot plug IC's will not work anymore? As I noticed brand name manufacturers all specify that the cages are for 2TB drives. Also what about this hot plug IC then any good http://www.aerocooler.com/shop.cart?action=ITEM&prod_id=CASSCP5 I'm looking forward to get this PC-9F case instead and mod it for hot swap, because the PC-Q25 seems too small and unstable especially since one of the panels is attached without screws.
  14. Hi, II\m new here would liketo build my NAS server with UNRAID but I can't decide on the case yet. Lian Li PC-A04 http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=561&cl_index=1&sc_index=26&ss_index=69 or better Lian Li PC-9F http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=526&cl_index=1&sc_index=26&ss_index=69 because you don't have to remove whole tray to change a single disk. Problem: How do you see what the faulty drive is in a case there is no bad hdd leds like in special nas case? I could buy HDD rack like this (this would require different case any suggestions) http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1294&id=1658 or perhaps this i better http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1257&ID=2032 I'm looking forward for using 6HDD's max But these hdd enclosures do not have fault LED either so
