  1. The pool is set in raid mode. If I add 50tb of space, I'm only going to have 25tb available. That is the way mine is working. Up until now, when I added 10tb and it gave me the whole thing. I only had 5tb left, it should have been 10tb when I added the disk., but it's showing 15tb. Can't post anything at the moment.

  2. Hi,

    I have the following :

    Parity is 18tb

    Disk 1 16tb

    Disk 2 18tb

    Disk 3 10tb

    Disk 4 16tb

I was starting to get low on space, so I activated one of my old 10tb drives. It was sitting there doing nothing and it still worked. My disks are mirrored so obviously whatever I add I lose half.  It wiped the disk, and then I formatted it, and it added it to the pool. The problem is, it added the full 10tb, it should have only added 5tb. It's also not showing a file system for the disk I added. I'm assuming with the new changes to Unraid I must have done something wrong? Never had this problem before.

Another question, how many disks should you have before using a second parity disk? I was going to setup a second set of disks for backups, but I just have too much data. I'm just going to have to take my chances. I try not to let my disks get too old.

    Any help is appreciated.

  3. Hi,

My vpn download speeds have tank severely, thinking it could be related to Deludge VPN, won't let me past 10mbs. Tried different vpns to see if that was it, didn't matter. I thought I would try the bult-in vpn, so I setup a tunnel on Unraid just for dockers, when I imported the config file it killed my internet. Had to do a shutdown and delete the vpn files off the usb.  What did I do wrong? I thought you just gave the tunnel a name, import your file, and turn it on.

    Any help is appreciated.

I'm the same way and still on 6.9.2 which has been running without issues 🤞and I can't afford the downtime to troubleshoot unforeseen issues.

I think I need to build another UNRAID server just for pre-production upgrade testing....😒

    docker container ps -a --format "{{.State}}"|wc -l
    162
    docker container ps -a --format "{{.State}}"|grep running|wc -l
    41

I gave in and upgraded, it broke Plex LOL...This might have been in the release notes, that I didn't read. I guess I had to go to the app store and download a docker patch. which fixed the issue. This patch should have been incorporated into the update, or put a big note under the update button. Maybe it's just me. Other then that no issues.

I appreciate the new process, but I think you forgot about (or haven't gotten around to it) an item I suggested a while back (Limetech "liked" the post).  I'd still like to see this added to the update process.  Here's a copy of my post from July 3, 2023:

It is so easy to forget to manually make a backup of a flash drive prior to an OS UPDATE.  Granted, with the RESTORE button, one often does not need to use the manual FLASH BACKUP, but it is still a wise thing to do.  For example, I had issues with the most recent backup, and the RESTORE option did not work.  I ended up having to reformat the flash drive and used the FLASH BACKUP to get back up and running.  To assist us, can you either:

    1)    Add an (optional) flash-drive backup to the UPDATE OS process

    OR

    2)    At least add a prompt to the UPDATE OS process – something like:
“If you do not have a recent flash drive backup, we suggest you cancel this update and do a flash drive backup (click MAIN tab, the click FLASH, then click FLASH BACKUP and save the ZIP file to your PC).  Once complete, begin the UPDATE OS again.

         CANCEL update                                         CONTINUE update

(I need to do a FLASH backup)                    (I already have a recent FLASH backup)

BTW – in the FLASH BACKUP, it would be nice if you included the version in the filename.  For example:

    ur1-wopr-flash-backup-20230703-0052-ver6_12_2.zip

This is why I quit doing updates...Still on 6.12.4. Nothing is broken, no issues. If something breaks I will then look at upgrading. Don't change what isn't broke.🤣

  6. Hi,

I think I'm going to have to do it the way you have done it. I have a desktop I can convert, with some newer parts sitting here. The major expense will be the GPU for Plex, in case I ever have to switch over from the main server. I like the Nvidia cards. I have a p2200, works great, good for Fileflow compression, low power consumption.  I'm currently using old disks that I have replaced to back all my media files again. Thought it was better then them just sitting there. Not really old (5 or 6 years), they fit in the same server case. The only bad thing is they are not in a raid, so if one dies the whole backup dies.  I figure if it happens, it happens. Still have the main server drives. Thanks for your input, appreciate it.

@Badboy,  I think I see what you are trying to do.  But I think if such a solution exists, it will only be using a redundant server setup assembled by one of the big suppliers of server farms. (And it will not be cheap!)

But what type of failure are you trying to prevent?   If uptime on your Unraid server is the priority, you should have only the most basic NAS setups on the planet.  (No Dockers or VMs, very few plugins.)  And when I look at the Forum most of the failures in accessing the files on the array, they are related to the disk drives themselves.  And many of those are related to write failures to a single drive-- Not an actual drive failure!  If you simply connect the disk drives to a new controller without addressing that failure-to-write issue, you will have a system with the Parity drive(s) being out of sync with the physical drives as the second system will not be aware that the first system had disabled one of the physical drives!

I now know it won't work that way. The only other way is to build a completely separate server and have the data sync as it changes.  I think Space Invader had a video on this,  where the other server was setup to turn off after it had updated the data. If the main server ever goes down, you can use the other one.  I guess the short cut is out of the question. LOL...Thanks for the input.

Unclear what you mean, but if you are asking can you move all disks in a server including the boot USB license stick to a new motherboard and CPU, sure, that's a normal way most people upgrade. Since Unraid runs from RAM and "installs" itself fresh every boot, new hardware is often not a big deal, especially if you aren't passing any hardware through to VM's, and both setups use plain HBA's (no RAID enabled) to access the disks.

If you are asking if 2 systems can access the same disks simultaneously, the answer is a resounding NO.

That's what I was asking, thank you.

  9. That's a group of storage pools that I just plugged back in. I think I have solved it.  I changed the default appdata and disk image to my cache_pool. It looks like disks are going to stay spun down until needed.  The ones I plugged back in spun themselves down automatically.  👍

    thanks for the help!

  10. Plexer is a pool of backup drives that I have not plugged back in yet. I went and bought a 2tb ssd m.2 drive. I use this for cache. I will move all my appdata on it, and my downloads folder. Hopefully this will fix the spin down issue. When I went to do this I had no option for cache. I did stop the array.  This new version of Unraid is very strange now. Lol

    This is what I did.

    Stop the array.

Look at the very bottom of the page in the Disk Devices section for a disk 'slot' labeled Cache (the very last slot).

Select any disk not in the array into that slot.

    Thank you very much.

  11. I don't think there's much in there now. Going to have another look. I just moved Plex Meta Manager on to the m. 2 drive. The funny thing is that I didn't have this problem before. Same setup for a while. It does make sense. Can I totally delete that app folder? Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

  12. Hi everyone,

Thinking of downgrading, not having much luck with this version of Unraid. I can't get any of my drives to spin down. If I do it manually they stay spun down for about 30 seconds and come back on. I have tried it with all my dockers shutoff, I have uninstalled Dynamix Cache Directory, put Active Streams on, didn't show me anything. Default file system is XFS. Not running anything different then before the upgrade.  I know something could be pinging them, but I don't know what, unless it's a plugin.  They are the same I was using before.

  13. Hi,

Had Wireguard setup before for dockers only, something happened and I have to reset it. I'm using Mullvad vpn. When I generate the file at Mullvad, then use Wireguard's tunnel import, it kills Unraid's  internet connection, can't get back in unless I reboot the server. (Delete file off the USB} What I'm I missing? By default it is on tunneled access for dockers.

    Running 6.12.4.

    Thanks.

  14. Doesn't matter, have a new board coming.

Not trying to access remotely, I'm on my local network.

Haven't changed the DHCP. Router is telling me ip address has been set by server.

Power button, can only be used 2 ways, soft reset or long press.  (No way to disable) Yes, the button could be broke.  Also losing the screen and usb port the keyboard is on, when i go to the bios screen. I was on newer bios firmware before, can't remember if it did the same thing.  I wasn't blaming Unraid for every thing. Just asking some general questions.   I guess the new board will tell the story. Thanks for responding.

If you need it, it's mostly needed for VMs.

Just lost the internet to the server. Lasted almost 11 hours. I will pull the logs when I get it backup. At a loss here. Also, lose the power button to hard reset. Have to use switch on the back. Doesn't seem to make sense.

    Thanks.
