First off, thank you rix for developing this awesome app.

I'm posting this here to help other users can make use of this information. No action required - the problem was resolved by updating the ripper docker. If you feel that this post is too basic, please feel free to remove.

I installed ripper via Unraid Community Applications. It runs as a docker. This was months ago. Things were working great.

Not being very familiar with docker, I didn't know how to check the version, or even update the version. Or even know that the version was the cause of the problem I was having.  Honestly, I was expecting Unraid to have a little "update" option for each installed application within the Apps tab.

Problem: At some point, for some reason, ripper just wouldn't rip. It would spit out the dvd after a few seconds and drop a blank folder into the Finished folder. For every dvd.

    Steps:

I googled "unraid logs." first result said to go here: http://tower/log/syslog

When I do that, I saw:

    Nov 7 21:11:38 Tower kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#21 Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
    Nov 7 21:11:38 Tower kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#21 ASC=0x6f ASCQ=0x3
    Nov 7 21:11:38 Tower kernel: sr 2:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#21 CDB: opcode=0x28 28 00 00 00 08 00 00 00 02 00
    Nov 7 21:11:38 Tower kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 8192 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x0 phys_seg 1 prio class 0
Nov 7 21:11:38 Tower kernel: Buffer I/O error on dev sr0, logical block 1024, async page read

Started googling, and that lead me to believe that there was something wrong trying to read the disk.

    Changed the SATA cable

Tried a different SATA port on the motherboard

    Bought a new dvd drive

    Nothing worked.

Finally happened upon this thread within the unraid forums, and saw in a previous post that there was a ripper-specific log available: cat /mnt/user/appdata/ripper/Ripper.log

When I did that, I saw:

MSG:5021,131332,1,"This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com/ or enter a registration key to continue using the current version.","This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at %1 or enter a registration key to continue using the current version.","http://www.makemkv.com/"
    MSG:1005,0,1,"MakeMKV v1.16.5 linux(x64-release) started","%1 started","MakeMKV v1.16.5 linux(x64-release)"
MSG:5074,0,0,"Automatic checking for updates is enabled, you may disable it in preferences if you don't want MakeMKV to contact web server.","Automatic checking for updates is enabled, you may disable it in preferences if you don't want MakeMKV to contact web server."

At that point, I started exploring in the UI how the heck to update ripper, thinking that the image might be old. I figured, if I didn't know how to update ripper, then I probably never updated it since installing it.

Found it under Docker > Check for updates > then run the update using the link in the Version column.

    Success!

Basically, I didn't know where to look for the ripper-specific logs, and I didn't know how to update the app.

Thanks again! I'm a happy camper.

Highly recommend installing the CA APPLICATION AUTO UPDATE plug-in. You can customize when and which apps get automatically updated.

Is this still a current issue? I've been looking for backup solution for my server and was thinking that Duplicati was it, however after reading posts on this forum, I am having my doubts...

Yes, it is still in beta and it is quite slow. The benefits are its free, easy to setup, encrypts, and deduplicates your backups. I was able to do a restore with a 1 TB backup btw.

Thanks for the PSA. I had several error messages myself when there were DB issues, and ended up deleting everything and starting fresh, but never had to simulate a catastrophic failure. I only backup small datasets in comparison to your use case, but still this is worrysome, as the stable version of Duplicati is not even recommended anymore... so there are not lots of alternative in this Duplicati world. Do you know of alternatives of tools that are:
    1. free

    2. can deduplicate

    3. can store to cloud as encrypted, splitted files

    4. not beta, and that can actually restore without taking weeks

    5. not command line only, i.e. needs a free GUI (Duplicacy is close alternative, but with CLI version being only version that's free, this is not intuitive to use and especially restore via command line)

Nothing else exists that matches all those requirements. Borg does have a GUI, Vorta, but you still need another program to get your backups to the cloud, like rclone.

You can check out this thread for more details if you decide to go the borg + rclone way, but you will have to modify scripts to use.

I am going to build a home server, I want to use Unraid to build 3 virtual machines, one windows, one OSX, should I choose Intel CPU or AMD CPU?

Just get the Intel CPU and you will have less headaches. The AMD will require some extra configuration and do not have passthrough for the iGPU.

    You want to type in

    /bin/bash /boot/config/plugins/user.scripts/scripts/CA-Backup_Stop/script

Yours doesn't work because unRaid doesn't allow direct execution of scripts from the flash drive.

Good work on the plugin it has made fixing user errors a breeze. 🤠

I'd like to use a User Script path stored on the flash here Path To Custom Pre-start Script:

but, I must not be doing this right because when I put that "/bin/bash" right before the user script path, a note at the top says No Script is at that path, which seems to make sense since "/bin/bash boot/config/plugins/user.scripts/scripts/CA_US/script" is not a valid path. 🤔

    Hi Rix,

First, I hope you are ok and that you are safe. I has also been in the front line during the SARS-CoV-2 virus "outbreak", so I can relate to your situation.

Maybe another can help in Rix' absence?

My issue is I have 2 DVD-drives and 1 BluRay-drive and I am trying to rip my old DVD collection. I have trawled through this thread and saw I need to have a separate container for each drive. It works like a charm with only 1 drive but when I add another drive (and container) it doesn't seem to work for drive 2.

My settings are as follows (for my second drive):

    Name: Ripper1

    Extra Parameters: --device=/dev/sr1:/dev/sr0

    Optical Drive: /dev/sr1

    Output Dir: /mnt/user/rips/ripper1/

    Config Dir: /mnt/user/appdata/ripper1

I have tried to make sure that everything gets its own directory, but I still cannot get it to work.

Have I made an error somewhere?

    /Alphahelix

Are the extra parameters correct? Did you try swapping the sr1 and sr0?

I need some help, my Plex docker is no longer working, when I try to open the webui from the plex docker it doesn't open and displays a ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED. I have uninstalled/installed the docker a few times now. But  am stuck on what is wrong. I am not familiar with the 'Run' command and where to execute it.

I know this is probably too late, but I think your issue was with the paths being read only. The paths passed to Plex must be Read/Write enabled.

Open Cloud Commander, click the settings cog button and at the top. Enable auth and set a username & password.

If your using a reverse proxy to access remotely, you can add auth to that instead if you want. several options like a htaccess file or Oauth2proxy

Thank you so much! I don't know why I didn't notice that when I looked at settings before...doh!😂

Thanks for this plugin! I shut down my array, identified things and realized my soon to be parity drives are occupying bay 1 and 4 instead of 1 and 2 lol. Just a suggestion, if you were to put this repo on github I wonder if others would collaborate or fork to make their own improvements on this great app then merge them back in for a better experience?

I believe this plugin is abandoned. You should check out the disk location plugin available in community apps.

Have been using this for a few weeks but a couple of issues with it.

    1) I dont seem to be able to CTRL + SHIFT Select items, for exmaple if I have 100 items, I have to CTRL and Click each item.

    2) The WEB UI is very small and does not resize (even with auto scale) meaning I only see a few rows of each section at a time, is there anyway to change any of this?

If you select the first item, then hold shift and select the last item, it will select them all.

Did you adjust the height of the window in the docker settings?

ok, figured a solution for me, just in case someone else needs an tip

1st, make a backup of your vdisk file ... just in case ;)

in windows 10 (1703+) there a new tool added, mbr2gpt

so, i used powershell in admin mode

    mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS  <-- if ok then

    mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowFullOS

now your win10 VM disk is prepared for EFI boot,.shut the VM down.

create a new win10 VM with your same settings (exept use OVMF instead seabios), pointing to your existing and edited vdisk1.img (or whatever name it has).

That was it ... enjoy ;)

when all is good your can remove your backup from your vdisk ..

Thanks for this information. Helped out a lot.

Hi All. I'm struggling to get good performance. I noticed micro stuttering with mouse in Windows, doing circles it stops for half a second. Same when watching something in Chrome, video stops for half second. CPU utilization seems low. Below all settings. It is driving me crazy, even tried to enable/disable Hyper-V.

Do I need to add another directory shares assessable to the nextcloud external shares plugin?  If so how do I do this. Forgive my ignorance.

I'm not sure about the external shares plugin. I just created a Share exclusively for NextCloud and edited Host Path 2 under the docker to point to that share.

Are you able to share at least the one directory?

I've setup mariadb, letsencrypt and nextcloud using the following guide: https://techcoreduo.com/2018/04/28/how-to-install-nextcloud-on-unraid/

Nextcloud runs and I am able to access it outside of my local network. However, I want to add some of my unraid shares to nextcloud so I can share files easily with folks outside my home. When I try to use the external storages plugin to do so it doens't seem to be working. See below:

    Any idea why?

Check with your ISP to make sure you have port 80 opened, some ISPs block that port by default and you have to request to have it opened.

Why would you do that? There is a setup guide in the first post of this thread, specifically for this docker.

I didn't realize the letsencrypt tutorial was included. It states that letsencrypt is a prereq, so that made me think I needed to have that configured first, so I skipped the tutorial. ?‍♀️ (not sure why they only have girl emoji for this)

Should've kept reading, but either way the tutorial I followed included the DNS setup as well, so I think it will be helpful to some people.
