  1. yeah I really don't want to do that. I just got new MOBO/CPU and with my luck I would shorten the whole thing out. What sucks is that the MB actually has two x16 slots but I had to use one for x4 SATA controller. I also have to be careful with video cards that have oversized fans/heatsinks as all the slots will be used and they won't fit. If I can't find cheap PCI card for a while I'll go the x16 with x1 adapter route. Are those made so that if I use low profile video card with the riser will it actually fit properly to a standard case?
  2. Thanks for the replies. I did see x1 cards but they are way too expensive considering I only want super basic card for desktop use. I saw some PCI cards with HDMI sold on ebay for $20-$30 so I set some alerts and hopefully I'll be able to snatch one in the future Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Graphics-Video-Card-PCI-GeForce-8400-GS-256mb-ddr3-HDMI-DVI-CRT-Desktop-/171911355463?hash=item2806b71c47&nma=true&si=ExPIdRv7lVqid2tyO%252BHe%252BSrWSQc%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  3. thanks, I am looking for something with HDMI so I can send sound too. It will probably be hard to find PCI card with HDMI that's not expensive. Might just go the x1 to x16 adapter route.
  4. Hello I am in the same boat. I am putting x16 video card in for OpenELEC VM and I would like to use second video card for Windows VM. However all I got left is one x1 PCI-E slot and one regular PCI slot. Can anyone confirm that using x1 to x16 adapters is supported by Unraid VMs? Is there any advantage of using the extender with the cable solutions over the riser card? Do I need to look for anything specific in a x16 card I would purchase in order to work in x1 slot? If I were to go the good old PCI route instead, does unraid VM support PCI video cards or do they have to be PCI-E? thanks!
  5. Hello I have the System Temp plugin installed and working. I would like to control a fan in my server closet via Tasker Android app (or Vera z-wave hub) based on the temperature. Is there any way I can obtain the current temperatures as reported by System Temp plugin via HTTP request? thanks
  6. Just an image I found on google and resized
  7. I will definitely look at some more stuff. As long as my CPU/MB support HVM/IOMMU I should be good to go? Are there any requirements on the video card itself? I am looking at possibly: XFX AMD Radeon HD 5450 1GB GDDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low-Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card HD545XZQH2;HD-545X-ZQH2 ASUS GeForce 210 1GB 64-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card, EN210 SILENT/DI/1GD3/V2(LP)
  8. The MB and CPU are taken from Lenovo TS140 server. It's a Xeon E3-1225 v3 CPU. I am currently running Windows 8 VM and I connect to it on my regular PC via RDC. It works but if you do anything like youtube video it's jerky. I wanted to confirm that with direct connection out of my video card in Unraid there will be zero lag and it will behave as a regular local machine would. thanks
  9. Hello I am excited to see support for OpenELEC in this new update. I am running OpenELEC on multiple stand-alone machines in my house. One of those is sitting literally right next to my Unraid server, connected to my A/V receiver via HDMI for watching movies on my projector. I was wondering if I could eliminate this PC by completely by running OpenELEC Kodi on my unraid. My question is - Let's say I purchase a dedicated PCI-E video card with HDMI, connected to my receiver and install the VM. Would I get the same performance through my projector as I would from a local machine? In other words, no remote desktop / VNC lag but direct performance since I would be going Video card -> HDMI -> Receiver -> HDMI -> Projector. Would I be able to pass audio to my receiver through HDMI like I am doing now? If I connect a wireless keyboard via USB to my Unraid will I be able to control Kodi with it? thanks!
  10. Hello This is my first attempt at VMs. I created VM with Windows 8.1 ISO file and Stable virtio-win iso from https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers#Direct_download When I remote to my VM the Windows installation starts but then it says I have disks to install to. Any idea why?
  11. Hello I have been running Unraid for many years now on the same machine and I started thinking about upgrading. My current machine is running Pentium D820, Intel motherboard and 5 data drives + Cache. 90% of the time it's being used as a NFS data source for Movies/TV Shows/Music for my many Kodi devices across the house, typically just one stream at a time. I installed Plex but the CPU just can't handle transcoding and it was constantly buffering. I also upgraded to version 6 couple weeks ago and was bummed that my CPU doesn't support any virtualization. I have been seeing some decent deals on Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FE2G79C/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3PALFXR2VVI3J&coliid=I1WWOX1ZNV4FJY - Intel Xeon E3-1225 v3 Quad Core Processor (8M Cache, 3.2 GHz) 84W I had few questions about the possible build: 1) Biggest question - should I be able to remove the motherboard and CPU and move them to my own case? I am using a Norco 3x5 drive bay and I plan on buying another one and I couldn't fit any of this into the Lenovo case. I am also using 750W PSU but Lenovo only comes with 280W. My understanding is that the power connector on the motherboard is not standard but you can still use standard PSU if you buy an adapter. So as long as I get the adapter should I be OK to use Lenovo MB/CPU with my case/PSU/hard drives? 2) In addition to what I am currently doing I would like to be able to use Plex to stream movies but mainly I want to be able to install Windows (XP or 7) as VM to run Blue Iris software 24/7 for my cameras. Is this something I should be able to do with this setup without any issues? 3) I assume this is a good Unraid CPU and it will completely blow my D820 away. However it does not come with Hyper threading, would this be anything I would notice with my planned usage or should I be fine? 4) If I can get this computer for low $300s is this still a better deal than buying MOBO/CPU/RAM on their own? It looks like Xeon CPU alone would be $200+ Many thanks
  12. Hi If I wanted to install Windows VM for Blue Iris do I need CPU with VT-x / VT-d support? thanks
  13. How many (HD) cameras do you have? What kind of HW for your Unraid? I am looking into upgrading my unraid from 5 to 6 and was excited about trying out zoneminder docker but I am reading terrible things online about zoneminder being extreme resource hog, doing very poorly with HD cameras (saving video to individual JPGs). Also that text message notifications don't work? thanks!
  14. That's great, thanks! For some reason I thought it's a paid upgrade
  15. Hello I am having hard time figuring out the license cost for upgrading from 5 to 6. I currently have 2-key Pro license for version 5. How much would it be to get the Plus edition of v6 ? Do I pay full price $89 x 2 for two keys or is there some discount for upgrading from v5? thanks
  16. thanks everyone, looks like -W it is. I was only looking at -w. I will give it a go once my new parity drive is completed.
  17. thanks It looks like it's -n -n = Do NOT perform preread and postread of entire disk that would allow SMART firmware to identify bad blocks.
  18. Hello I am replacing my 3TB parity drive with a 4TB parity drive. I pre-cleared the new drive, then stopped the array, changed my parity from 3TB disk to 4TB disk and left the old 3TB drive as unassigned. I restarted Unraid and it is currently rebuilding parity on the new drive. Once this is done can I simply stop the array, assign the old parity drive as new data drive and restart? Do I have to pre-clear it again or will it be automatically cleared as I add it to the array? thanks
  19. $59.99 at newegg for Norco SS-500 rack module. According to trackers this is the lowest price ever. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133030
  20. Newegg has Norco SS-500 on sale for $59.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133030
  21. OK I got the plugin working thanks to edits by dmacias and rolly24 Here is the final file that worked thanks! deluge.plg.txt
  22. . You didn't download the plugin correctly. Right click on this and click save as. Then copy to /boot/config/plugins https://github.com/archedraft/unRAID_5.0/raw/master/deluge.plg Thanks, Turns out I used the right file but I put it under \plugins instead of \config\plugins. After I put the file in the right location and ran the command it was doing bunch of stuff but I still don't have the Deluge option under Settings. here is the output: root@Unraid:~# installplg /boot/config/plugins/deluge.plg installing plugin: deluge file /tmp/plugin-prepare: successfully wrote INLINE file contents /bin/bash /tmp/plugin-prepare ... success file /boot/packages/boost-1.49.0-i486-3.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/boost-1.49.0-i486-3.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package boost-1.49.0-i486-3 (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/deluge-1.3.6-i486-1sl.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/deluge-1.3.6-i486-1sl.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package deluge-1.3.6-i486-1sl (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/gcc-4.7.1-i486-1.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/gcc-4.7.1-i486-1.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package gcc-4.7.1-i486-1 (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/gcc-g++-4.7.1-i486-1.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/gcc-g++-4.7.1-i486-1.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package gcc-g++-4.7.1-i486-1 (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/GeoIP-1.4.8-i486-1dj.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/GeoIP-1.4.8-i486-1dj.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package GeoIP-1.4.8-i486-1dj (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/libtorrent-rasterbar-0.16.15-i486-1alien.tgz: already exist s upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/libtorrent-rasterbar-0.16.15-i486-1ali en.tgz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package libtorrent-rasterbar-0.16.15-i486-1alien (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/Mako-0.7.2-i686-1sl.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/Mako-0.7.2-i686-1sl.txz ... +============================================================================== | Skipping package Mako-0.7.2-i686-1sl (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/openssl-1.0.1g-i486-1_slack14.0.txz: already exists upgradepkg --install-new /boot/packages/openssl-1.0.1g-i486-1_slack14.0.txz .. . +============================================================================== | Skipping package openssl-1.0.1g-i486-1_slack14.0 (already installed) +============================================================================== success file /boot/packages/pyOpenSSL-0.13-i486-1ponce.txz: downloading from http://pon ce.cc/slackware/slackware-14.0/packages/pyOpenSSL-0.13-i486-1ponce.txz ... 2014- 05-23 22:28:30 URL:http://ponce.cc/slackware/slackware-14.0/packages/pyOpenSSL-0 .13-i486-1ponce.txz [104684/104684] -> "/boot/packages/pyOpenSSL-0.13-i486-1ponc e.txz" [1] bad MD5, deleting
  23. Hello Wonder if anyone can help me. I am running Unraid 5.05. I have downloaded "deluge.plg" from provided link and placed it in \plugins folder on my flash drive. When I run the command "installplg /boot/config/plugins/deluge.plg" I get following error "Warning: simplexml_load_file(): I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/boot/config/plugins/deluge.plg" in /usr/local/sbin/installplg on line 13 xml parse error" and ideas ? It will not load when I reboot the server either
  24. OK, it probably had something to do with the plugins. I wiped off the whole flash drive and started with a clean install. This time instead of "Start" the button said "Clear", and sure enough it cleared the new drive and everything is up and runnig now.
  25. I would recommend preclearing the drive, using screen over telnet, or at the physical console. There is obviously an issue here, as what you describe was supposed to be fixed, but instead of beating your head against it, I'd just preclear the drive. What EXACTLY did you do to upgrade? Did you remove any and all addons? I suspect if you disable all third party stuff it will start working. I just replaced bzroot, bzimage and syslinux.cfg and then rebooted
