  1. As the tittle suggests really. Does anybody know of any add on to allow a wake on Lan packet to be sent. Like the wolcmd for windows.
  2. Is that just work as in it will just work as it should or it will work...but only just.
  3. Sorry if this is a bit of a special needs question. Can I run sata and IDE drives together at the same time with unraid? I found a couple of IDE drives I dindn't know I had and with the price of drives rising I thought I would use them for music storage. I don't know if it makes a difference but I am running an asus m4a78lt-m mother board which has both sata and an IDE port. Cheers Sam Mod Note: Corrected a type in the title to read 'SATA and IDE' - Raj
  4. Just an update. My Unraid isn't finished yet, still have a few important parts to be delivered but I did test the functionality of every thing. As it stands now (spread all over the living room=wife not happy) a press of the watch a movie button on my remote initiates a macro that boots all the equipment needed to watch a movie. I have a little bit of tweaking to get all the timings right but it looks like its good to install all the kit in the cinema room's rack. Ill post pics/vid when all's done.
  5. I took the plunge and ordered one. Solves the WOL issue. Hopefully everything will works as expected, but it's never quite that simple. I have a Nevo S70 which can run macros. The plan is to run the following on the "watch a movie" icon:- Load "system loading, please wait..." page on the screen of the remote Send "power on" to the IRTrans to start booting the DF Base. Send "power on" to PCS-2 (using custom IR code) to start loading the UnraidSend "power on" to the receiver. That will turn on the projector using the 12v trigger on the amp which in turn will lower the projector. screen. Delay 60 secs Send "Refresh Media Library" to DF base. Well thats the plan anyway. Thanks for heads up on the PCS-2, never knew it existed.
  6. looks interesting. How does that work then? have you used it before?
  7. Unfortunately not. I asked the manufacturer and it is a case of 1 ir command and 1 mac address per unit. If it was cheaper I would just have 2, one for the base and one for the unraid. And if I can't find a way of getting around it, that's what will end up happening. Would highly recommend it though.
  8. Sorry it is a Digital Future Solutions Base media server. It does wake on LAN. I have it waking using WOL from my irtrans unit (the device that converters an ir command to wol packet) and sleeping using ip control supplied by the manufacturer. I was thinking that if I use the irtrans to wake the unraid and the unraid to wake the base it would save me around £160 by not buying another irtrans.
  9. Can an unraid server send a wake on LAN packet when it boots from sleep? So it will boot my media player when coming out of sleep. I tried and tried to get my media play to do it but it can't be done. The media player will never be used without the unraid and vice versa. I have a device that converts ir signals to a WOL packet but it was tres expensive so would like to try do it without having to buy another one. Any ideas?
  10. Cheers. As it happens, I was going to use that card if it was an onboard realtek. Just out of interest how did you find out where is says about the NIC? I cant seem to see it on the manufacturers page.
  11. I cant see any incompatibilities but does anybody know if this will work? It ticks all my boxes, low power consumption, built in CPU so no messing around to get it in the case , 6x sata ports and mini itx form. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/zotac-m880gitx-a-e-amd-880g-amd-turion-ii-neo-k625-pci-e-(x1)-ddr3-800-sata-6gb-s-raid-mitx I have search and searched but can't find out what NIC it has onboard. Does anybody know what it is? Also does anybody know if the PCIe is only for graphics or can it be used for an external NIC if needed?
  12. can anybody recommend a mini ITX mobo here in the uk? I need 6 onboard SATA ports without needing an external NIC. Trying to keep cost down, all the ones I have found so far seem to have the Realtek RTL8111E which as i understand is not compatible with Unraid?
  13. My bad. The media player is a DF solutions and the model is a "Base". I have trawled google looking to see if there is an answer but with no luck. I would ask the manufacturer directly but I have had to contact them A LOT over the past few months and I feel like I am being a pain in the rear. If I cant find an answer I will have to ask them but I would rather not bother them again.
  14. Hi, I am a little way into my first Unraid (building it as the parts arrive). As a way to save a few £'s off the electricity bill I am wanting to utilize S3 sleep and WOL on the Unraid. To boot the media player I have a nifty bit of kit that will allow me to use a IR signal from my remote and convert it into a WOL packet. In the media player there is a option in the menus for pre-run commands. Which will run before the system is booted. I was wandering if I could use this to generate a WOL packet? How would I write the WOL script? The IR-WOL automatically sorts this out for me when waking the DF Base. Any Ideas?
  15. Awesome. Ill get everything else ordered up in the morning. Thanks again for the help. It's really helped.
  16. I have found an ASUS M4A78LT-M and and sempron 140 at a small outlet near me. Like what's in your prototype builds. Would that work with the rest of my spec?
  17. It's the mobo that I am really struggling with. The rest of it, if I have my sources are correct, is pretty generic. From what I can gather if I choose the correct board with enough sata ports I can do away with one of the controller cards, thus only needing 1 pcie x4 (or higher). I got one of the boffins at work to help me out and he said that he would use a Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 with an I3 processor but that would be using a raid controller so to check with you guys to see if there are any compatibility issues. I would be running it with a intel LAN card not the on board one. Is this one any better than the ones I previously chose? I said I am a newbie and I ain't lying. Thanks for your help.
  18. I'm currently searching Uk based shops for an updated spec. Should (hopefully) have it sorted tonight.
  19. Right think I've got it. Would some a Gigabyte GA-H67M-D2 Socket 1155 Motherboard do the trick? Number of PCI Express Slots 4 slot(s) PCI Express X16 Slots 1 x PCI Express x16 (x16), 1 x PCI Express x16 (x4) PCI Express Slot Type 2 x PCI Express x1 (Taken from the manufacturers data sheet.) Coupled with an intel i3 and kingston 2gb ram. If this board will work would the rest of the spec be compatible? And more importantly will it reliable?
  20. What about this bundle? http://www.cclonline.com/product/8226/MBB0003/Motherboard-Bundles/CCL-Gem-Conquest-Motherboard-Bundle-/MBB0003/ The motherboard has 3 pci-express x1 slots according to buyer. Will this work? What about the rest of the spec?
  21. Hey, I'm looking into building my first server (in fact i have never built a PC either so this should be fun). My basic brief is to have a very quiet, power efficient server that can be shut down and turned on to further save power. I am initially going to have 4 drives (3 storage, 1 parity) but i am going to be expanding with one drive per month (as money becomes available) up to a maximum of 14 drives. Here is my spec i have come up with, can someone please check to make sure every thing will work as i hope:- Case - Fractal Design Define XL Black. Chosen for 2 reasons. Firstly for the 14 bays in a good looking design, I dont like the look of most huge towers. Secondly because of the installed sound proofing. Mobo/CPU/Ram - I found this in my local computer shop. I figured that with it being pre-built it has taken some of the guess work out of it. Will this work? http://www.cclonline.com/product/27817/NoMfgCode/Motherboard-Bundles/CCL-Ace-Pronto-Motherboard-Bundle/MBB-AMD-MID/ HDD's - I have been told by one of the IT staff at work that 2TB Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4EG are good but he could give me a reason why. Any way I found them realatively cheap so 4 of these in my initial build. PSU - I was thinking about a Coolermaster Elite CM-RS500-PSAPJ3-IT 500W but its only 70% efficient, can any one recommend a better one of will this be OK? Controller Cards - using 2 Supermicro aoc-saslp-mv8. I was taking to a guy who said that he is running 2 of these and he didn't have a problem with them. He added that he doesn't shut his server down so he couldn't comment on wether they behave well when woken up. Unraid License - Pro because of the continuous expansion. So there it is my proposed spec. Please can you take a look and give me the nod of approval or recommend any spec changes? My budget is pretty tight (baby on the way) so i can't spend thousands on this but I am willing to up the budget for important upgrades. Thanks in advance, I cant wait to get started.
