  1. Hi, John/Marcus I just wanted to thank you for the help provided. Now I now the 2 options I have. Rgds.
  2. Hi, in my actual setup I only get 30MB/s copy speeds from my desktop to unraid. I have read in the forum some members (like John: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12822.0) achieving up to 90MB. This is what I want to achieve. But I am still confused, since I am not sure where does John get his actual performance in comparison to mine. We both have gigabit lan. He is using: - 3Gbs SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 - 6gbs IBM M1015 (LSI 9220-8i) - norco 4224 with 6gbs backplane I do not run a cache drive. Maybe is this the reason? Another doubt is if I can plug in my actual setup (in my pci express single slot) a sas expander (Intel® RAID Expander Card RES2SV240) which would provide me up to 24 ports, but without having any raid card installed and therefore connected to the sas expander. Will it work? I only need to clarify this to decide which way to go. Thx for help.
  3. Hi, I am not an expert IT guy, but i am planning setting up a new storage case for my unraid 4.7 only used as media center. Actually I have the following setup: asus e35m1-I deluxe (integrated dual core amd zacate 18w+6 sataIII), 1 adaptec 1430sa (sata only), and 8 HDDs (all 2TB Seagate 3,5" 7200rpm). I want a new case with up to 20 HDDs, either norco 4220 or x-case rm420. option 1) mantain my MB and buy the following: - 1 cheap raid card (LSI Internal SATA/SAS 9211-8i 6Gb/s PCI-Express 2.0)+ - expander (I think Intel SAS expander RES2SV240 would work since I can power it using the 4-pin header instead the pci express) My MB has only 1 pci express port, I think this option would save me some money (i would re-use my actual hardware). option 2) buy new: X9SCM-F (4 sata II+2sata III) + core i3 + (2)AOC-SAS2LP-MV8>16 sataIII (I will not need the raid function of a raid card at the moment). My doubts: What is the cheapest option? Option 1): Will the described items work? Or which card+expander could you recommend? What are the pro´s of having an core i3 running unraid in option 2? Will option 2 run without issues: I mean the 2 AOC´s together with the x9scm-f? I think both case options do have a 6gbs backplane, therefore in what situation will I benefit from using SAS2L cards instead of SASL (only 3gbs)? Is it really worth for my unraid build purpose or can I go just with sata 3gbps? Maybe running 1 ssd for caching is the reason for having some 6gps ports? Rgds.
  4. Hi John, i will build a copy of your´s Goliath. I run Unraid too and the main use is Media Hosting. I have a couple of questions it would be great you could answer. 0) how do you monitor disk temps + fans? 1) i can see in your pics the (2) Supermicro 8-Port SAS/SATA Card (AOC-SAS2LP-MV8). I am a newbie, so i am trying to understand your setup. You don´t use any of the MB ports, you only use the ports of the 2 Supermicro 8-Port SAS/SATA Card, each providing 8 ports, so you have 16 hdds attached to them. You also have (1) IBM ServeRAID M1015 LSI9220-8i 46M0861, where you have attached the remaining 8 HDDs to sum up the total 24 HDDs. Is this right (because I cannot see in the pics the IBM M1015)? 2) 3) what is the reason for 1 IBM M1015 and not for another Supermicro 8-Port SAS/SATA (3 in total instead of 2)? 3) regarding IBM ServeRAID M1015, when you say :"1 x IBM M1015 (LSI 9220-8i) Flashed with IT firmware $75 off Ebay" what do you mean with flashed with IT firmware. I searched ebay and found: "You have to specify in your notes how you want to get the controller: - programmed with the latest available LSI 9240-8i firmware; - cross-flashed with the latest available LSI "IT" firmware (for LSI 9210-8i)" What is the difference between both options? Which way should I go? Rgds.
  5. Sorry but i am new to linux...does the 30% Read Performance Improvement Tweak still work in version 4.7? I guess yes, but only to try increasing buffer to 2048, right? Let me know where in "unmenu" can i do this and how should i proceed. There is a script but i don´t find any guide how to proceed. Also, where can i find my "go script"? Thx. Rgds.
  6. Hi, i am running unraid 4.7 with no issues. Attached are 7 sataII hdd (6 for data + 1 parity). When i transfer files from my pc (attached with 1 ssd sataII) to my unraid NAS i get write speeds up to 33-35MB/s, is it normal? Can i improve those write speeds? What is maximum values i should get? How can i monitor read speeds (when i read a file from my unraid NAS)? Rgds.
  7. sorry, my mistake, the drive is not precleared yet. it has been added just to copy files to the array using MC. can i browse it from windows?
  8. Is there a way to browse the files in this disk. It does not show up in windows explorer-network. Rgds
  9. Hi, I missed AF was specific for AF hdd´s. I have done preclear on all my disks, and none are AF specific. Will I have any problem? Rgds
  10. ok, so now what should I do. i guess i should do the preclear again, right?
  11. Hi, I just finished preclearing my hdd. I attach the syslog. I just want to make sure it is ok, since I am a newbie and there is a lot of info in the syslog. Is there any particular value I should always check after preclearing to confirm it worked ok? Rgds. preclear_results.txt
  12. Hi, i am trying to "Copying Files From an Internal or External Hard Drive" according to unRAID Tutorial (http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Configuration_Tutorial#Copying_Files_From_an_Internal_or_External_Hard_Drive), but I cannot make this command work: fdisk -l|grep NTFS I am using putty, and i get the following message: "fdisk:invalid option --1" Can anyone help me? I can see the disk in Unmenu: Drive Partitions - Not In Protected Array Device Model/Serial Mounted File System Temp Size Used %Used Free /dev/sda ST32000542AS_9XW070JL 28°C 2.00T /dev/sda1 ST32000542AS_9XW070JL ntfs 28°C
  13. Hi, i just want to check that installing one Adaptec 1430SA in my system will work (i guess it does since Peter achieved it). My question is, what are the steps I need to follow to install the new card? Is there anything in particular I need to take into account? Or I just switch the unraid server down, install the card, put some disks on it, and switch the system back on?
  14. Hi, I am new here, and i am trying to set up my 1st UNRAID. I come from windows and I am stuck here: I want to preclear all my disks, but I get te he message "Clearing will not be performed". I am not sure if it has to do with not having my disks containing a valid partition table. Anyone can help, pls? I attach screenshot and syslog.. 15. thx. i also found this usefull link. i guess a catastrophic disk failure will mean in any case the disk is gone. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2213
  16. Hi, I just want to make sure how UNRAID works in the following scenario. Now I am running 6 hdd as single hard drives conected to the sata ports of my MB. In the following scenario: I am using UNRAID and I have set up an array with my 6hdd + 1parity (all 2TB hdd...and 1 of my 6 disks fail, as happened to me last week... would still UNRAID let me recover all the data from that disk? The disk that failed in my actual setup is not even recognized by windows Disk Mgmnt, neither by DOS using for example Acronis. I guess UNRAID will not be able too to recover the data in the disk. So, when I read in LimeTech "Tolerates a single failed hard drive. Array parity permits reconstruction of a single failed data disk." .. what kind of disk failures are not covered? Rgds.
  17. Hi, i would like to ask if I can set up an array using UNRAID in one MB, and later on change just the MB but still keep using the same UNRAID array. Since UNRAID will boot from the usb, I guess this is posible. I would only need to set up bios of the new MB in the same way as the first MB, "boot from usb" and "ahci". Am i wright? Rgds.
