  1. If you don't understand the context don't comment! 😄
  2. You clearly have no understanding of my setup and, most importantly, the cost saving of having a 2-in-1 rig vs two separate whole rigs. So NM!
  3. EaseUs Todo backup is the answer. Tested it and it works great.
  4. No I do not. seems I've been away in Wakanda with no tech and no internet.😉
  5. Meant to backup, like how the VM Backup plugin does.
  6. Hi, Short of using cloning softwares, is there a way to clone, say a nvme drive, passed through whole to a VM since it's not an image file?
  7. +1 Did the same as @-Daedalus; found creating the config afresh is better than copying the xml file. However, there seems to be an issue with the computer name: it'll be the same for both in a Domain Controller use case. Using my QNAP NAS as a DC for some tests. Changed the clone's name which reflected the same under Computers in the DC. Stopped this VM and turned on the original VM and the computer name reverted back to this original's one. The Computer name remained as that of the original VM with both VMs on. Not a major issue though. Perhaps clone and change the names before joining either to the DC?🤔
  8. Hi. Did you ever get this to work? I tried the same setup but with a monitor with a USB hub. Using the plugin I successfully hotplugged an external drive and it functions just as it would while connected directly to the onboard ports. Keyboard and mouse are also connected to the monitor hub...all working perfectly!
  9. The SSH guide that @weirdcraphas mentioned has go to do with logging into QNAP via SSH. You don't need that. I have a similar setup as @huntjules where I required VM Backups folder copied over to my QNAP. At first was a bit of a hustle but realized it was my own "thinking-too-technical" brain misleading me-there really isn't much setup to do. Simply setup Rsync in HSB 3 using the "Active Sync Job" mode, this has the QNAP pull the files FROM Unraid, the other two options will send TO Unraid. Select 'Remote Rsync Server' and fill in the details. Username and Password are your Unraid login credentials and remember to check 'Use encryption port' which is 22. Test the connection then proceed on to select your folders/directories while completing the rest of the setup. That's all😊 A heads-up: the sync process may take a while depending on the size of the source file. Seems QNAP will 'cache', like how Download manager does when downloading, and it'll seem like the sync process is stuck. Be patient. All the best
  10. Came across the VM backup plugin, doing tests with it n so far me likes it. As for restoration I'd rather go the second option-it's far less technical than the script way. I feel the script is better for batch restores.

    2 User Rig

I settled on Intel due to the Quick Sync feature that's an added advantage for video editing software, especially Adobe Premiere. That Fractal case is nowhere near my price point for a case, at $234.99 is waaaaay to much for my use case. The case i need just has to hold 3HDDs and some SSDs, that's all. High storage requirements is not needed. The USB hub also will not be necessary. I'm using screens with USB hubs and so will be passing whole USB controllers to each VW and use a type A to type B long (quality) cable. External hubs don't function well with a certain plugin (usbipd) that I'll be using. As for motherboard, so long as it can hold and run two GPUs and is sufficient.
  12. @ASap curious as to how u intened/plan to assign the cores to unraid, plex and the VMs.
  13. Seems like it. What are you using ur rig for?
  14. Hi all, I need help on sorting out my confusion on the two platforms. I want to build a 2 user rig running two Windows VMs for creative works i.e 3D/2D designs, graphic design, photo and video editing and some moderate rendering. I do not intend to run any dockers, the rig is PURELY FOR CREATIVES. I have the GPU figured out; RTX 3070 /3060 (depending of budget) and GTX 1660. I initially had been settled on the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x but then came the new Intel 12th and 13th Gen processors. Been doing research on which is best which leaves me even the more confused. I ask pretty please if anyone could suggest which platform would be best and reasons why. I'm eyeing the i5 12600k for intel or AMD R9 5900x or R7 5800x-i've picked these due to budget limits. Also suggest the best motherboard for each. Thanks in advance, I'll very much appreciate.😊

    2 User Rig

Hi, I intend to build a 2 user rig with these parts; https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y4wQ2m. Intended purpose of the rig is solely productivity works i.e. 3D & 2D design works, video and photo editing. A brief breakdown: The Crucial 500Gb SSD for cache The two Crucial 250Gb NVMes for two Windows VMs The two HDDs are obviously for the array, the 7200rpm 8Tb parity and the 5400rm 4tb for data I'd like to hear the communities' thoughts and also between Intel's 12th Gen CPUs with the performance and efficiency cores vs AMD 5000 series, which would be best when it comes to the thread mapping for VMs and dockers. Thanks.
  16. Hi y'all, Been a minute. Recently got a solution to this: NAS; both QNAP and Synology have the DC feature (albeit basic) but it's exactly what I need. Got a QNAP NAS and did tests with its DC and it proved to be efficient sooo that's that🙂
  17. I don't intend on doing any render farm as you put it. Mine is a 2 to 3 user in one PC, that's it.
  18. Haven't even started; with this microchip shortage causing PC parts to have ridiculous prices I'm still waiting. Hope things get better.
  19. Neat😉 Though i don't get why the firefox docker🤔
  20. Is there an alternative to Windows Server that is free?
