  1. Hi there, after upgrading my HDD I really fall in love with Unraid. Everything works fine, I can game on my machine, have a Windows Server 2016 running, have pfSense running and a CloudServer based on Ubuntu with Nextcloud. Really great. But now my wife wants also to game on my server because her Macbook pro is not good enough for gaming. So I am running out of cores I like to upgrade my motherboard and CPU to have more Cores then my i7 6700K has. So I think a Xeon CPU would be fine. Before upgrading I thought I ask you for goof motherboards and CPU for 2 Gaming VMs, pfSense and a Nextcloud Server. The following hardware do I use: 1) 4 x 16 GB DDR4 Ram 2) 3ware 9750-9i 3) Intel Quad NIC 1000 And for Gaming: 1 x 1080 GeForce 1 x AMD Vega 64 SO what I need is a new CPU and Motherboard and a good IOMMU grouping So what do you prefer for this? Thanks Benny
  2. At the moment the ID of the 3ware attached disk have the controller name in it. So when I change the controller the ID of the disk will also change. Could this cause any problems? Or other things to be aware of? Thanks Benny
  3. Hi, now that I have used Unraid several days I realized that I have to upgrade my system and optimize the use cases for some of my hdd/ssd. So what do I have at the moment: 3ware 9750-4i with 4 x 2 TB HDD 1 x 2 TB parity drive 1 x Nvme 2 TB SSD for Cache I have some hardware left here in my office which I want to install in my Unraid Server. After that it should look like this: 3ware 9750-8i with 8 x 2 TB HDD 2 x 3 TB HDD for parity 2 x 1 TB SSD for Cache 1 x 2 TB Nvme for my vdisk of my Gaming VM So I have seen the wiki article of how to change the cache drive. So yesterday I have turned of all my VM and Dockers, switched all shares which had "Cache prefer" or "Cache only" to "Cache yes" and started the mover. It worked all the night now I have all of my Data an the Data Disk in the Array and the Cache Drive empty. So no I will install the other two cache drives and add them to the array as cache drive and unassign the current cache drive. After that I swtich the shares to cache prefer. But how will the change of the Raid Controller work? Can I just replace the 9750-4i with the 9750-8i and add the addtional disk to it. The current parity drive is not attached to the controller. What is the best practice for this? Thanks Benny
  4. Just updated and everything works fine! I like the "new" look of the Unraid WebGui! One question about the new virtio drivers: Everything work fine with the old ones, so do I need to update them? If yes, which components must be updated with the new drivers? Thanks Benny
  5. Thanks for this great answers. That will help me a lot.
  6. Oh you are right - there are no temps on the main page. So can I turn this feature off for the disks attached to the controller? Thanks
  7. Hi there, after setting up my new Unraid Server I get this error in the log every 30 minutes or so: Sep 18 11:24:01 Tower kernel: 3w-sas: scsi1: ERROR: (0x03:0x0101): Invalid command opcode:opcode=0x4D. Any idea what this means. As far as I can see it is something with my 3ware raid controller. But I have no idea what this means. Thanks Benny
  8. Yes these disks are right now in my Synology NAS which I want to replace with my Unraid server. So if nothing is copied automatically which is the best way to achieve my goal? Can I just copy the vdisk to the unassigned nvme SSD and change teh settings in the VM settings?
  9. Hi there, a few days ago I bought Unraid to achieve a few things: 1) Gaming VM 2) TimeMachine Backup for my wife 3) NAS for me 4) pfSense Firewall and Router 5) Windows Server 2016 for my office After settings all things up I realized that I will change some of my hard drives and add some new hard drives. So at the moment I have these settings: 4 x 2 TB for Array 1 x 2 TB for Parity 1 x 2 TB NVME SSD for Cache after my change it should look like this: 8 x 2 TB for Array 2 x 3 TB for Parity 2 x 1 TB for Cache (Raid 1) 1 x 2 TB NVME SSD not Assigned for Windows 10 Gaming VM Right now the the VM are set to vdisk location auto. So my question is: If I add the additional disk to the array and change the cache drive. Will all data be copied automatically from the old cache drive to the new one? Or how do it work? If I want the vdisk from the Windows 10 Gaming VM change from auto to the unassigned nvme SSD how do that work? Thanks for your help! Benny
