Possibly because there is no profit in it and joe public doesnt give $0.02 about gpu passthrough and virtualisation. All about trying to compete with nvidia for the "faster than yours" gpu crown. If only AMD could do for the gpu division the excellent work they have done for CPUs

Thanks @binhex @trurl turned out issue was caused because I was trying to get this working remotely on an ipad while vpn in to my server. From the lan it works fine and I can see the /media folder.

Thanks @manfat I can now get in to plex However I cannot see any of my movies. I have a share media and under that is movies folder. However plex is refusing to see it. When I go into plex and click MORE>your media - I just get the link to download plex media server Must be something simple like format of the movies folder or something but be buggered if I can find out what it is

Trying to get binhex plex working. When I go to webgui I get "Plex is not reachable". The log for plex gives an error Error in command line:the argument for option "--serveruuid" should follow immediately after the equal sign What am I missing please?

I feel your pain, I have had many VMs fail mainly of the Windows 7 and XP variety but there have been some win 10 ones also. I stick to Windows 10 now Here's the thing, because of Nvidia not wanting to allow virtualisation on their consumer gpus you are pretty limited in your selection of a type 1 hypervisor. I tried proxmox but after wading through a huge tutorial I am back to unraid. Vmware is out because of the nvidia issue. AMD cards still suffers from the GPU reset bug Unraid is the easiest to get working and as others have said you can make it as complicated or simple as you want to. Im sure things like snapshots are coming, these can already be done on linux vms with btrfs but it would be great to be able to right click a vm and choose snapshot - like you can in vmware workstation

So Im now a member of the TR club It works great aside from the ram, which I cant get to go above 2933mhz Mobo is asrock x399 taichi, ram is g.skill trident z 3200 mhz cl14 4 x 16gb Does anyone have any tips on how to get this to work at 3200mhz? Cheers

Saving up for a 2950x now...just pulled the plug on some g.skill trident z 64gb cl14 4 x 16gb. Once you have it installed I'd be interested in any tips you have for getting the most out of it @jordanmw Go AMD!

Hi guys I have been reading up on what kind of memory to get for the 2950x and some people say get g.skill flare x cl14, others say it doesnt matter, others say get g.skill trident z cl16. For those that have a threadripper which memory did you buy? Thanks

@bastl do you see much performance increase from using the scsi driver rather than sata for the vdisk?

Bought this one and will report back on whether it works or not. I believe it has one controller so should work. Had good luck with that brand in the past Update: yay it worked front usb 3 ports available now

Has anyone managed to get the front USB ports connected to a USB card? If so which model usb card did you use? Were there any additional steps i.e. bios changes? It would be great to have the front usb ports wired up and available as hot swaps in a vm I guess the process is buy a USB card which has a usb header on it and connect the front ports to that, but I havent a clue which one will work and Im sure this has been done by others. I know @jonp mentioned it in his recent video

Brilliant, thats the kind of response I was after thanks @bastl I have been looking at the specs 1950x vs 2950x and there doesnt seem to be much between them. The 2950x is higher clocked and has improved infinity fabric I believe but probably not worth the extra £300. Might see if I can find a 1950x on ebay

It would help to know: 1. Do you have more than one GPU in your system 2. What model GPU If you have only one GPU then you will need to dump the bios in order to pass it through. Spaceinvader has done an excellent video on this If you have more than one GPU, then passing through AMD cards may cause issues. Certainly I have not been able to pass through a RX480 consistently. Worked just fine with Nvidia cards
