[Support] Linuxserver.io - NZBGet
In my haste I couldn't see the difference between cache:yes and prefer. I do now! I got a shiny new 4TB red for my cache and was just eager to get it going! I ran out of bays on my server a few years ago so had to use an external usb for a make shift cache and now im appreciating all the nice perks again. I don't see an overflow to my raid happening but i have it set to prefer. Thanks for the info Trurl, very good to know!

Hi trurl, thanks alot for taking the time to reply. I just edited my post to say the issue was resolved. It was indeed poor configuration on my part. I followed the recommendatons made in earlier post for my folder structure and it fixed my problem. I read on another forum that an error 10 on nzbget is related to directory structure. I know this is offtopic but I made an appdata share on my cache in the unraid UI for my app configs. Maybe this should have been made directly onto the cache (/mnt/cache/appdata)? Thanks for your feedback.

edit: Resolved. I noticed there was a subdirectory from nzb in my tv downloads folder and the whole download directory structure was a mess (despite being only 3 apps). After reading around the forum and discovering the best practice is to map apps to a common downloads location on the cache, I reinstalled nzbget and now the appdata folder for it only contains the conf. Downloads are being mapped to /mnt/cache/downloads. This resolved the extraction issues I was having! Very easy when it's simple. thanks Hi, I installed a cache drive on Unraid and did a fresh docker install with nzbget and sonarr from linuxserver. I changed the umask to 000 as stated in the first post but I haven't been able to download anything successfully yet on nzbget. Here are some of the error messages I am getting: error Wed Apr 26 2017 14:08:37 Unpack for Fargo.S03E01.The.Law.of.Vacant.Places.720p.FX.WEB-DL.AAC2.0.H.264-monkee-Obfuscated failed. error Wed Apr 26 2017 14:08:04 Could not delete temporary directory /mnt/user/appdata/Nzbget/downloads/tv/Fargo.S03E01.The.Law.of.Vacant.Places.720p.FX.WEB-DL.AAC2.0.H.264-monkee-Obfuscated/_unpack: No such file or directory error Wed Apr 26 2017 14:08:04 Unrar error code: 10 error Wed Apr 26 2017 14:08:04 Could not create directory /mnt/user/appdata/Nzbget/downloads/tv/Fargo.S03E01.The.Law.of.Vacant.Places.720p.FX.WEB-DL.AAC2.0.H.264-monkee-Obfuscated/_unpack: could not create directory /mnt/user: Permission denied I have tried over 15+ different files and each one had similar results. MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
Thanks for the reply. I had alot of trouble finding one that could be shipped to me. I ended up going with this http://www.amazon.co.uk/FSP-800VA-Off-line-Comprehensive-Protection/dp/B00ATO6WTA/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1378424457&sr=1-1&keywords=ups+fsp Would of much preferred a smart UPS but this will give me peace of mind. We dont have many powercuts but had a problem with some fuses lately.

Hope this isn't off-topic but can anyone recommend a good UPS for my N36L? I got 5 WD 2TB greens and a 500g scorpio cache. I only intend to have my server running off this. How would you rate this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/APC-BE700G-UK-Interface-Power-Saving-Back-UPS/dp/B002RXED6A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374789343&sr=8-1&keywords=APC+BE700G-UK thaks alot

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
Hey Guys, This probably has been asked in this thread before but I stopped reading when it was about 15 pages old as ye had me perfectly set up at that stage! I now have 6 drives in my microserver- i am using the nexus doubletwin in the optical bay with 3.5" attached and a 2.5" cache sitting under it. I have a 1.5tb, 3.5" external toshiba drive where the power cable has become very temperamental from loaning it out and I am thinking to take the disk out and make it my cache drive in place of the 2.5". The thing is i want to put it in one of the bays for cooling as its gonna be on 24/7 and i notice my drive in the optical bay is always 3-4 degress hotter than the rest. What do i have to do in order to achieve this? Is it just as simple as remove one of the lesser used drives from the bay and put it up top (connecting the sata from the old cache) and put the 3.5" new cache in its place? Thanks very much

cache_dirs - an attempt to keep directory entries in RAM to prevent disk spin-up
Im sure this has been answered before but is it possible to have cache dirs script start on startup, its the only thing i have to do manually at the moment. I love cache dirs! edit: Thanks Joe L

Hey Guys, I got a double twin recently and 2 more WD greens but I only have one of them installed at the top since I have 5x 2tb and a 500gb scorpio cache. Just wondering a few things... [*]Is 6 drives the max to use? I was hoping for 6x2tb and the 2.5" cache below the ODD bay [*]If I were to put another WD green in the doubletwin should I have it wedged into the enclosure for the ODD so the rubber grips would keep the bottom drive airborne or what is the recommended way to install them? I take it its not too good for heat and vibration to have a disk in contact with the base of the enclosure? [*]Would you recommend using my spare WD green as a cache ahead of the scorpio and making that into an external usb or I could add the 6th WD to the array and have the scorpio act as cache drive not in the array... running sab etc..? thanks very much

cache_dirs - an attempt to keep directory entries in RAM to prevent disk spin-up
This is a great script. Beforehand if I went to browse my movies on my HTPC it would spin up the drives even if I changed my mind and watched tv off another drive (even though the xmbc database was saved on the htpc). Now it is much better and doesnt have any negative effects on my setup. I take it its just the raid that is cached not the cache drive? I did use 'cache_dirs -w' to start and it spun up the drives without waiting. Great scripts to have though, thanks!

Yes I precleared each drive, it does take a long time (over 24hours in total for 3x2tb-which I did together, then the 500gb scorpio and the 250gb that came with it afterwards). It takes alot less to add them to the array afterwards and format them. I put 2gb of ECC ram into it too, I found it hard trying to unplug some of them cables from the motherboard at the beginning without doing some damage with my clumsy hands

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
I have my microserver up and running about a week now and I am very happy with it. I found this guide very useful and would of been lost without it -and the links from it. I got 3x 2tb WD greens for storage and also the WD 500gb Scorpio Neil recommended for the 'cache' download drive. I havent tinkered with that yet but the OS is reading it fine. I am gonna try sabnzbd from unmenu on it and use the code a few pages back to mount and unmount it as needs be. Its so cool that you can transfer onto the flash remotely. I delayed moving the server earlier on account of not knowing about this I got TP Powerlines for streaming and they are working great, I got one connected to an ole xbox on an older tv and a HTPC in the main room- both running xbmc.

Ah I do remember reading that thread now, I think I just discounted it since you went back to your previous setup. I actually enjoy working with linux - i have a little experience with it but I am certainly not proficient by any stretch. I am looking forward to improving my skills and knowledge from these forums and unraid. That post you linked helped me alot. When you said you made the usb drive a [cache] this was for the OS sake and unRaid wont see it as part of its raid setup? i understand when you say it's not a cache drive technically. I have a much clearer picture in my head now how the unRaid os works and how I would go about running the programs/scripts i might need to manually from the usb. Thank you for the link to the molex-sata, I ordered one just now with 1 sata port on the end instead.

Thanks very much Neil for your reply. Funnily enough the credit card company rang an hour ago to say that my amazon orders have been blocked for security reasons so I took your advice and went for a scorpio 5400rmp and cancelled my kingston ssd. Mounting the scorpio outside the raid and waiting on a plus licence until I get more harddrives/try it out would be perfect. I noticed you mentioned that before alright but you didnt go into any detail. Would this be difficult to do? Sorry to brign this up again but would I need to buy an additional power cable for scorpio (if i esata it to keep 2x future storage bays free)? Should i order 15CM Molex 4 Pins Male to Female SATA Power Cable? Delighted they extended the offer for another month at least. I was worried I had missed out there last week, such an amazing deal. Cheers for the advice
