  1. Hello all, I have a question. When I buy a server rack, let's say an HP Proliant DL360E or a Dell R620, can I then plug my harddisks from my unRAID array into it and run unRAID from a USB stick? So that I change the disks from my (now a full atx tower) current server and put them into one of those refurbished server racks and turn it on like a mobo swap..? Or does unRAID not comply with that kind of hardware?? I am very interested in buying a refurbished server and buy a new simple serverrack and to expand so to more disks. Is the above system compatible with the unRAID software?? Kind Regards, Rik PS. I hope that this threat is in the right category... If not, mods please move this one into the right category... Thanks!
  2. Thanks for all the info @Hoopster. I hoped that Plex was a free and easy solution, but if I need to pay, in my opinion only for GPU encoding, I need to let it pass. Also am I, with knowing this, not looking anymore for a upgrade. Then is my AMD A4-3300 sufficient enough for me. Again, thanks for the help! Kind regards, Rik
  3. The VM's are mostly for me to get in to different Linux operating systems. Mostly only webbrowsing and some lightweight software. I don't want to use the VM's extensively, because I have some i5 PCs for daily usage. I am going to research which 8c/16t CPUs are in the same price range as the CPU I mentioned in my first post. Al last, my maximum budget for this build is at 600 euros for new components. As said I would like to reuse my SATA card and PSU (if enough power). Edit: I thought that the 3600 would do the trick, but am I wrong? Or does the 3600 is okay but combined with a better GPU? And if so what GPU would be recommended...? Edit2 : Is GPU transcoding free with Plex Media Server (I use the most basic free edition and don't have the €€€ to upgrade.)?
  4. Sorry, I reacted way too fast with my (now deleted) message. I didn't understand enough of the terms you were referring to. My bad. So I will write a new message instead. First, thank you for taking time to reply. So if I use this build, am I be able to use Plex Media Server, via docker, to transcode max. 2-3 1080p streams? I only (can) play my files via Chromecast in 1080p. But is this build really sufficient enough to provide max. 2 VM's + 10 docker images and transcode to my max. 2 chromecasts at 1080p at the same time. Or is the CPU too weak for this work? Edit: I don't know how GPU or CPU transcoding works, I saw plex as a smart solution to my problems.
  5. Hello all, First of all, I do not know if this is the right forum-section for a UnRAID build questions, but: I am looking to make an new build for my unRAID server. My AMD A4-3300 APU is too slow for i.e. Plex transcoding, using VM's and multiple Docker apps. I have about 550 euro to spend, and I have from now some components that I can reuse. My tower is sufficient to reuse that case, it is a Sharkoon T9 Value Blue case and I would like to build the new one into that case. I also have a PSU and SATA extension card to reuse. PSU is a Corsair CX430M (https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supply-Units/cxm-series-config/p/CP-9020058-NA) and SATA extension card is a Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 (https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/accessories/addon/AOC-SAS2LP-MV8.php) My build list that I have now is as following (prices are in the Netherlands as we speak): CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (boxed) (€ 199,--) Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO (for an upgrade to newer cpu's in a serveral years maybe, a B550 chipset) (€ 94,--) GPU (as CPU doesn't have dedicated graphics): Powercolor Red Dragon Radeon RX 550 4GB GDDR5 (€ 92,--) DDR4 Memory: G.Skill Aegis F4-3000C16D-32GISB (€ 120,--). Grand Total of: € 505,-- I've picked a fairly cheap GPU just for video, I would like to leave everything to Plex Media Server, and they say there isn't a beefy GPU needed for transcoding up to 1080p. And some random DDR4 memory, because all the memory is fast, needed more, 32GB instead of 16GB for VM's and DOcker applications. Main question: Is this a futureproof (4 to 8 years) build? And if not, what should you recommend me?? Thank you very much. Greetings, Rik
  6. @bigzaj yeah your drive first needs to spin up to access the media you would play/convert/access. That takes a few seconds loading, and then your media will play fine... Spinning down is very useful, and the power consumption of the drives you don't directly use is almost none. You spin only the drive up that has that particular file on it.
  7. To change from PIA ovpn file and so from endpoint, I just uploaded Czech_Republic.ovpn and removed the Switzerland.ovpn from the openvpn folder at Deluge's appdata folder on Unraid. After uploading a new ovpn file (without renaming), I reboot my "Deluge-docker" and open the web-UI after full start of the docker. Full start will say, that the docker is completley done loading everything, and keep your eye at the log files. The docker is done "booting" when it says: 20xx-xx-xx xx:xx:19,xxx DEBG 'watchdog-script' stdout output: [debug] iptables chain policies are in place 20xx-xx-xx xx:xx:19,xxx DEBG 'watchdog-script' stdout output: [debug] VPN incoming port is xxxxx [debug] Deluge incoming port is xxxxx [debug] VPN IP is xx.xx.xx.x [debug] Deluge IP is xx.xx.xx.x
  8. The seeding problem is solved. I think the problem was the PIA endpoint, as I switched to endpoint Czech Republic, and I can seed for days without torrents not seen at trackers... My problem is now solved!
  9. Still nobody who knows why the private trackers doesn't see deluge seeding? Or can someone confirm that the issue lies at pia's endpoints? @darrenyorston maybe remove your vpn user and pass! I will try to seed again with the czech ovpn file.
  10. But for the nextgen servers there are also OVPN files. Aren't there no endpoints that work and have port-forwarding??
  11. Okay, thanks @xxDeadbolt. These ones don't work anymore, I conclude from your message? I just renewed a few weeks ago at PIA for two years, so I won't go for AirVPN as I cannot pay for 2 VPN's at the same time...
  12. Is there a list which endpoint do work and which don't work?? The weirdest is that Deluge says it is seeding all my torrents but not the trackers. (That is due to above reason?)
  13. Nobody who knows why the private trackers doesn't recognize my "active" torrents anymore... Same at binhex-rtorrentvpn, using PIA... After a full pause and resume, trackers does see them, but I need to repeat that 3 - 4 times a day... Not very friendly while seeding...
  14. Got a problem with both binhex-rtorrentvpn as well with binhex-delugevpn. There are some 60-ish torrents seeding on different private trackers, but after some time seeding, the tracker doesn't notice that the torrents are seeding. I've got this problem also with rtorrent, after a while the private tracker doesn't sees them as seeding, but they are stated at deluge as seeding 100.0%. How can I resolve this problem??? Kind Regards, Rik
  15. Scanning on viruses now. I saw that I installed windows optional feature "nfs server client", so just uninstalled. Just a question from my side but I don't know how to make a speedtest fron unraid to a Raspberry Pi. To test what the throughput speed is... Can someone please help me before buying all new cables and switches...
  16. Well the 192.168.2.177 is a win 10 laptop. so how the h*ll do I get nfs connections on Windows? I am really a newbie with that kind of connections. Am I infected on 177 windows 10, or what security issues are going on with win 10 and nfs connections....? I think I will buy two new switches and new lan cables. This because my pc on the same switch gets on 100 MBit now, but the server is still slow. Plus I don't know how to make a speedtest fron unraid to a Raspberry Pi. To test what the throughput speed is...
  17. Hi Frank, I don't know, I am here on WIn 10 on my laptop. I really don't know how to quit a NFS connection within any os, so I really don't know how to close those connections. I am going to get a look for some gigabit switches. My Pi is with speedtest at my normal speeds, 100 megabit/sec down and 25 megabit/sec up. When I do a speedtest from my tower, I'll get these speeds: Before I buy anything, is there a zero cost way to solve these speed. My PC next to the server, also on the same switch is getting also a upload speed of 0.4 Megabits/sec. Maybe renew cables, because here in an other room on Wi-Fi Windows 10 gives me an upload of 29 Megabits/sec, as normal with our bandwidth from our ISP... See: EDIT: Changed switch with same other 100 Mbps switch (König CMP-EHUB13) and the PC gives me now 28 Megabit/sec upload to speedtest. Server rebooted and getting:
  18. Hi @Frank1940, Those ip addresses belong to my gaming laptop that is online 24/7. But I don't know what is going on with those syslog entries. Can you explain me what I could do to prevent these entries? I have also docker with rtorrent and sabnzbd running, but with schedules so that when I want to stream this shouldn't slow my server down. Or could that be still so significantly slowing my server down? Besides a 1Gb switch is really needed? Because my server is in one room on a 5 ports netgear switch, and in the other side of the house my sleeping room has the same switch, I do need to buy 2 of them, not?
  19. Hello all, The latest week or two I have a big problem with streaming movies to my raspberry pi 2b. If I want to watch a 1080p x264 AVC movie, it plays with no problems for about 7 minutes and after that it only stutters and buffers continuesly. So I have installed the speedtest plugin on both sides. My rpi 2b on lan gets a downstream of 91 megabits a sec, and my tower gets 7.3 megabits down and 2.6 megabits up. They are both on a LAN cable and on a 100 megabit isp line. In my house I always use 100mbit cables, so I am speechless. What can I do to be possible to stream my movies again? I could stream a few months ago with the same setup.......... I hope someone can help me. Kind regards, Rik EDIT: I've already tried to play the movie and other 1080p movies on my 7th gen i5, GTX1050Ti, but they also stutter like hell. Hereby also the diagnostics. rik-tower-diagnostics-20200515-1053.zip
  20. Hello all, I have put a new SAS 8087 breakout cable in my second connector of the Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 card. It is an 8TB disk using for parity, connected to port 4 of the 8 from the Supermicro card. It shows up at port 4 of the list of devices while booting. So far so good. Now it won't boot any further than that screen and it hangs, showing in the most lower right corner B2. I've tried booting without the second 8087 breakout, and everything boots fine. So what can be the problem? It only hangs on booting while I have both 8087's connected... Can someone lend me a hand of support? Is it something in the cabling that is broken, is the new disk broken??? Kind Regards, and thanks in advance, Rik EDIT: Here ( @Squid says Disable INT13, did that and booting now!!
  21. I will be looking there. Thanks for pointing me on that @Hoopster!
  22. Do you have a link to such a thread. I think it is on the sub r/DataHoarder, ins't it? edit: Thanks for the wise words, @johnnie.black. I see on reddit too the SMR disks are not very suitable for NAS-usage...
  23. Is this worth shucking? A external HDD (Seagate Expansion Desktop (v2) 8TB) for 159.99 euros? Here in the Netherlands a internal 3.5 inch disk with the same capacity is at it's cheapest 179.99... And is the drive in the Seagate Expansion Desktop (v2) 8TB reliable?? Is it even possible to determine what drive is in it, or do the manufacturers put different drives in their external HDD's? Thanks and greetings, Rik
  24. Okay, so shucking and adding them to the existing array is completely safe. I hope so, because external drives are indeed cheaper than buying the internal drives of the same capacity.
  25. Hello All, I have a question, that I saw more here, but couldn't find a conclusive answer. Here in Holland, the 8TB external HDD's are cheaper than the cheapest 8TB 3.5" internal disks. So is it possible, and foremost, recommendable to order some 8TB external disks and remove their (original) cage, and put them in a 3.5" slot in my tower? Maybe a little question for you hardened unRAID guys, but for me it is a big unknown... Thanks for the support. Kind Greetings, Rik
