  1. I am looking for a multi-purpose server/rig for 1080p vid footage as well as possibly having it run unRAID (haven't thought about VM setup yet) BUT does anyone else recommend this server for what I described above? It will run Ubuntu 10.04.3 and unRAID and plenty of VM's with WIN7 and WIN8 (developers) in it, heck maybe if I feel frisky I throw OS X in it BUT I know that's illegal. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=22973347
  2. I will need to do this when my first unRAID is complete. Thanks for posting this Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  3. All u would do is change the setting in your rsync config so instead of it syncing data locally, it would sync remotely. The whole point is that your initial remote sync will only have to ensure the files are there versus doing all that data transfer remotely. Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  4. It all boils down to users and permissions. I'm at the bar and would live to help but I'm sure with some googling you'll get it. I recall seeing someone mention a permissions fixer built in but that might not be in your version. I'll be back on Monday, if u don't solve it by then Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  5. glad I could help! this community rocks as I saw others jump in! awesome
  6. just so happened to run into a guy who has some jacks for me, just not going to be drilling the holes into my walls YET. THanks guys! Slow build and plenty of prep to ensure this first unRAID is the best!
  7. Sounds like an install issue. You have your bios set to boot to the USB stick right? Depending how much time you've spent I'd just do a reinstall ensuring ALL hdd are plugged in before booting the stick and running unRAID. Someone who uses unRAID may be able to help as I'm still building my first server BUT 5+ years of Linux knowledge tells me a hdd wasn't where it is now (controller wise) when u first ran unRAID Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  8. thanks for squishing down my answer and making it easier to read. I wasn't sure whether unRAID boroughs up eth1 or not Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  9. bottom line I suppose u r right despite everything working like a dream in my 7 computer internal network I might as well re-terminate all the wires now before my unRAID server goes into the production environment Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  10. not sure about the security implications of doing that and even if there is even any. Hopefully some process doesn't change ownership back to something else again. Im new to unRAID but 5+ years of self Ubuntu has very knowledgable about many things I'm noticing in unRAID due to it running on the Linux kernel. Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  11. Cool, by any chance would you know if that works on OSX Darwin 8.8.2? running kernel 8.8.2? it's a seperate unrelated project of xbmc running on hacked apple tv 1. trying to ssh into my apple tv 1 which runs Darwin 8.8.2 and mount some NFS shares but I just am not familiar enough with OSX enough. I looked in the normal linux location for /etc/fstab to add my nfs mount info but that file isn't used by Darwin. Any help would be AWESOME!!!
  12. Not sure about Ubuntu but I am able to share my OS X (Lion) folders with spaces via NFS and my PCH can access it to play videos from it. Since Lion's SMB server only shares via the newer v2.0 SMB spec that the PCH's Linux based OS is not compatible with presently, Lion users must either switch to NFS or manually install the Sambe Suite that Apple removed from Lion. ok, could you please post your config file for exporting your NFS shares from Lion? would be icing on the cake as I have never been able to figure it out. My current exports file on my headless server and obviously there are no shares with spaces cause I can't get it to work /var/lib/mythtv 192.168.0.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,async,no_subtree_check) /media/500gb1 192.168.0.0/24(rw,no_root_squash,async,no_subtree_check)
  13. The root of the issue is who you're using to write the file from win7 to your unRAID server. Also possibly how u share out your unRAID shares. If your usernames aren't the same on your server and win7 boxes look into mapping users in your smb.conf file. Tapatalk is tha shizzle
  14. I am not sure if me soliciting members to sell me old hardware using paypal is acceptable. If it's not please remove this post. I have an older Asus P4P800-E Deluxe and I am currently collecting my older hardware which is strewn about my house to build my firs unRAID server. It will only be (3) 1TB hard drives, 1 TB parity. I can't seem to find the CPU I had bought originally with this board so I am in need of something. I know the Prescott CPU's got really hot with only a stock CPU fan so not sure if I want to go that route. I'd pay you thru paypal if that's acceptable
