  1. To be honest I dont think you will see any benefit. The fx 9370 yes is a bit faster but also runs at a TDP of 220w which is alot for slightly better performance.

If I was  you I would outlay new cpu ram and motherboard in one hit. If you dont see a need for the current cpus try and sell them on ebay to help fund your upgrade :)

If you can find one preflashed from a vendor with a good reputation, it can be well worth the extra cost to have it done.  I seem to recall that there have been issues from finding computers that can still be booted to DOS to 'bricking' the card from doing some little detail wrong. (I recall that most of the time you will be working with the command line.)  Before you decide to flash one yourself, find the directions (and software)  for the exact card you are considering purchasing and read through the procedure to see if it is something you will be comfortable doing.

That's my number one concern. I am comfortable with everything computer wise, except for flashing firmware.

  3. So here is a little inside shot of my new server

I have got the drives still inside of my old case and I measured from the edge of the motherboard to the front of the optical bays is about 21cm ish maybe 22cm.

Now to add to my shopping list is:

    1 or 2, 5 in 3 bays

    hba adaptor

extension cables for 24pin and 8pin cables

  4. Ok I am on my final decision pretty much for the moment and thats power supply.

Is the RM series of corsair any good ? They are single 12v+ rail and the 850w RMi has 70.8A on the 12v+ rail and seem to be a bit cheaper by about $40 to $60 here in Australia

  5. Ok update I have purchased a supermicro x9scl+-f and Xeon e3-1220 v2 and 32gb of Kingston ecc

What is a good cooler you guys can recommend for these boards apart from really the stock heat sink

Stock cooler is fine unless you have no airflow through the case. These newer intel chips run cool.

Ok no probs I wasn't sure if it was worthwhile purchasing an aftermarket low profile Noctua HSF
